TRIVIUM Frontman On U.S. Presidential Election: 'Never Before Has The Country Been This Divided - Nov. 2, 2012
Dennis Rowehl of Entertaim.net magazine conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM prior to the band's October 28 concert in Cologne, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked about the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Heafy said, "The trick with America is that it's completely divided. It's so right and so left and there's nothing in the middle ground. So never before has the country been this divided. And it's really upsetting, the fact that people don't really look into either side. People don't really look into what a president truly is 100 percent about; they just look at what the [party affiliation] is. They're like, 'Oh, I'm a Republican, so I'm only gonna vote Republican.' Or, 'I'm a Democrat, so I'm only gonna vote Democrat.' Sometimes the person you're voting for is the person maybe that won't represent you as well or that goes against your belief just out of some kind of underlying need to call yourself something. America is just so obsessed with that. We've got… Look at the airline [industry]. We've got First Class, Premier Business, Business this, Economy Plus, Economy… all these different subsections of class systems that we have, and I feel like it's the same thing with politics. A lot of people in the States rip on Obama for 'You haven't done enough,' but how do you clean up eight years of what just happened in half the amount of time. So it's a really difficult thing for the country. And our fans are divided; it's amazing that they are. I sent in my absentee ballot vote, and I just always hope for the better. It just sucks how divided the U.S. is right now. If we didn't have the Democrat and Republican system and people can just say, 'This is what I'm gonna do for the country. These are my beliefs. Vote for me or not,' I think it would work out a lot better versus people having to cling to the 'Well, I only vote in my party, regardless of what the person says.' I think the country would be in a much better place."

TRIVIUM is currently touring Europe with AS I LAY DYING, CALIBAN and UPON A BURNING BODY.

TRIVIUM's latest album, "In Waves", sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart — the highest U.S. chart entry of the band's career.

Don't forget the Axl Rose/Vince Neil feud of the late '80s, early '90s. That was by far the most divided this nation has ever been.

I'm more worried about whether or not we'll learn anything from this or if it's just going to reinforce the division. Chances are the latter, people never learn, they just invent new ways to fuck up.

This guy is 26 years old. How can he even speak about history when he's barely experienced any at all?

It's obvious he parroting liberal talking points, with his "8 years" comment. George W. Bush didn't cause the housing bubble and recession, just like Bill Clinton didn't cause the dot com bubble and 2001 recession. Learn something besides the brainwashing from your teachers and professors, the mainstream media, and Hollywood.

The hope is not in a republican or democrat. The hope is that the people of the country recognize their common ground and demand accountability for the country's present and future. Corporations and politicians have been feasting on their successful division of the people for their own self interest. End of story.

A vote for the Dems or Reps is a vote stolen from a more deserving third party candidate.

Stop this "I JUST GOTTA PICK THE WINNER!!" crap and vote outside the box.

Thie current president likes to point fingers at Bush for everyhting. If we did away with term limits altogether and allowed Obama to be president for 5 consecutive terms; in the year 2032 when America was basically a collapsed 3rd world poverty, he'd still say, "we never recovered from the george bush years" Bush wasnt perfect but at least he kept us safe from terrorism much better than these current clowns

george didnt cause 9/11 that was osbamba bin laden. I agree both rep and dem parties are heavily flawed, and I dont really support either, but I have more confidence with a george w as commander in chief than an Obumba who has zero politcial experience and goes on talk shows like a hollywood celeb. Im all for an African American prez, but this current prez does not have economic leadership to get us out of this recession.

Right, a ghetto. Last I checked we added 171,000 new jobs this month, that adds to the 5 MILLION created during his term. How many jobs were we creating when the Republicans left office? Oh, that's right, we lost 524,000 that month. Let's go back!

What-fucking-ever. The political spectrum in the US is so narrow it is disgusting. Shades of right is what it is. And as far as being democratic... America is like every other state in the world, it is an authoritarian system. The only thing is, you give people the illusion of consent and participation to placate them... meanwhile the whole show is run by capitalist interests that pull the strings of a puppet... er, I mean president. Wake the fuck up! Voting is for idiots. The solution? Direct action!!!

when they did the re-make of star wars---in the 90s

when they changed the movie --to where han had to get shot by greedo first---

that is when the communist msm/"political correctness" started--

han knew in the story he was threatened---it was obvious
---
but communists use faithlessness in humanity--as an excuse to try to judge people as " animals"

this is an excuse to use fear to try to take power from citizens
---
han knew---the audience knew///

but bill clinton wanted to fuck with star wars--as an exercise in u.n tyranny against art

Well, when you consider that the country hasn't been this worse for wear since the Great Depression it only makes sense that everyone's divided! Unfortunately, most people are wasting their energy and misdirecting their hate.

Both major party candidates are pro-PATRIOT Act
Both major party candidates are pro-bailouts
Both major party candidates are pro-NDAA
Both major party candidates are pro-SOPA

Vote Gary Johnson in 2012!
