KORN Guitarist: 'We Have 15 New Songs Written' - Nov. 8, 2012
Sammi Chichester of Revolver magazine recently conducted an interview with KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Revolver: How and when did [your side project] FEAR AND THE NERVOUS SYSTEM come together?

Munky: We started in 2008. It was really just me trying to get into the studio and write some songs. KORN had taken a bit of a break and my dad was in really bad health and so I just wanted to get into the studio and stay busy. It was my way of dealing with it. I didn't have songs. I had a few ideas so I started hiring musicians

Revolver: How do you know Billy Gould from FAITH NO MORE and Brooks Wackerman from BAD RELIGION, and why have they phased out from the band?

Munky: I hired these guys, you know? And they also did it as a favor. KORN has worked with Brooks Wackerman when we did the [2007] Untitled album. I remember thinking when I did want to get a project going, I wanted to have him involved. These guys are still into this which is great because they weren't able to tour with me because of their schedules. Brooks is with BAD RELIGION and TENACIOUS D. Billy is with another project he has called THE TALKING BOOK. I hope to make a record with these guys again.

Revolver: With KORN vocalist Jonathan Davis busy with his electronic music, and you busy with this band, what is the future of KORN?

Munky: We have 15 new KORN songs written, which is really cool. I mean, they're not complete songs, but we are in the process of finding a producer and trying to find the right balance of what we want with these songs, how to present them. We have massive choruses and we have riff sections. We're kind of waiting for Jonathan to put lyric ideas on them so we can move into the recording process.

Read the entire interview from Revolver magazine.

Ughh...they should really stop making new music, and let it be. Your main songwriter is no longer in the band, you're new drummer looks like a goof (although he's a good drummer) and your last album was shameful. Head and Dave need to be in the band in order to put out anything worth listening to by Korn..

Why couldn't they do us all a favour and pull an 'N Flaymes and have nothing written for a new release?

Please, please do not make any new music. The world is in a bad enough place right now. No way could it handle this.

Stop the madness

What constitutes a "song" in munky's eyes? This is a guitarist who cannot write a riff to save his soul. Head was the riff writer. All Munky can do is write the odd weird note and squeak a little here and there.

If it wasn't for Jonathan Davis, there would be no Korn at all. He is the only valuable member these days. At least he kind of tries, and comes up with the odd cool melody hook.

So, wait a minute, Brooks Wackerman from Bad4Good is in Bad Religion now?

Weird.

you mean Brooks Wackerman, the drum god from Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies, that Bad Religion stole.

No Head, No Korn.

Scrap all of those 15 "songs", go play your show with Head, and then get him in the studio and write a real Korn album.

Unless you do that, Korn is on the way down, Head is on the way up. Coz his shit actually is heavy.
