SOUNDGARDEN's 'King Animal' Cracks U.S. Top 5 - Nov. 21, 2012

"King Animal", the first collection of all-new material in 16 years from grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN, and first since the group reunited in 2010, sold 83,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on November 13 via Tom Whalley's new record label, a partnership between his Seven Four Entertainment and Republic Records.

SOUNDGARDEN blasted through 23 songs in front of 1,000 people at New York City's Irving Plaza nightclub on November 13 in the first of three such shows to celebrate the arrival of "King Animal".

The band reunited in 2010 after a 13-year break, releasing a retrospective collection called "Telephantasm" and a concert album titled "Live On I-5".

It's decent and worth purchasing, but this is not a great album, especially compared to Soundgarden's past catalog.

i don't give a fuck about the stupid popularity contests on blabbermouth about how many albums in the united states have been sold in the first week of release.. it's about the music, not about how popular a band is..

besides, a lot of great music has been made in the underground scene and not in the mainstream world.. the biggest sales and the biggest hits are usually middle of the road music for the masses..

I'm just glad to have some new Soundgarden music. It's not their strongest album, but it is a very good collection of songs, and worth listening to from start to finish.

Considering the amount of trash that is in the top 5, purchased by the mindless mainstream loving masses, I'm surprised this cracked the top 5! If I was Soundgarden I would be more than pleased with the result.

I'm just glad they're making new music, I don't care how the chart!

What a damn shame that One Direction sells over 500,000, and these guys can't hit 100,000. Still, a good accomplishment and I hope it continues to sell well.

great album and yes the state of the industry sucks, but still its good to see band like Soundgarden sell so much, if you listen to the music compared to shit thats been on the charts, all these talentless bands and singers using autotunes and making the same shitty song over and over with shitty lyrics. Soundgarden have always made strange complex music that takes some time getting into and you have to give a good listen before you realy like it, but its great they are selling this much and hopefully it will open some doors for some other good bands and hopefully some younger talented bands.
