ROADRUNNER RECORDS Names New GM - Nov. 15, 2012
According to Billboard.biz, Mike Easterlin, head of promotion at Roadrunner Records, has been named the general manager of the label following departure of president Jonas Nachsin. Easterlin, who recently became GM of Fueled By Ramen, will oversee both Roadrunner and Fueled By Ramen and will work with Roadrunner senior VP of A&R David Rath and senior VP of marketing & creative services Madelyn Scarpulla in running the label.

Easterlin came to Roadrunner in 2007 when the label merged its promotion staff with Lava/Atlantic's where he had worked as senior VP of promotion since 2005.

Roadrunner's April 2012 "restructuring" under Warner Music Group resulted in roughly 36 staff members worldwide being let go and several regional offices being closed (including the office in the U.K.). In addition, Roadrunner Records founder/CEO Cees Wessels left the label 17 months after the completion of its sale to the Warner Music Group.

Initially founded in the Netherlands in 1980, Roadrunner Records earned its place as one of the most prominent international independent record labels. The Roadrunner catalog boasts early releases from such seminal artists as KING DIAMOND, TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEPULTURA and ANNIHILATOR. More recently, the label has experienced unprecedented success with multi-platinum artists NICKELBACK and SLIPKNOT, gold-certified STONE SOUR and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, as well as modern heavy hitters TRIVIUM and MACHINE HEAD.

where the eagle fly
and the mountains high

now we is up where we belong
where the 4 winds blow
and the clear winds blow"

I remember buying records at a place called Brian's Record Option in Kingston. See video:

anyway - way back in the early 80's we would hear about bands releasing records on some label called Roadrunner - word was that the bands were awesome. The only way to get these records (at least in my area) was through Brian's shop via import.

Import prices were huge and cut into beer funds, which back then was a serious problem and, nothing to laugh about...at least not when sober. I would bring in armloads of records to trade for imports.

Looking back on it all - I wish I had kept some of the records I traded in. Whatever - long story-short: thanks to Roadrunner records, I became aware of and enjoyed a whole lot of bands I might otherwise have never heard.

Cheers.

Label home to Gym Class Heroes, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore now conected to the label that brought us Sepultura, Type O Negative & Life Of Agony. I'm sure it will help RR make it's full transition to pop drivel label.

R.I.P Roadrunner. You were once a great label, if it said Roadrunner on it back in the day you could almost bet your bottom dollar it would kick ass.....and now......Nickleback. :(

Another killer label virtually destroyed by the majors. They used to release innovative bands, now they're a washed up hasbeen.
