DEFTONES' 'Koi No Yokan' Projected To Sell 60K-65K First Week - Nov. 14, 2012
DEFTONES' seventh studio album, "Koi No Yokan", is likely to sell between 60,000 and 65,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on November 13 via Reprise.

"Koi No Yokan" follows up 2010's "Diamond Eyes", which sold 62,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 6 on The Billboard 200 chart.

DEFTONES' 2006 album, "Saturday Night Wrist", opened with 76,000 units to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Koi No Yokan" is already riding a wave of advance critical acclaim. The LA Music Blog called it "the best album from DEFTONES in years and quite possibly the best in their entire career," while Loudwire reported that "if the SMASHING PUMPKINS were heavier, ballsier and angrier, they'd make albums that sound like this."

Frontman Chino Moreno told The Pulse Of Radio that he thinks the new album is a perfect example of what DEFTONES does best. "Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics," he said. "I mean, yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just like, you know, in your face, aggro, the whole time, punching you in the face. There's also this very soothing element where there's, you know, a lot of soundscapes and a lot of outside influences other than just, you know, attack, attack the whole time. I don't know… I really think we meld those things great."

The first single from "Koi No Yokan" is called "Tempest".

The album title is a Japanese term for the moment you know you will fall in love with someone.

The new disc is the second recorded with bassist Sergio Vega filling in for Chi Cheng, who remains in a semi-comatose state as a result of a November 2008 car accident.

DEFTONES are currently on the road in the U.S. and next play in Dallas on Wednesday (November 14), with the tour coming to a close on November 21 in Los Angeles.

I honestly think this is their best album since Around The Fur. No crap on it like Digital Bath or Minerva. They focused on making a great beginning to end rock record and they succeeded. Chino doesn't whine as much and he hardly has any pigsqueal scream moments that were rampant in past albums.

As good as self-titled. Strong pulse through the whole set, was surprising.

The more I listen to this album the more I love it. Abe's drum work is insanely awesome as always. Hats off to the Deftones.

But hardly what I'd call their best work. Also 'Digital Bath' isn't crap.

Those are actually really good numbers for 2012 standards! Well deserved too. The new one is just as good if not better than Diamond Eyes.

I know I'm in the minority, but I still think Saturday Night Wrist is their best (minus Pink Cellphone). I've been a huge, huge fan for 15 years and they just keep blowing me away album after album.

is that its a 'complete' ALBUM, every song is where its meant to be track wise speaking. It just flows so smoothly song after song with such variety, heaviness and amazing build ups. Its not just a great bunch of songs put together like in the previous cases but this band has grown and learned how to make a masterpiece. Good job!

I went to the webster to see TEAM SLEEP back in the day. A lot of what Chino did with that side project has transferred into what the deftones have done on the latest albums. I'd call it simply complex with a controlled agression. I've seen them live in many of their incarnations and loved every moment of it. One Love For Chi
