RUSH: Deluxe Editions Of '2112' Detailed - Nov. 12, 2012
In time for 21/12 celebrations, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) will release deluxe editions of RUSH's landmark album "2112" that will feature 5.1 Surround Sound mixes, unreleased live tracks and the first-ever RUSH comic book, available globally starting December 18.

There will be three configurations of "2112": deluxe editions (CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray) and a special super deluxe edition (CD/Blu-ray/hardbound book case). The deluxe editions contain a CD/DVD or CD/Blu-ray material including the remastered "2112" CD with three live bonus tracks and a DVD or Blu-ray disc with a 5.1 Surround Sound audio mix and an interactive digital comic book, a new album cover by original album designer Hugh Syme, liner notes and unpublished photos.

The super deluxe contains the CD/Blu-Ray and is meticulously assembled in a hardbound bookcase packed with a 40-page comic book representing every song on "2112".

For the complete details, visit Rush.com.

"Every album is a point in RUSH's history," Geddy Lee said in 1978. "And if it's not getting better, something's wrong. Every album has to be the perfect RUSH album."

"The first record," Alex Lifeson says about '2112', "where we sounded like RUSH."

Originally released in 1976, RUSH's epic, landmark release "2112" was their creative and commercial breakthrough as well as one of the band's most highly regarded releases among both fans and critics alike. With lyrics written by Neil Peart, and influenced by author Ayn Rand, "2112" kicks off with the ambitious seven-suite title track (side one), set in a futuristic world run by the "Priests Of The Temples Of Syrinx" who regulate "every single facet of every life," which includes books, music, work and play. "2112" conveys the story of humanity's instinctual, inner need for one's free will.

After the mythological journey through "2112", side two brings you back to the present and continues with five stand-alone tracks. From hard-rocking tracks such as "A Passage to Bangkok", "Lessons", and a trip to into the fourth dimension with "The Twilight Zone", to the album's soaring conclusion, "Something For Nothing", "2112" is the album that ushered in the next stage in their continuing evolution as artists.

Classic album at its best. Too bad Geddy can't sing those high notes anymore. Otherwise, they could have performed these classics from beginning to end.

Always wished they played Hemispheres entirely live (after the 90's). They did an excerpt of that on the Counterparts tour. However these high notes are unreachable now. Even Circumstances, which they played on the first leg of a tour recently, they removed from the setlist.

Makes you sad, that once you get older, you won't be able to perform some parts of your catalogue anymore.

...... tank of Helium on the side of the stage and Geddy will sure be able to hit those high notes once again! All kidding aside, I love old Rush, so this is pretty cool news!

Just bought the remastered version of this last year (third time I've bought it....lp, cassette & cd) so I will wait for the price to come down a little, but this should sound excellent in 5.1.....

I think Geddy's voice is deeper, richer and more pleasing to the ear now than it ever was in the '70s.

Losing vocal range always sucks for an aging singer, but Geddy has weathered it with more dignity than most singers (David Coverdale? Joe Elliot?).

The band down-tunes their older material so that Geddy can still sing in a comfortable key without making the entire song sound different.

Compare that with Iron Maiden in the '90s, when Steve Harris refused to down-tune for Blaze Bayley's lower range, and made him sound like an idiot night after night singing songs like The Trooper which he had NO business attempting to sing in Bruce Dickinson's range.

Mr. Riot Act, Rush will get in, finally. Regarding 2112, it is still my opinion that this release is their finest. Yes I realize that many of you Rush fanatics think it is Moving Pictures. I have felt the wrath. Considering where Rush was at the time of 2112's release, they pulled through and made an absolute masterpiece. It saved their career. Amazing work.

Music and a book? Sounds like they've taken care of everything, the words we read, the songs we sing...

Absolute BS. Geddy can hit those notes because Freewill has been in the setlist forever and I've read numerous people claim that the "each of us" line was the highest note he's ever recorded. I think it is more a matter of him hating the way his voice has to sound to sing those songs. No one has been more critical of his voice than Geddy himself, even calling it "cartoon like" in interviews. He probably is much more interested in singing in his presto - counterparts voice for his entire repertoire and if it doesn't work, saying fuck it and not do it than resort to his 70's voice.

2112 is easily in my top 5 from them. Geddy can definately still hit the notes, like that guy said about 'Freewill'.

"...trip into the FOURTH dimension?" I am pretty sure Rodman began every episode by telling us we were entering the FIFTH dimension. I am looking forward to this- not my most fav but definitely the breakthrough record for them.

2112 is the album that started the whole ball rolling for many fans including myself. Hearing it for the first time the reaction (if you liked it) was to buy all the previous records in the back catalog and there you are - a fan for life.
Note to Adveser: Actually, I think the highest notes Geddy ever hit was on the song "No One At the Bridge" on COS. The "bridge" (no pun intended) is where it happens. "Scream out desperation BUT no one there's to hear".
