MOTÖRHEAD To Fans: Don't Buy 'Outrageously Overpriced' Box Set - Nov. 28, 2012
MOTÖRHEAD, the hardest-working, hardest-touring band in the world, loves when fans buy their records, but not this time. A new box set, called "Complete Early Years Box Set", has just come out by the company who has the rights to the band's early recordings, and they are charging over $600 for it!

Earlier this year, the band was able to temporarily halt the product from coming out, but now MOTÖRHEAD has learned that the label is moving ahead with the project, which is scheduled for release in December. MOTÖRHEAD have no control over what's done with these early songs, and they want to make sure fans are completely aware that they have no involvement whatsoever in releasing such an expensive box set.

Before the initial release was blocked, MOTÖRHEAD's iconic frontman Lemmy said: "Unfortunately, greed once again rears its yapping head. I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!"

He now adds: "It really bothers me that these people would put this out at these prices especially in this day and age, when money is tight. There you go again labels, trying to squeeze out every last dime you can from our fans.

"But they reap what they sow, don't they? Look what's going on with the music business. These are fine examples of corporate greed: reissuing the same stuff over and over again, overcharging the customers with outrageous pricing, basically trying to rape our fanbase.

"Although we still make money from record sales, this is not the way I ever intended it. I don't like to see fans getting ripped off or taken advantage of. And that's what's happening here."

If fans do want to gift a loved one with some new MOTÖRHEAD product this holiday, by all means, please pick up the band's most recent "The Wörld Is Ours - Vol 2 - Anyplace Crazy As Anywhere Else", the follow-up to 2011's "The Wörld Is Ours - Vol 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else".

Like its sibling, "Anyplace Crazy…" is packed with more magnificent Motörmaterial from "The Wörld Is Yours" tour, including the triumphant 2011 Wacken headline appearance as well as highlights from the Sonisphere and Rio shows. More than anything, these are new recordings, new releases and compiled with care and attention from the band themselves.

If you want to support MOTÖRHEAD, then this is the way to do it. And if you do have a hankering for the old material, remember, it is still available piecemeal, and not simply via the outrageously overpriced box set.

318.59 euro is "only" 412.51 dollar.

It's still quite expensive.

Not only is it expensive but the box itself looks awful. Go by Lemmy's words and let those greedy label bastards cash-in on another band!

He was warning about this same set back in February, too:

It's a shame they're still releasing this thing.

What a joke, I doubt anyone paid for this shit. The whole pay to meet the band is the ultimate FU to fans.

Well some people did indeed pay for them and one person already said Lemmy didn't even show up. What are your thoughts now if you dont mind me asking?

Well Ibanez, I think the whole situation is just sad. Often at the meet & greets, someone from the band is missing.

I think the bands see this as a way to get some cash from downloading, but I think the people that pay for meet and greets are the diehard fans that would buy the album anyway. In my day, we would wait for the band and they would come out or invite fans in, it was like an unwritten rule. I would not pay to hang out with anyone. I just think it's a rip off.

Respect to Lemmy & Motorhead for coming out and saying this. Not too many other bands would do the same, since those are too afraid to admit it.

I don't need Lemmy to tell me not to buy it.

The price tag does it quite well on its own.

Lemmy is an overrated hack, and from the irrefutable evidence served up by some of these more knowledgeable posters, the guy is also full of shit, charging huge amounts for meet and greets and selling worthless memorabilia like it's a Gene Simmon$ catalog. Buy what goes directly in my pocket, so I can play more games at the Whiskey, and cases of booze, and a wink and a nod to the "fans".

What the fuck is to discuss about anyway? Anybody can charge 1000$ for an autographed picture of their own dick if they wanted to, it still wouldn't be outrageous because nobody is forcing you to buy it. In capitalism you decide with your wallet not protesting, boycotting and being whiny.

Of course Motorhead are selling Motorhead wine, action figures, motorheadphones and meet and greets on a festival, because they apparently have good management that knows how to make them some money in a world where they have no chance by making it by music only.

Now I am not against bands making VIP Packages for their fans to buy where they can get a great experience and get to meet their idols. But package deal like that to me is worth more like $300 and if i'm paying that much to meet you and get a better concert experience...YOU BETTER SHOW UP! I mean I did a VIP Package for the band COLD and we were suppose to get let in early and pre show shopping. The band felt bad so they gave us a stack of COLD Jagermeister cups. And if you didn't get to meet all of them you should have gotten a refund.

This reminds me of when Trent Reznor found out that the record label in Australia was charging over 27 dollars for the then-new Nine Inch Nails album, so he told fans at a show to just steal it off the internet. And he uploaded it himself to the torrent sites!

I bought a meet and greet once and NEVER again. I felt like we were being treated like children by the bitchy host who only cared about rushing us through like cattle and barking about 1 thing to get signed.

The band I met had 4 albums out total. I asked the host if I can get the 4 albums signed and she (host) just about flipped out. I don't act like an asshole and I'm not the type to walk up and get 20 things signed, but fuck that. I paid $500, and to me, that's bullshit. The band ended up signing the other 3 albums outside. For $500 you should be able to get 10 fucking things signed. I didn't ask for them to come over and brick pave my house or shovel shit. Just a fucking scribble. So yeah, fuck that I love all vip shit.
