DEFTONES Frontman Interviewed On Minnesota's 93X (Audio) - Nov. 17, 2012
This past week, Harry of the 93X radio station in Minneapolis, Minnesota conducted an interview with DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

DEFTONES' seventh studio album, "Koi No Yokan", is likely to sell between 60,000 and 65,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on November 13 via Reprise.

"Koi No Yokan" follows up 2010's "Diamond Eyes", which sold 62,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 6 on The Billboard 200 chart.

DEFTONES' 2006 album, "Saturday Night Wrist", opened with 76,000 units to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Koi No Yokan" is already riding a wave of advance critical acclaim. The LA Music Blog called it "the best album from DEFTONES in years and quite possibly the best in their entire career," while Loudwire reported that "if the SMASHING PUMPKINS were heavier, ballsier and angrier, they'd make albums that sound like this."

The first single from "Koi No Yokan" is called "Tempest".

The album title is a Japanese term for the moment you know you will fall in love with someone.

The new disc is the second recorded with bassist Sergio Vega filling in for Chi Cheng, who remains in a semi-comatose state as a result of a November 2008 car accident.

DEFTONES RULE!
I know everyone has their favorite album, but the new one is really cool... Grows on you...
I wrote a review on Amazon if you agree..

I think it's crazy to review an album the first couple times you hear it, so I can honestly say I listened to Koi No Yokan about twenty times before I even thought about reviewing it. Diamond Eyes blew my mind and I knew this would not disappoint.

Swerve City -
The album opens with a bang of riffs then envelopes into the crooning Chino we all love, mixed with an atmospheric swirl of keyboards. Cure ambience echoes in those crying guitars.

Romantic Dreams - Hypnotic guitar broken by the synch of drums / vocals..... Then it gets threatening. "I promise".... Is more convincing than Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode at full emotional throttle? Wow. The guitars rain down a heavy thick sludgy atmosphere where Chino Moreno vocals hover so lightly over. The last of the song is a memorizing 30 second journey...

Leathers - If you haven't heard this, do. After an 80's Fright Night malingering of strange trace guitar in the first 35 seconds, it explodes and tears off your face and pounds, pounds, pounds...ANGRY.. GUNS! RAZORS! LEATHERS! This is one of the heaviest songs on the album... IMO

Poltergeist - The click clack intro sets you up for a trap door of echoing screams followed by melon collie singing over bone crushing riffs. Like an onion, this song goes layers and layers deep, using the atmospheric keyboards in the advantage, while separating guitars, drums and screams.

Entombed - Intertwining guitars going down a very subtle path equal to a gentle rainstorm. Chino lightly sprinkles over the guitars until everything ups a level with a more passion. "Shapes of colors are all I see. Shapes of colors are all I feel." The song almost dies, but quickly is brought back to life to the confessional cries of Chino...

Graphic Nature - Harmonics never sounded so good, followed by confronting chunky riffs. Liquid Sex..."I'm aware of the demons that you've tucked away".... Wow... This will be an awesome song to see live...

Tempest - This was the first single. I played it in the car and my wife quickly complained it would put her to sleep as she drove my drunk ass to the bar. "Lay there"... how quickly this songs jumps back into Deftones awesomeness.... Thrust..Thrust..Thrust.. Echoing... Ahead... Ahead... Ahead... "Turning in circles...." And how beautiful it sounds just to be equally wrapped in all that distortion... the drums just go, go, go... Awesome song... The end just builds up to.....

Gauze - I kept having to turn down the stereo because I thought there was outside activity.. All the beeps and echoing noises... Man, I am so happy to hear these guitar roll-offs in between the riffs.. I didn't notice them until the last few listens.. So cool... The atmospherics are just as cool and impressive as "Diamond Eyes"... I love the passion..Chino just sings his ass off like Ian Asterbury and delivers with such a passion and rage combined it transgresses a passionate rage that you're forced to digest.

(Getting another beer)

Rosemary - Surprisingly, my favorite song on the album. I LOVE HEAVINESS, but this seems like the ultimate calm before the storm. It sounds like an alternate Smashing Pumpkins "MACHINA" universe with an angrier vocalist... This song is so thick on atmosphere, you are looking out the corner of your eyes for anything incoming, because you know things are lurking and about to attack... Pure beauty. A nice time to catch you're breath. After the MACHINA guitar build ups and calming breaks.. "Cross the Arctic Skies.." (I'm in Anchorage... awesome!)
Out of no where, the ugliest guitar pops out and Abe Cunningham turns into Dale Crover from the Melvins and just pounds, allowing perfect synchs between the guitar and the beat. Personally, I almost had a wreck with the near ending to this song and was extremely disappointed it didn't go on with just the riff and drums for another 20 minutes... I have to make a remix and mix this song with "Cow" by the Melvins, just for personal use... the best part of the entire album is the transition between these songs... The song ends on a calming gentle stream of tranquility... and transitions to the nect song....

Good Squad - Still not fully realizing that Rosemary was over, I can feel everything getting tenser and tenser and tenser... next thing I know.. THE DIAL IS SET TO 10 AT FULL WHITE BOY... and I'm about to show it. You know, slam dancing in the middle of the interstate drunk on Mickey's... Holy Shit... This is the most unexpected song to rip it apart... LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

What Happened to You? - A very nice calming ending to a very beautifully hidden brutal album. I hope chino can keep hitting these high notes after belting out an album of aggression.

congrats, job well done.

More depth in this one than DE and obviously the most experimental since SNW.

You kept hinting at wanting to take more time and explore and expand this time and it's definitely there. Groove, melody, atmosphere, and depth, but still hitting hard for the headbangers too.

Awesome music, as always.

Being a long time Deftones fan and having loved the previous two as well as eagerly anticipating this release, I thought it was ok at best. Leathers, Tempest, Goon Squad are good songs but theres a drop off after that.
