MARDUK's 'Souls For Belial' Single Certified Gold In Sweden - Nov. 7, 2012
The "Souls For Belial" single from Swedish black metallers MARDUK was certified gold in Sweden by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 10,000 copies.

"Souls For Belial" was exclusively distributed in Sweden via the April 2012 issue of Sweden Rock Magazine and each copy of the magazine containing the CD was counted towards the certification; the single itself was **not** sold separately.

"Souls For Belial" will be released as limited-edition vinyl single in early 2013.

MARDUK's twelfth album, "Serpent Sermon", sold around 800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 44 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

MARDUK's previous CD, "Wormwood", opened with around 650 units to enter the Heatseekers chart at No. 99.

"Serpent Sermon" was made available as standard CD, vinyl and limited-edition media book with an exclusive bonus track entitled "Coram Satanae".

Marduk certainly deserves gold, but actually the whole merit goes to the magazine.

If that single would be sold separately, 200 pressed copies would probably be enough to meet the demand.

Marduk = Total Sellouts. May as well go on tour with Nickelback!

It's kind of a clever way to get "sales" and chart positions though. Bands should start giving their whole album out with magazines. God knows they aren't selling them anyway. At least they get their name out there and get some recognition. It would boost sagging magazine sales too.

Watain did the same earlier.

The merit goes to the magazine, obviously. The band has no merits other than supplying a copy of their album for each copy of the magazine sold. It's a good trick to add some media coverage and give your band some more status before releasing a new album and going on tour, nothing else.
