GILLAN's 'Glory Road' Remembered In New App And eBook - Nov. 5, 2012
A new one-dollar app and eBook tell the story of the making of GILLAN's 1980 album "Glory Road".

One could call GILLAN's blustery, heart-racing rock on a clock style a somewhat weird spot of chicanery plaguing and baiting the wider (and younger) NWOBHM exploding around them.

Author Martin Popoff explains: "In a cheeky mood, I've been known to call GILLAN my favorite band of all time, given the insane charm of all six of their albums, the guys burning it out before they could screw up (just like another one of my fave raves, Max Webster).

"This dollar 'print single' app can be considered a canned history of a band seldom talked about in detail, so I'm particularly proud to unleash it upon all you like-minded ancient metal lovers.

"GILLAN... man, they were a cross between DEEP PURPLE and TYGERS OF PAN TANG, weren't they? With a crazy circus organist chucked on top, one who helped write a lot of the songs. Unfortunately, Colin Towns wouldn't talk to me, but the irrepressible Ian Gillan did, as did Bernie Tormé and John McCoy. Surprised to see I didn't include any of my chat with drummer Mick Underwood in here, but you'll see him in the future, when I get around to giving you the story of 'Future Shock', follow-up to our current concern 'Glory Road', which is the third album for these punk metal nutters gone newobbim..."

Ye Olde Metal: Gillan's Glory Road is available as a 25-page eBook in high-resolution PDF format from www.zunior.com and as an app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in the iTunes App store.

Y&T's "Black Tiger", MOTÖRHEAD's "Overkill", WHITESNAKE's "Ready An' Willing" and BAD COMPANY's "Desolation Angels" are also available as apps and eBooks in the Ye Olde Metal single-album series.

Why can't Ian or the powers that be give this album the real deluxe treatment it deserves? The so-called remastered version that has been circulating for the last ten years was a joke as they didn't even access the masters. ( someone confirmed this who knows where the masters are) "Repertiore" is the only company who put out a very short- run of a few of the Gillan albums and did a fairly decent job ("Future Shock" and the Budokan albums) They abandoned the project before doing Glory Road. Come on release a REAL version! Talk about remix potential! This is a great album but has no power in the mix!

Those first 3 Gillan records are all classic. Mr. Universe, this one and Future Shock.
