New DEFTONES Album Out, Could Be Best Of Band's Career - Nov. 13, 2012
DEFTONES issue their seventh studio album, titled "Koi No Yokan", on Tuesday (November 13). The disc follows up 2010's "Diamond Eyes", the band's biggest hit since 2002's "White Pony", and is already riding a wave of advance critical acclaim. The LA Music Blog called it "the best album from DEFTONES in years and quite possibly the best in their entire career," while Loudwire reported that "if the SMASHING PUMPKINS were heavier, ballsier and angrier, they'd make albums that sound like this."

Frontman Chino Moreno told The Pulse Of Radio that he thinks the new album is a perfect example of what DEFTONES does best. "Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics," he said. "I mean, yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just like, you know, in your face, aggro, the whole time, punching you in the face. There's also this very soothing element where there's, you know, a lot of soundscapes and a lot of outside influences other than just, you know, attack, attack the whole time. I don't know… I really think we meld those things great."

The first single from "Koi No Yokan" is called "Tempest".

The album title is a Japanese term for the moment you know you will fall in love with someone.

The new disc is the second recorded with bassist Sergio Vega filling in for Chi Cheng, who remains in a semi-comatose state as a result of a November 2008 car accident.

DEFTONES are currently on the road in the U.S. and next play in Dallas on Wednesday (November 14), with the tour coming to a close on November 21 in Los Angeles.

lol "2002's White Pony" .. I love the new album, but idk about it topping White Pony or ATF. I do think it goes together as a whole much better than Diamond Eyes does, but then again they just kinda banged out Diamond Eyes.

Great album, but White Pony and Diamond Eyes are better. Probably on par with the self titled and Saturday Night Wrist.

LordPigeon - you are correct - "Great album, but White Pony and Diamond Eyes are better. Probably on par with the self titled and Saturday Night Wrist." on the money...

Though i do like the first 2 albums better than Saturday Night Wrist & the self titled.

> 2002's "White Pony"

White Pony was 2000, not 2002.

Diamond Eyes is really good!! So hard to get people to recognize this when we were drowned with great albums early in their career. I always re-visit entire albums and realize some tunes I liked, are not time tested & some tunes I didn't come around! Back in the day when I was on FB, I used to argue Diamond Eyes was their 3 best!

I am really, really, REALLY digging the new album. Have spun "Goon Squad" a few too many times. I have to have different favorites than most others. The self-titled album was my favorite, probably followed by Saturday Night Wrist (though Diamond Eyes comes close to that).

Not sure how you can determine a Deftones album is better than another. They all kick ass and seem to cover any mood your in. Koi No Yokan does seem like a continuation of Diamond Eyes, in a great way. All I know is there is not a BAD deftness album and each one they put out just means more selections. Just hope it's not 4 years until their next one.

I know most will not agree with me but, their self titled album is my fav. It just really connected with me at the time and still does. Either way, all their albums kick ass.

Their two most recent albums are some of their strongest. As horrible as it is to say, I think losing their bass player in that car wreck was the kick in the ass they needed to start writing above average music again.

Huge Deftones fan, the album is not bad but definitely not their best or even top 3 imo.

White Pony was released in the summer of 2000, not 2002. Anyway, deftones were easily one of my favorite bands in the late 90's and I look forward to picking this album up this week. The return to the Around the fur/ White Pony sound on Diamond Eyes brought me back to the fold.

Been a fan since the beginning. After listening the last few days, I think this could be my favorite Deftones album. No joke. Quite possibly my top favorite album EVER. Cant believe it myself either but we'll see after letting it sink in more. These guys are amazing musicians with tons of character, passion, with a knack for songwriting and production skills.

Before this record, this is where the other albums ranked for me:

Self-Titled
Diamond Eyes
White Pony
Around the Fur
Adrenaline
Saturday Night Wrist

The reason I like Deftones so much is their ability to evolve musically with each album. I certainly don't want to hear the same thing all over again.
When it comes to favorite Deftones album, for me it has to be ATF. Every summer I play the shit out of that record, cause it feels like a perfect summer soundtrack. All the others I like equally, I find something interesting on each one.
