RUSH Leads Fan Voting For 2013 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame - Nov. 28, 2012
With about one week left to let fans' voices be heard for the first time on who deserves to get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year, RUSH has pulled in nearly a quarter of the votes at 24.3%, followed by DEEP PURPLE at 17.1%. HEART is third with 12.4% of the votes cast.

Although the public vote could influence the outcome of who is inducted and who isn't, it will most likely be used only as a tie-breaker. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class Of 2013. The results will be announced in mid-December.

RUSH has been eligible for the honor since 1999, 25 years after the release of the band's self-titled debut album.

"I'm really happy for the RUSH fans who feel that it is really important, and I hope we're inducted for their sake," RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson told NorthJersey.com. "Personally it never really mattered to me, but at the same time it's nice to be nominated."

According to Lifeson, the Rock Hall induction would pale in comparison to the band's having received one of the prestigious Governor General's Performing Arts Awards for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in March, the highest honor bestowed on artists by the Canadian government.

"The acknowledgement we got from the Canadian government, and by extension Canadians, is very dear to us," Lifeson said. "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is more a popularity contest."

The April 18, 2013 event is set for Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in the city since 1993. HBO will tape the show for broadcast at a later date.

won't matter as they will come close but will not make it. there are far more deserving rappers and people you never heard of that deserve to in something called the rock and roll hall of fame than actual rock and roll bands. the voters are a joke and it is a shame as I have been told the museum itself is a great place to visit but that is something I will never do as long as the induction process is the way it is.

& all those disrespectful a**holes who keep ignoring bands that should already be in it!!!!!!!!!

Even if Rush goes in, The fact they been left off the ballot for 20+ years or more is beyond sickening!!!!!!!!!

Same can be said for Kiss , Deep Purple , Maiden , Priest , Motorhead , UFO , Scorpions , Rainbow , Solo Dio , Solo Ozzy , Thin Lizzy etc. When those bands finally get in, It won't me a f'n thing. Cause the Hall will continue to be & remain tainted going forward.

Yet, They already put in Madonna , Abba , LL Cool J , and countless other rap , pop , country , hip hop , R&B artist before Kiss , Rush etc.

F the Hall & everyone involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

will get in. This fan voting scheme is set up to let the so called voters off the hook when these bands finally get in. (Rush,Purple,Kiss). Who the voters are is still a mystery. I know it's Wenner and all his cronies at Rolling Stone, but beyond that is anyone's guess. I've been to the RnR Hall of Fame and it is sullied by the absence of many deserving artists. Although it's not metal the Motown museum in Detroit is outstanding. Graceland is cool too. The fan voting is positive because it will allow these bands to get their deserving recognition.

Don't let the irrelevance of the voting process deter you from going to the museum. It is an amazing place with fantastic events and exhibits! I've been there many times. Despite not actually having their name on the wall of fame, there are still many displays and info on bands not inducted.

I was there the year it opened and have gone back many times. The actual "Hall of Fame" is a corridor and the top of the museum that really is not much of anything. Everything else is absolutely amazing!

All super groups like Rush should boycott the RRHOF. it's such a farce...just look at past inductees. There should be a real place for R&R run by people that actually know a thing or two about R&R bands and their place in history not by influential people running the industry as they see it profitable and or to establish non relevant artist's careers.

#Just a thought.

It would be cool if they got in. I would like to see them on TV showing the RRHoF how it's done. Has anyone seen them nail "Freewill" on the "Time Machine" DVD? Or maybe they could do 2112 Overture with "Temples of Syrinx" I'm sure Geddy could nail the singing on the latter. After all, they wouldn't be doing the 3 hour show there. I know he could do it! They would fucking kill on the RRHoF show. That would be wicked!

What a bunch of sh^t! If the popular votes actually counted, only rock bands would be getting in. No more Madonna/Rap/Country acts. I knew when the rh said they were going to let fans vote that it would some how be B.S.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, Rush has always been this special thing that only a few people 'got'. Now, more and more people have gotten aboard the Rush bandwagon, perhaps even a few that used to disparage them. Hey, popularity is always cool from a business perspective but as a long time fan who followed them more on a cultish level and defended them from detractors I could either take the RRHOF nomination or leave it. I guess I'm with Alex on this one.

Look for the crack heads that make up the selection committee to ignore Rush, Deep Purple, and Heart as the 3 leading vote getters, and go with 2 rappers and one disco artist.

Those 3 bands alone are legendary. NWA are rap legends, but let's not forget this is Rock 'N' fn Roll.
