DEFTONES' 'Koi No Yokan' Cracks U.S. Top 15 - Nov. 21, 2012
DEFTONES' seventh studio album, "Koi No Yokan", sold 65,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 11 on The Billboard 2020 chart. The CD arrived in stores on November 13 via Reprise.

"Koi No Yokan" follows up 2010's "Diamond Eyes", which opened with 62,000 units to debut at No. 6.

DEFTONES' 2006 album, "Saturday Night Wrist", registered a first-week tally of 76,000 to enter the chart at No. 10.

"Koi No Yokan" is riding a wave of critical acclaim. The LA Music Blog called it "the best album from DEFTONES in years and quite possibly the best in their entire career," while Loudwire reported that "if the SMASHING PUMPKINS were heavier, ballsier and angrier, they'd make albums that sound like this."

Frontman Chino Moreno told The Pulse Of Radio that he thinks the new album is a perfect example of what DEFTONES does best. "Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics," he said. "I mean, yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just like, you know, in your face, aggro, the whole time, punching you in the face. There's also this very soothing element where there's, you know, a lot of soundscapes and a lot of outside influences other than just, you know, attack, attack the whole time. I don't know… I really think we meld those things great."

The first single from "Koi No Yokan" is called "Tempest".

The album title is a Japanese term for the moment you know you will fall in love with someone.

The new disc is the second recorded with bassist Sergio Vega filling in for Chi Cheng, who remains in a semi-comatose state as a result of a November 2008 car accident.

DEFTONES are currently on the road in the U.S., with the tour coming to a close on November 21 in Los Angeles.

I meant its impressive that a band who never screamed mainstream has such a dedicated fan base that they can go ahead and pull in that kind've number in 2012

it's fuckin' great. Buy it, download it, whatever, get it.
it's fuckin' great. If there were more bands like this instead of cookie cutter bullshit, we'd all be better off.
it's fuckin' great. Hats of fo sho to Nick Raskulinecz for the awesome production. Carpenter's tones are just sick.

Congrats, guys! The signature sounds are there but the evolution continues. Can't wait to see you again and again on the road.

A band that has never disappointed. Glad that their physical albums are still selling.

I haven't stopped listening to this album. Swerve City is one of the best Deftones tracks I've heard. GREAT album, especially coming off Diamond Eyes which was also super solid. Well done!

There is not a single weak track on the entire album. Pound for pound I think it's their best album to date and I can't even begin to describe how well the album flows together from front to back.

I went out and bought it on the first day it came out and it has not left my cd player yet. Some of the melodies are nothing short of jaw dropping. I don't think they could put out a shit album if they even tried to and I still believe they are the strongest band out there today. There are no other bands that can constantly continue change, evolve, grow etc... and not comprimise their core sound or lose fans. Fuck, the chorus alone from "Romantic Dreams" is worth the price of the album alone.

Deftones stand alone and reign supreme in 2012.

good to see them and Soundgarden sell this well because these are bands that are not just in it for the money, they make music they want to do and try to to new things and complex and strange things too, thats far too lacking on the radio today.

65,000 copies sold and debuting at #11? The new Testament album debuted at #12 with only 20,000 its first week. Something's messed up these days.
