DAVE GROHL Discusses New QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Album - Nov. 23, 2012
Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA, THEM CROOKED VULTURES) spoke to BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe about QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's upcoming sixth studio album, for which he recently recorded the drums.

"With QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, like, there were no boundaries with that band, there were no limits with them," he explained. "It was like if you did something insane, you'd do more, if you did something that seemed too ridiculous — and honestly the new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE record, I'm playing drums on that, and I'll do something so completely ridiculous, I'll just, like, 'There's no way that that Josh [Homme, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE mainman] is going to let me do that,' and he'll say, 'Do that for forty-five seconds, over and over again, that's become, like, part of the song, that is a big part of the song,' and that's the way they work."

Speaking about QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's general vibe, Grohl added: "When you walk into a festival backstage with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, it’s like, the record stops. People stop and they stare, and it’s like, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE are, without question, the baddest rock and roll band in the world! And they still are, and when 'Songs For The Deaf', when that came out, it blew people's minds, man, for real."

Grohl stepped in to lay down the drums tracks on the new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE record, which is expected in early 2013, following the departure of Joey Castillo.

Grohl previously played drums on QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's 2002 album "Songs For The Deaf". He also teamed with Homme and LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones for the THEM CROOKED VULTURES project.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE will make its first-ever appearance at the U.K.'s Download festival next summer. The event will take place June 14-16, 2013 at Donington Park.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's fifth album, "Era Vulgaris", came out in June 2007 and entered the Billboard chart at No. 14.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE commemorated the reissue of its classic 1998 debut with a limited series of intimate shows at which the band played the record in its entirety, plus B-sides and other rarities and hits from the early QUEENS catalog up to the present.

Dave Grohl is THE MAN for that job. He did wonders on that previous album and I can only hope he'll help make the new one great.

What a douche. Yes, I am sure QOTSA would outsell Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica and such.

Fuk yeah! Joey Castillo sucked anyways! Had no imagination. He was just a simple meter. Anything Grohl touches is gold...

...and BAM! the cops beat down the doors and the whole thing implodes!

I think Josh would rather see this potential comeback pan out in a drama-free manner. Love Nick's contributions to past QOTSA records, but dude is a total liability. Lullabies and Era Vulgaris don't get a lot of love, but they were good albums (provided you actually listened to them) and proved Josh is the core of QOTSA.

QOTSA has been Queens Lite since Nick was booted, and just like a Led Zeppelin reunion, Nick rejoining QOTSA ain't gonna happen, though it would be great...

If I recall correctly, Josh booted Nick out of Kyuss way back when as well, so I think it's a twice bitten no way deal for Oliveri. Maybe a one-off kind of thing at a SoCal show, but that'll be as close as it will get IMO.

Maybe w/ Grohl drumming on the new album they might recapture some magic..... maybe. And yeah, Castillo left QOTSA?!? Not that I pay that much attention to them anymore, but I never saw any blurbs about that; oh well...

Nick would come back IN A HEARTBEAT if Josh just said the word. Sadly for him, that's not gonna happen,

Love Grohl on drums, especially in Queens, but I'll miss Joey.

Btw, this record couldn't come too soon. I'm hating on fucking everything right now.

stopped right after Songs for the Deaf. That was their best album and everything after that was kinda crap, IMO. Besides, Josh IS QOTSA so it doesn't really matter who is playing on the album. Although Mark Lanegan's vocals are a definite part of the QOTSA sound. That being said, the last two albums were really hollow efforts that sound like all filler tunes that should have been elbowed.
