GEOFF TATE: Barrington Fan-Filmed Video Footage Available - Nov. 2, 2012
Fan-filmed video footage of QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate's November 1 solo performance at Penny Road Pub in Barrington, Illinois can be seen below.

Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June after fronting the group for three decades, will release his second solo album, "Kings & Thieves", on November 6 via InsideOut Music.

Tate issued his first solo CD in 2002 on Sanctuary Records. Self-titled, the LP was a huge departure from the work he had previously done with QUEENSRŸCHE.

On September 2, Tate announced that he was launching his own version of QUEENSRŸCHE with RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer, former QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE bassist Rudy Sarzo and former MEGADETH and KING DIAMOND guitarist Glen Drover. Also on board in the new group are returning QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Kelly Gray — who played with the band from 1998 until 2001 and also produced several of their albums — and keyboardist Randy Gane, who has toured and recorded with QUEENSRŸCHE and Geoff's solo group in the past.

to start picking apart the musicianship in this rag tag bar band would be too much work. I wouldn't know where to begin. The drummer is wrecking the beat on Bridge by holding it too slow. The groove is gone. The guitar solos on this and the other songs are fucking horrible...not even close to wilton or degarmo on any solo. His singing is barely listenable, and this was a vocal god up until maybe 1995.

Just horrible. I feel sorry for them. It is SO embarrassing.

mishmash is gonna come on here and tell you that this is the Tate solo band interpretation of Bridge... Tate is trying to give the audience his solo interpretation of this song.. something metalheads can't understand.. If we would only just let him enlighten us all... we just can't get it

Backing vocals are horrible. Kelly Gray is a complete disaster on guitar, and you'd think he'd be playing a higher end guitar than a budget LTD Viper. That orchestration in the first verses of Silent Lucidity are ok at first but then kills the transition into the chorus as far as dynamics. Know when to say when on that. And my god, who's that guitar player butchering the solo to SL? Horrible. It's called vibrato dude, look into it.

This isn't Tate's worst performance of late by any means but then these clips are of material that's not a challenge to his current diminished range.

But yeah, these guys sound like your garden variety bar band, not even worthy of the good QR tribute bands out there that would blow these guys away.

I think i'd actually prefer the vest to the black tank top that he obviously borrowed from Susan.

I'm on the Tate side but I do agree the band is all over the place. It's not very good. I still believe Tate is a great singer but I can't wait for his new line-up of QR because Sarzo and Drover are at least great musicians. But at least they seems to have fun on stage, and it's only rock and roll, bring back the vest! btw I love his new solo album, it's not as bad as some people try to say it is.

You can indeed see that the entire band is having a good time together and enjoying themselves. This is most important. While the performance isn't perfect, the band is still able to convey the spirit and emotion of the music to the live audience and that makes for a satisfying show.

Kings & Thieves really is an excellent album. I'm glad you're enjoying as much as I am.

Kelly gray. Originally fired for being an alcoholic back after q2k. One of the destructors of queensryche after at least three attempts a producing or writing for the band. On live evolution, at least he had some abilities (mind you he kind of wrecked degarmo solos in some songs). after watching several clips, this guy is absolutely washed up, sloppy as hell, and disrespectful of the original material. So is the old man on the strat. I could hire a hundred local metal bar bands in my city that could play QR songs better.

It's been well documented that Kelly Gray has had his demons in the past. However, he has since turned his life around and is moving forward with a positve outlook on the future. The support of his longtime friend and musical collaborator, Geoff Tate, has contributed to this. Personal issues aside, Kelly Gray is a fine musician and in fact co-wrote many of the songs being performed on this tour. Show some respect.

2) Kelly Gray seems to be sloppier than back when he was in QR, which was already bad. He butchers every QR song they played in the above clips.
3) Quite the impressive venue Geoff is playing. Well done sir :|.

Tate range. They won't dare play Suite Sister or Queen of the Ryche. Mishmash will say.. of course not, it's the solo band. But he still playssome of the Q-ryche songs. They are just carefully picked to fit his non-range now.

Don't get my wrong.. I still get goosebumps listening to 1984 Tate. But I dont understand this in any way.

BWOOD, it has nothing to do with his singing range. The songs are selected primarily based on how well they fit in with the rest of the set - of which his solo material is the main focus. He still included songs that require an impressive vocal range such as "The Killing Words" and "Eyes of a Stranger".

Please look forward to next year's Queensryche tour if you are only interested in hearing the songs you mentioned.

Is this whole thing a fucking gag ?

Is Geoff Tate making fun of the "losers" who pay to hear him sing Queensryche after all these years ?

Those long winded song intros were really painful to listen to ...

I was waiting for him to go punch someone in the audience.

The funniest part was imagining this guy beating the shit out of half of Queensryche , I mean, what does that make THEM ?

LMFAO !

Jesus Christ this queensryche thing is fucking funny, way better than any of their music...

I saw them open for Twisted Sister at the Paradise in Boston in 1983 and Dee Snider rendered them instantly forgettable after two minutes on stage.....You Can't Stop Rock & Roll...indeed !

In the not-so-distant past, these little club gigs are the kinds of performances a band might do to warm up to the performances that would actually get press coverage. Sometimes they would even perform under a surname (ie. Vic & the Rattleheads were usually Megadeth, etc).

Now, with the advent of phones that take high definition video, any performance, no matter how insignificant or developmental, will get posted on a site and critiqued by hundreds of thousands of people.

Bottom line is I wouldn't read a whole lot into these smaller performances by the "The Voice of Queensryche" one way or the other. They've been playing together only for a few weeks, so obviously they're still ironing stuff out.

And one more note to Mr. Gray - BEND the guitar string on the solo to Silent Lucidity. It makes a difference!

Excuses excuses. All those bands doing warm up gigs in small clubs were also a thousand times better than Geoff Tates band of hacks. So what if they have only been together a few weeks? If they were professional musicians that wouldn't be a problem. They're not "ironing stuff out", they just plain suck! And to say these performances don't matter one way or the other when he's supposed to be promoting his solo album with this tour is kind of pathetic. Most musicians think that EVERY performance matters!

I have great respect for Tate's work 20 years ago done collaboratively with the other members of Queensrche. The change was needed, and probably long over due. I can only guess that with long time friendships and band history, firing Geoff was the most difficult professional decision they had ever made. Tate doesn't look good. I'm approaching 50, so I know how weight creeps up, and living a disciplined life that includes exercise is important. Hope we don't see a messed up reality show, dependency/addiction/rehab issues, and tragic end like some now deceased stars (Anna Nicole). Best path forward is to end the litigation, accept the firing, take time off and re-evaluate were he should go from here. Dealing with such a change in your 50s can't be easy. However, his actions did bring the consequences, he has to accept that reality. Ditch the eye liner, get some quality wardrobe help, get strong physically, emotionally, and mentally. Then start a new path, with a rested voice and renewed energy with a new band name. Little chance he will do those things. But I would like Queensryche to be successful with killer new material, and Tate successful with solo or new band material. Hell, with Tate's career long fascination with theatric shows, he might be happier in the theater. Not being a smart ass, just some thoughts.

It would be better for him to stop and not make a fool of himself. I agree with TexasMetHead in all he says.

An interview with Dokken and Eddie Trunk about this. Dokken toured with them a few years ago and said this is no surprise. Trunk said the insiders he's spoken with also saw it going down this way for years.

"blistering album"...ha ha ha ha

which of Tate's 4 daughters are you? I hope you are the young one that sang that song on American Soldier, so I can tell you that "YOU SUCK. " That was so bad that the producer had to autotune the shit out of it to try and make it listenable. But it wasn't!

And yes I agree. Queensryche forever! (QR 2.0, and vintage QR)

p.s. why are you cheering for the band that fired your daddy?

Seriously dude...the imagargy sloshing around in you're skull. You sound like a fucking paedophile. What the fuck puts those images in there? I'm glad you don't like it, I don't want to have anything in common with you.

Saskmetal- we've been through this before. GT might have a big family, but pretty sure he's not my Dad...wrong country, wrong generation.

If Kings and Theives didn't have the Queensryche "baggage" and people listened to it without ANY preconceptions, they'd rate it higher.

I've said before, I'll buy BOTH camps' stuff, but the more people hate on Tate, the less tolorant I become and it actually puts me off the other 'Ryche cos I don't want to be in the same camp as people with a narrow musical perspective and frankly, a lot of disturbing, mentally challenged assholes.

wow...I forgot robotbaby that you are one of the only true Tate fans, even after all this soap opera. Apologies. You are truly on in a million. Kind of like spotting a snowy owl in the daylight.

...shut up.
That it. Thats all Ive got left.
I‘d love to have a proper crtitque about the Rise and Fall...and Rise of Queensryche, but from maby of the comments above, I fear that this is not the forum to do that.
I feel like my parents just broke up...and if so...I won‘t hate my “Dad“.

Should I really show some respect to Kelly Gray? Last year when Dedicated to Chaos came out, he got on Facebook and threatened to shoot anybody who had negative criticism of the album. Shoot them, with a GUN!

I am honest when I say that he doesn't look like he's playing guitar so much as he is having a wrestling match with the instrument. His tone is bad, his phrasings are lazy and you can tell he is only there for a paycheck.
