DEF LEPPARD To Play Entire 'Hysteria' Album During Las Vegas Residency - Nov. 12, 2012
According to USA Today, DEF LEPPARD will play its 1987 album "Hysteria" in its entirety as part of a nine-show residency at the 2,950-capacity The Joint at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, starting at the end of March.

"We're very happy to be part of what I call the first wave of rockers to take Vegas back from the lounge singers — Wayne Newton and his type," says DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott.

"Things like 'Run Riot', 'Don't Shoot Shotgun' and 'Love And Affection' got left by the wayside because of the popularity of other songs that, to be frank, if you don't play them live, you don't get out of the building alive," Elliott adds. "The oddest thing is going to be doing 'Pur Some Sugar On Me' fifth. In many respects, it's like the TROGGS opening with 'Wild Thing'."

"In Las Vegas, you have to give people something they can't see anywhere else," says Bobby Reynolds, vice president of booking at AEG Live.

Viva Hysteria! will begin March 22 and follows Hard Rock residencies from MÖTLEY CRÜE and GUNS N' ROSES.

Tickets go on sale Friday and start at $49.50, with floor seats going for $125.

DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen spoke to Ultimate Classic Rock earlier this year about the possibility of a Las Vegas residency. "We've been talking about this for 10 years, me and Joe Elliott, more than anyone else," he said. "We [would] do [whole albums like] 'Hysteria' or we do 'Pyromania' one night and something like that would be great, but we've just talked about it. Obviously we haven't got it into gear, it would be cool. It's getting the time to do it in a venue; I think that's brilliant MÖTLEY CRÜE doing it."

On August 3, 1987, DEF LEPPARD released the album "Hysteria". Already a major force in rock music, "Hysteria" catapulted the band into the stratosphere. The statistics for "Hysteria" are astounding. The album has sold in excess of 17 million copies and counting. Due to the incredible success of previous album "Pyromania" (released in 1983) and "Hysteria", DEF LEPPARD are one of only five rock groups who can claim two separate original 10-million-plus-selling albums in the U.S. The others are THE BEATLES, LED ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD and VAN HALEN. The "Hysteria" album also spawned seven hit singles! Enormous hits such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Armageddon It" and "Rocket" are rock staples that still enjoy huge popularity today and have helped make DEF LEPPARD Britain's greatest ever arena rock band. The album remains DEF LEPPARD's best loved.

That's enough to keep me away. Let me know when they do High and Dry.

I've always been shocked that AC/DC never got into this category. I know Back in Black has sold more than 10M, but I've always been surprised that For Those About to Rock never did, because I think it is as good if not better than Back in Black. Anyone know how many copies it’s sold?

I know on this site "Hysteria" will get a lot of bad reviews from people, but the album was a change in the marketplace of how albums were put together, produced and played. I truly love this album because of how they recorded the tracks, alot of time and effort and how Rick Allen brought an entire new drum sound which is a typical sound nowadays but back then it was new and different. And how he had to overcome the obstacle of relearning how to play.

I feel it's overproduced. Go back and listen to "On Through the Night"; it's much more raw and "live" sounding and I think they'd have more respect in the rock community if they'd continued with that type of recording sound.

They should play the first two DL records during this, and get rid of that little girl POS vivian.

If I'm in Vegas, the last fucking thing I'm spending $125 on, is Def Leppard.

it is a studio creation, bot it still sounds amazing. And it is pop metal, so what. And yes I would rather hear High n Dry. And please Phil grow your hair and put a shirt on. You still will be healthy, but your cool factor will return. Good luck DL.

Since when are they playing Vegas? First GN'R now DL. Motley Crue really started a new thing here. Hysteria is a classic album, although not my favorite from them, that's High 'N' Dry.

Agree that High N Dry live would be great, but would anyone in their current audience even know those tunes??

Hysteria is 10x better than High & Dry. Don't even try and argue that one. Ask 10 fans of Def Lep if they know any song other than 'Heartbreak' from H&D. I'd bet 25% tops knows another one, and that's it.

Why shouldn't they be playing Vegas? It's the carnation of the band that's been together for 20 years. Not Joe Elliott and some hacks from YouTube or 4 guys that have been playing the same boring ass setlist since 1989.

But I do agree-a dress code with shirts on needs to be applied to Phil and Viv.

Gods of War is an awesome song.

High N Dry + Pyromania live would be better though.

On Through The Night is just not a great album in comparison.

No Mutt = no DL.

You are correct about "Gods of War". Coolest song on the album. It's funny how Mutt made them piece together every song note by fuckin' note, and Leppard went along with it. You KNOW Mutt couldn't pull that shit with AC/DC. Angus and Malcolm would've either Killed or Fired him. LOL
