AC/DC Sells 48,000 Digital Albums And 696,000 Songs In iTunes Debut - Nov. 29, 2012
According to Billboard.com, AC/DC's 25 albums — which became available digitally for the first time on Monday, November 19 — sold a combined 48,000 downloads and its songs shifted 696,000 in the U.S. in the week ending November 25.

AC/DC's top-selling album for the week was 1980's "Back In Black" with 15,000 — more than 10,000 ahead of its second-biggest title, 1979's "Highway to Hell" (a little under 5,000). Coming in third for the week was the brand new "Live At River Plate" (4,000), followed by 1976's "High Voltage" (just under 3,000) and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (2,000). The most downloaded song was "Thunderstruck" (85,000), followed by "Back in Black" (68,000), "You Shook Me All Night Long" (64,000), "Highway To Hell" (50,000) and "TNT" (40,000). 14 AC/DC songs sold at least 10,000 last week.

All tracks were mastered for iTunes, and fans have the ability to download full albums or simply purchase their favorite individual songs. Fans can also choose from two specially packaged digital compilations: "The Complete Collection", the complete iTunes-exclusive AC/DC catalog; and "The Collection", which includes all 16 studio albums.

The full catalog which has all been mastered for iTunes includes:

Collections:

* The Collection (all studio albums for $99.99)
* The Complete Collection (all studio albums, live albums and box sets for $149.99)

16 studio albums:

* High Voltage (1976)
* Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976)
* Let There Be Rock (1977)
* Powerage (1978)
* Highway To Hell (1979)
* Back In Black (1980)
* For Those About To Rock We Salute You (1981)
* Flick Of The Switch (1983)
* 74 Jailbreak (1984)
* Fly On The Wall (1985)
* Who Made Who (1986)
* Blow Up Your Video (1988)
* The Razors Edge (1990)
* Ballbreaker (1995)
* Stiff Upper Lip (2000)
* Black Ice (2008)

Four live albums:

* If You Want Blood You've Got It (1978)
* Live (1992)
* Live (2 Volume Collector's Edition) (1992)
* Live At River Plate (2012)

Three compilation albums:

* Bonfire (1997)
* Backtracks (2009)
* Iron Man 2 (2010)

AC/DC had previously rejected iTunes distribution in an attempt to preserve the concept of the album.

"Since iTunes came into existence, we've actually increased our back-catalog sales without being on the site. We were sternly warned by our management team and our record label that the complete opposite would be the case," guitarist Angus Young said in an interview.

"I know THE BEATLES have changed but we're going to carry on like that," Angus told Sky News. "For us, it's the best way. We are a band who started off with albums and that's how we've always been. We always were a band that if you heard something [by AC/DC] on the radio, well, that's only three minutes. Usually the best tracks were on the albums."

Speaking to The Telegraph in a 2008, Young said, "If we were on iTunes, we know a certain percentage of people would only download two or three songs from the album — and we don't think that represents us musically."

"Maybe I'm just being old-fashioned, but this iTunes, God bless 'em, it's going to kill music if they're not careful," singer Brian Johnson told Reuters. "It's a...monster, this thing. It just worries me. And I'm sure they're just doing it all in the interest of making as much... cash as possible. Let's put it this way, it's certainly not for the... love, let's get that out of the way right away."

The headline should read:

"AC/DC Sells 48,000 Digital Albums and 696,000 Songs That All Sound Exactly The Same In iTunes Debut".

Just saying. Even the band would chuckle.

I have no idea why you're getting down-voted for this, because it's true. It's funny that all this time, people could purchase this music a variety of other ways. But just because it's on iTunes, they flock to it. If iTunes ever gets around to offering a lossless music option, I could see myself using it a lot more. Every album I ever buy ends up just getting chucked into a box in the closet anyway.

Really? I didn't know that "Riff Raff" sounds exactly like "The Jack" or "Sin City" sounds the same as "Big Balls".

But what do I know............

Nothing wrong with the music industry. If you financially back a band and put the right push on them you can sell lots and still make money. You have ACDC songs on target commercials, on movies and the merch is literally everywhere! That's how you do it. No offense to smaller labels but I think they should focus on a few good bands not 200 so so bands and sink all of their resources into them.

What does that mean? Does it have to do with listening to music on 'Computers' w/ small speakers?

Anyways, they finally go with the iTunes long after I've gotten all of their music!!!! I might get the new live 2CD from there, but I'd prob. rather get the physical copy.

Best of luck, Ac/Dc with your catalog!

so that just leaves Tool and Garth Brooks. I'm sure country fans already own the dudes albums so he set, but I am going to be bummed when Maynard gives in to the whole iTunes thing. It would be almost as sad as when Disney bought Star Wars and decided there needs to be a new episode/spin-off movie every 3 years. Sad what the world has come to since the 80s.

Not at all the same thing as Disney aquiring Star Wars. You sir are a dumb shit. All this means is more exposure (for an admittedly over-exposed band). Kids who can't make their way to a record store, let alone find one now have an easier way of discovering a classic band without pirating their music. How is this in any way a bad thing? Seems like you are hung on the past and the old way of things. I bet you voted for Romney, you dumb fucking dinosaur.

hold out all you want but eventually you have to join the 21st century.I Tunes has it's pros and cons but what's done is done. AC/DC held out as long as possible.Music buying as we know it has changed forever. With that being said, AC/DC will do very well on I Tunes, because they are the greatest hard rock band of all time.

against AC/DC, I bought all the albums up to Flick of the Switch 30 years ago.
But can't you turn on any radio in any bumfuckville USA and hear this band? And all these people BOUGHT crappy compressed audio from Apple? No album covers, no liner notes. I don't get it. What's the lure?

PT Barnum was indeed correct...

There IS a sucker born every minute.

Exactly. People too lazy to get to the nearest shop (it's AC/DC, not your Indonesian basement tape-trading grindcore act) and get a real CDs, but blowing money on expensive headphones to end up listening to crappy mp3!!!

The best album they ever did was 'Let There Be Rock'. Why isn't that even mentioned? Where's your taste you despicable iTunes zombies?

And after a quick peruse, the Australian version of the 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' album is still not available.

The only track I would be interested in is 'Rock In Peace' which does NOT appear on the American version of DDDDC, much to my eternal chagrin.

But FUCK iTunes !! And the gravy train it rolled in on. And FUCK you !! FUCK everything !! FUCK the world !!

Now get the FUCK out of my office !!

how anyone can listen to ac/dc with brian johnson is a miracle..nice guy by all accounts and all that,but one of the most grating voices in all of rock/metal...I always look at ac/dc as two bands,one almighty rock'n'roll band until Bon died and one shitty parody after he died!

good news they are selling this much, they are a huge band and thats why they are still selling and they are in lots of movies and ads. and so what that Chris Brown or some fucker sell more right now, he will never sell as many albums as AC/DC and never have the same talent. he's just supposed to be cool right now and has 1 single at a time and thats it. its right what angus says, the best songs are usually on the albums, both with AC/DC and other famous rock bands. the hits are usualy ballads or some slower simpler songs that you can singalong to.
and guys just be happy that a rock band is still selling today, to bad there is no good younger bands selling this much

easy, thats why they finally took off when Brian took over??? maybe they would never have gotten as big with Bon, but still Bon was great and so is Brian. and the band didn't change that much, still played good rock 'n roll
