Rumor: CARCASS Putting Finishing Touches On First Studio Album In 17 Years - Nov. 29, 2012
Reactivated British extreme metal legends CARCASS are rumored to be putting the finishing touches on their first studio album in 17 years with acclaimed producer Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE). The band has yet to secure a label home for the effort, which is expected in early 2013.

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who have been touring with CARCASS since the band's reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY. Guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker are rumored to have been joined in the studio for the new CD recording sessions by drummer Matthias Voigt of German death metal and hardcore fusionists HEAVEN SHALL BURN.

CARCASS is in the process of booking a number of live shows for 2013, including appearances at next year's Maryland Deathfest and Chile's Metal Fest.

In a May 2012 interview with Metal Forces, Amott said about CARCASS' future plans, "I'm not working with CARCASS at the moment. From what I hear they're working on something new, but it's not with me. I'm not included in it. I don't know. I don't comment. [laughs] I don't really know what they're working on, so it's not really for me to say, but whatever it is I wish them well, of course. I had a great time doing the reunion shows; we played a lot of shows in 2008, 2009, 2010, and I had a fantastic time at those shows. I'm a very busy guy as well, so I could see why I wouldn't be included. I've pretty much got a full-time thing going on with ARCH ENEMY, and I'm with SPIRITUAL BEGGARS on top of that. It's very difficult for me to fit in a third band with touring and everything."

CARCASS' last album, 1996's "Swansong", was re-released in July 2008 via Earache Records. The reissue came fully remastered on a DualDisc (combined CD and DVD) in a deluxe digipak with extra artwork and a free sticker sheet featuring exclusive CARCASS designs, and included part 5 of a mini-documentary series entitled "The Pathologist's Report" as bonus video material, plus an exclusive bonus track, "Deathrider Da". The documentary consisted of interviews, filmed in London and Liverpool at the end of 2007, featuring the members of CARCASS — drummer Ken Owen (who is not involved in the band's current reunion because he suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in February 1999 and has had some rather serious health problems since then), Steer, Walker and Amott — who met up for the first time in ten years and were filmed discussing in-depth the story behind the band's development from their gore-soaked grind beginnings to the more refined, melodic moments of their later output.

Probably the greatest news about this is that Amott is no involved. I loved his solos on the albums he did with them, but since then he's become a pretentious dickhead who plays overproduced DM for teenage girls. Bill Steer on the other hand is a man of taste who can do no wrong (hey, he likes Thin Lizzy, even back in the day he wasn't ashamed of saying that publicly).

I say go for it. Wake up and smell the Carcass!

So Bill Steer revived his interest in Death Metal? They better come up with something interesting as otherwise they'll just do like the other bands reuniting before them and spoil an almost perfect legacy.

yes, but please be grind at least.

I remember buying Symphonies Of Sickness gatefold LP when it first came out in 89 when I was 15 lol. I had to actually get an older kid to buy it for me because the store wouldn't sell it to me for being to young, because of the artwork.

As long as Bill Steer is there Im happy. He had such a fucking heavy and killer guitar tone back in the day, even when he was with Napalm.

That Disincarnate album ruled hopefully James Murphy will put that band back on the map. Gorguts Disincarnate and Mercyless from France were some of the most underrated beat deathmetal bands.

If this is true my god I will be absolutely stoked. Carcass are without doubt one of the best death metal bands ever. Cannot wait to hear how Bill sounds on guitar, an absolutely brilliant guitarist. I saw them 4 years ago and they blew me away. This is great news. :D I hope they get a second guitarist in as good as Michael was since he isn't in the band any more. 2013 is looking very promising for releases.

I enjoy Amott's solos but Bill wrote 90% of the riffs... and Bill's unique solos are pretty much the best thing about Carcass.

Give me an album that is a cross between Necroticism and Heartwork :D

I saw them in 2008 in Adelaide and it was very very awesome, maybe they will get Ken Owen involved somehow with this new album (if the rumour is true)

with a mixture of SOS and Necroticism woud be the best album they could release. Keep on Farting in the free world wasnt exactly what people wanted to hear from Carcass, and Swansong was a big letdown and should not have have been released. Carcass had millions of imitators and no equals.

I love Heartwork as much as the next person but time has shown that they drifted too far into guitar center clinic territory. I blame Amott for this more than anyone else. Carcass is a gore grind band. Anyone who can't accept that never fully got the band anyways. I hope the new one is filthy, ugly, and pisses all the Arch Enemy fans off.

Carcass are not a gore grind band. And to categorise the band in such a simplistic way does them a total dis-service. Yep, they started off playing that style, and they are arguably the most influential band there is as far as that sub-genre is concerned. Bill Steer wrote the lion's share of the music on both Necroticism and Heartwork. And "Buried Dreams", which featured the most melodic solo section on the latter album was written solely by Bill. So I think to blame Michael Amott for that style shift is probably giving him too much credit.

Luckily, I love all eras of Carcass, although yes, Swansong was a weaker final album than a band of their stature deserved to have. All I care about, is that their new album features quality material. Whether that's in the gore grind style, or the melodic death/Gothenburg style (both of which are sub-genres that Carcass were pioneers of) doesn't matter to me really. However, Necroticism is my fave death metal album of all time, so another album in that style from them would be especially awesome!

I really hope Bill does some vocals on this new one!
