TODD LA TORRE-Fronted Version Of QUEENSRŸCHE Releases First Trailer For Forthcoming Album - Nov. 14, 2012
The first trailer for the forthcoming album from the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE can be seen below. The group is scheduled to enter the studio in December to begin recording the CD for a tentative early 2013 release via an as-yet-undetermined record label.

In a posting on his official Facebook page, La Torre — who is also a member of Florida melodic metallers CRIMSON GLORY — wrote earlier this month, "[I am] listening to our demos and finishing arrangements, etc.

"Trust me, you will hear a severe difference in sound, style, and writing in the new QUEENSRŸCHE record as compared to the last several albums.

"We are very proud of what is being accomplished, and we hope the fans will find it refreshing. It's got some prog elements, heaviness, soul, darkness, and even something very radio-worthy.

"[I] can't wait to have this out early next year!"

In a recent interview with Metal-Rules.com, QUEENSRŸCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield stated about how the addition of La Torre and guitarist Parker Lundgren has affected the musical direction of the band's new material. "I think we've just found a good chemistry between the five of us," he said. "I mean, Michael [Wilton, guitar], Eddie [Jackson, bass] and I have had chemistry for such a long time, and Parker has been with us now for many years, playing our old material. And we're always thinking and looking at the future, and we've talked about what to do and how to do it, and rolling Todd into the equation, he's just stepped in and fit the role of what QUEENSRŸCHE wants to achieve and what we wanna do."

He added, "The proof will be in the pudding when everybody can hear it when it finally comes out. But I think our fans are gonna be really pleasantly surprised and they're gonna have something that I think they're gonna consider some good work by us that they've been missing for quite a while."

Speaking to a radio station in June, La Torre stated about QUEENSRŸCHE's plans to record new original music, "Obviously, we wanna try and write something that's heavy, but also has a common thread of what is QUEENSRŸCHE's sound — very melodic guitar parts. Vocally, I'm in a very unique position because a lot of people like to throw around, 'Oh, he's a clone, he's an imitator, he's this, he's that.' And I feel like I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't.

"My style of singing and phrasing is very similar to [that of original QUEENSRŸCHE singer] Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. I mean, a lot of my high metal screams are grittier and dirtier, like Rob Halford. My vibrato is more similar to Bruce Dickinson or Geoff Tate. A lot of the crying and ways of entering a vocal phrase and phonating, the way I say words, are very similar to Geoff Tate.

"I wear my influences on my sleeve, but I also think that I have a heavier vibe than Geoff Tate ever had. With a lot of the heavier, gritty, thrashier metal style… I mean, I love to do some of the death growls like Chuck Billy [TESTAMENT] does. Is that QUEENSRŸCHE sound? No. But if they want it kicked up and give it a heavier edge, I think that I have that, and that's something that Geoff Tate never did. Not taking anything away from him, but I think I do show a wide range of versatility."

Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June after fronting the group for three decades, recently sought to prevent his former bandmates from touring and operating under the QUEENSRŸCHE name without him. While ruling against Tate, the presiding judge determined that there was no legal hurdle in Tate also using the name with an all-new lineup of musicians. "I don't see any reason that Mr. Tate can't have the benefit, if he gets other members, of whatever name he uses of using the brand," Superior Court Judge Carol A. Schapira said during the July 13 court hearing. "I think [doing that would be] inherently confusing, although I'm sure the market can get these things sorted out," she added.

On September 2, Tate announced that he was launching his own version of QUEENSRŸCHE with RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer, former QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE bassist Rudy Sarzo and former MEGADETH and KING DIAMOND guitarist Glen Drover. Also on board in the new group are returning QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Kelly Gray — who played with the band from 1998 until 2001 and also produced several of their albums — and keyboardist Randy Gane, who has toured and recorded with QUEENSRŸCHE and Geoff's solo group in the past.

Then why have trademarks or copyrights or patents at all? After all, the market is smart enough to "get these things sorted out" on its own!

...except of course that both O:M II and American Soldier were damn fine albums in their own right, and were plenty "GOOD."

I think Tate's been a giant d-bag through all of this, but people really need to stop with this BS that QR never released anything good after PL (*if* they even acknowledge PL, which some people foolishly do not do).

Probably Mister Mish won't post anymore. Now as the day closes by for finally a real Queensryche album, camp Tate is shitting their pants and going more aggressively towards legal possibility to stop this haha. This makes me happy the way he realizes the hard way what's coming his way - a real metal album by the OLD legendary QR.

There's got to be something left for me... Oh yeah, 81% of this album is in fact my themes and song structures. Yeah, I wrote this beast baby, but I threw these song sheets away in favour of the beautiful Dedicated To Chaos.

Shame on Wilton/Rockenfield/Jackson for scurrying through my bins at the Taint mansion and collecting my discarded music sheets.

Okay, I've been on the fence about QR with Todd. However, that trailer got me fucking excited! AND they got Jimbo back to produce!

If this gets marketed properly (attention record labels), this CD could seriously do well for Scott, Michael and Eddie - the remaining 75% of Queensryche.

Put that trailer up against anything on Kings & Thieves and it kills.

Good job guys!!

You meant Geoff's pathetic BULLSHIT sales numbers...? Surely?

If those figures had been real, they'd not only have cracked the top 200 Billboard but also scored VERY highly on the Heat Chart for not having cracked the top 200 under his own name before.

The dumb fucks didn't even do a bit of research before spinning their lie.

All in all, it's a good day to be a fan of Queensryche.

I know how to solve the issue with the name... the REAL QR that put out this trailer can keep the umlaut over the Y and Taint's Fakeryche has to lose the umlaut. Sound fair?
look at the umlaut as a metaphorical representation od which version has the BALLS.

Can't tell much from these clips other than the fact that this guy is nowhere near the level of Geoff Tate in his prime. It's metal, yes, but Queensryche were more than just another metal band. And, like it or not, Geoff Tate's distinctive vocal stylings played a huge part in their success (back when they were successful).

lol all we got was a few seconds of a guy kinda half screaming, some uninspired music and a lot of shaking words and that's how its supposed to be done? You see, that's why I can't take the Tate haters here seriously. They're all ready to crown this the second coming without really even having heard a thing. It's always hard to tell from such short clips, but things certainly sound promising. We're never going to get anything similar, or anything that will rival, 'Operation Mindcrime' era Queensryche, but it's great to hear them putting some fire back into the Queensryche sound. Really looking forward to hearing the album.

This here is nothing more than a cheap, reactionary tactic put into motion today as a direct attempt to draw attention away from the current success of Geoff Tate's solo career and to preemptively defend against the forthcoming announcements regarding his new Queensryche lineup. This continued mockery of the Queensryche name built and nurtured by Geoff Tate for so many years is nothing short of disrespectful. Folks, please do not be fooled by this "teaser" and do not set your expectations high just yet. Short demos are all that will likely be heard from this band. They aren't signed to a record label and therefore won't be releasing anything any time in the foreseeable future. I suppose they could put some music online for free on the internet, but knowing their greedy tendencies, that isn't a real option.

Stay tuned here and also to the official Queensryche website and Facebook page for more info on Geoff Tate and the rest of the band. Major details will be coming at the end of the month.

Took you long enough, Mish!

Thank you, once again, for your continued humor! "current success of Geoff Tate's solo career..." That was hilarious by all counts. Dive bars, 1800 first week sales and Camp Tate trolling Blabbermouth is "success". I think I just pissed myself with laughter.

I highly doubt Jimbo would have gotten on-board if they were not close to signing with a bigger label than what Geoff is on. I am sure the president of said label is far from happy with the 1800 sales this past week.

Again, thank you for your humor. We all appreciate it.

Queensryche returning to a bigger, heavier sound! This is going to be amazing, AMAZING!!! If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of Kings & Thieves in it's death throes...

NOT well said, Miranda. Success of Tate's solo career? Please provide proof. We'll wait.

1800 copies of his CD sold in the first week is not a "success" no matter how you like to spin it, Miranda.

Uh oh! The Tate camp is scared! After all that talk about how the other guys couldn't write and openly wondering where the music was if it had been suppressed by Tate.....well here ya go. Nice little slap to the face. And sorry, Mish, it really doesn't take much to distract from an album that supposedly only sold 1800 copies. As I said in the other Tate thread today, Steel Panther of all acts sells more records than that (even their live dvd sold more). And their live performances sell far more tickets and draw far more interest around the world. Not to mention the music they write is better than anything Tate has done in 20 years. Maybe Tate was trying to steal some of that thunder with Say U Luv It.

Death to all but metal.

@DMR - well said!

I'd hate to be in Camp Tate today. Queensryche took what little wind they had in their sails (Mish's hot air) and sunk that little ship. Talk about a can of whoopass!

"This continued mockery of the Queensryche name built and nurtured by Geoff Tate for so many years is nothing short of disrespectful."

It seems that there is more positive feedback to these short demos than there are for Kings & Thieves. What's disrespectful is not giving any of the other musicians credit for anything QR has done.

"They aren't signed to a record label and therefore won't be releasing anything any time in the foreseeable future."

Not sure what one has to do with the other. At this point in time you're better off creating your own label and hiring a good distribution company. QR with Geoff basically switched labels for every album (oddly enough since Chris left) so it doesn't seem like they've had good strong relationships with any label since EMI. I'm sure if they put out something a label will pick it up.

They should of sacked Geoff Tate a long time ago if this was the sound Whip was pushing for during the OMII sessions. Some promising stuff in there. Even if it turns out to be an average album, I have no doubt in my mind that it will completely shit on GT's new album, his first one, and everything QR has done since HITNF based on that trailer alone.

Welcome back Queensrÿche \m/!

This was a nice way to start my morning - it put a smile on my face. I was very happy to see a return to a more metal guitar sound, evident even in the demos. With some quality production, thats going to be very satisfying. For me, this seems to be headed in the perfect direction; Enough of the things I loved from the classic ryche, but also something new so that it doesn't sound like a carbon copy. TLT sounds good here too (if a bit loud :) and I'm glad he is using his own voice instead of an approximation of Geoff's. This is exactly what I was hoping the demos for the new album would sound like. Lets hope they follow through.

As for Geoff Tate, best of luck to him with the solo stuff. Not my cup of tea, but obviously the sound he hears in his head. This split is really for the best, and setting aside the IP and money issues, I'm sure both parties will be happier artistically fulfilling their respective musical visions without trying to appease each other.

It's a story problem, so I hope you're going to be OK with this.

If there are 4 shareholders in a company, and they want to fire one shareholder in the company, what percentage of shareholders are left in the company?

So in Mishworld apparently 25% is more than 75%...

In any company, the majority can fire a minority, this is America and that is the way it works. AND the minority after they're fired shouldn't get the rights to go start another company with the same name. Geoff's version of QR is the unlawful version, at least in the eyes of the public.

Sorry your math skills aren't up to par, now go somewhere else and contemplate your sins.

Thank you, Queensryche.

You mean the last decade and a half of albums that featured not only Tate but Rockenfield, Jackson and Wilton? So basically 4/5 of the last decade is returning on this new album but you think that it's going to be 100% different. Who needs the math help now?

If I was listening to these song samples without knowing the artist before hand, Queensryche would not even have been on the list of bands I would have guessed. I think it sounded pretty damn good but I am also disappointed that I did not hear anything that I would call the "classic" QR sound from the first 5 CDs. I would also be on the camp that says this would have been a kickass first release for Rising West but I am not sure what it will do for the QR legacy. With regard to G Tate, I was one of the 1800 who bought the cd (assuming that number includes downloads) but I honestly have not given it a listen yet. From all the bashing, my expectations are vey low so it will be hard to be disappointed. I bought it out of loyalty to what Geoff Tate once meant as one of the greatest vocalists in Metal. Too bad we will never get a chance to hear how these new songs might have sounded with the actual voice of QR at the mike. Make the best with what we've got is all we can do now on both fronts.

...who mentioned Iced Earth as well as others who have noted that this does not sound like Queensryche. It reminds one that there have been very few non-extreme American metal bands that are worth listening to. The overwhelming majority of them are lame and cheesy (Iced Earth, Kamelot, etc.) and appeal to listeners whose only criteria is that the music sound "metal."

...very underwhelming- there‘s a thousand bands that sound like that offering- hard to tell from such randomm samples, but seems very generic, copy and paste formula metal. Hopefully, things will improve. Todds vocal harmonies sound very thin compared to GT.

... say the previewed songs sound nothing like Queensrÿche need to get their ears checked. But then, it's no surprise the few detracting comments here come from Camp Tate supporters and/or employees/family members, who have everything to gain - or so they believe - by detracting Queensrÿche.

What I've heard is definitely metal, it definitely has prog elements that have been lacking for over a decade now, and I've heard some definite nods to the past, from everything between The Warning to Promised Land, but with an updated sound. And these are just raw demos. Jimbo Barton hasn't even started working his magic on them. Imagine what these songs will sound like when he's finished his job. I'm psyched, THIS IS VINDICATION!

Once again, do not buy Taints new album of which I wont give the name because I don't want to give unnecessary promotion. What success is GT having, playing in small clubs and bars...maybe the free drinks is some kinda success for a soon-to-be fullblown alcoholic! Or has Insania sold fore than Kings & Thieves?

The small clip-teaser of the demos, sound more intresting than the stuff QR/GT have put out since 1994. And yes it does not sound like QR a.d 1984-1994 but i think this will sound awesome and be like a QR on steroids 2013.
