GUNS N' ROSES Kicks Off Las Vegas Residency; Video Footage Available - Nov. 1, 2012
GUNS N' ROSES launched its first-ever residency in Las Vegas last night (Wednesday, October 31) at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Each night, the band is performing an electrifying show featuring a setlist created exclusively for The Joint. Appetite For Democracy spans the band's biggest hits from their debut album "Appetite For Destruction" (1987) through their platinum-selling record "Chinese Democracy" (2008).

The setlist for last night's concert was as follows:

01. Chinese Democracy
02. Welcome To The Jungle
03. It's So Easy
04. Mr. Brownstone
05. Estranged
06. Better
07. New Richard Fortus Solo
08. Live And Let Die
09. This I Love
10. Rocket Queen
11. Motivation
12. Dizzy Reed Solo
13. Street of Dreams
14. You Could Be Mine
15. Ballad of Death (DJ Ashba solo)
16. Sweet Child O' Mine
17. Another Brick In The Wall (Jam)
18. November Rain
19. Glad To Be Here (Bumblefoot Solo)
20. Don't Cry
21. Don't Let It Bring You Down (NEIL YOUNG cover)
22. Civil War
23. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
24. Jam/Nightrain

Encore:

25. Jam/Madagascar
26. Patience
27. Paradise City

Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.

GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose told USA Today in a new interview that the band's 2008 album "Chinese Democracy" took so long to complete — 13 years, to be exact — because he was being mentally abused by former members Slash and Duff McKagan during the initial songwriting stage.

Rose explained, "[Slash and McKagan] did more damage to my ability as a writer . . . It beat me down so much. At the time of the ['Use Your Illusion'] tours, Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on 'Chinese' took a long time."

Rose said that the success of the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", was what began to tear the group apart. He explained, "I thought the success of that record would bring everyone together more. It did the exact opposite. They got success and wanted to run in their own directions."

Slash had his own take on what happened in the band, as he told The Pulse Of Radio a while back. "Something with Axl was very insecure and it just kept the band from sort of functioning properly," he said. "Although he was wanting to do things, I never to this day really understand exactly what he was getting at, and because it took so long to ever get anything done, I always attribute it to some sort of fear factor."

On the inevitable question of whether he could ever make peace with his former bandmates, Rose said, "I feel that ball's not in my court. I'm surviving this war, not the one who created this war."

Rose said that the current edition of GUNS, in which he is the sole original member, is writing music for a follow-up to "Chinese Democracy", hinting, "[The next album] will come out sooner."

I was in an auditorium and all of a sudden Slash got up and walked over and made up with Axl. Then they walked out backstage or something and was understood they would jam together.

I hate this band, did since the beginning, most overrated ever band and musicians. Sounds to me like verbal abuse; sounds to me like anyone into elephants has potential to be a bully...

Axl Rose was and is still suffering from LSD (Lead Singer's Disease).

Axl met with his accountants and worked out how much money he would need to net in order to maintain a certain level of lifestyle until he died. He had them break it down from albums sales, radio play, investments, and touring. The Vegas gig is happening so to bring the figures that he gave them to a level that he can accomplish his financial goals. He has no intention of touring or recording after those objectives are met. Anything he does from this point forward is only to set himself up to live his life alone without having to answer to anyone ever again.

Keep re-writing that history, Axl. Nothing is ever your fault.

Axl is such a nutjob. I don't think that story is going to fly, Axl. When everybody in the band, including observations from everybody else that was around including guys like Lonn Friend (who was very close to your band), has the same story except you.......then you're the one with the skewed perspective.

Maybe Axl and Geoff Tate should start a band. They'd seem to be on the same plane of delusion and could probably co-exist pretty well by leaning on eachother and blaming everybody else for their problems.

...whatever that intro music was, it was fucking great , hope it makes it to the new album as a fully formed song.

NOT ONE SONG put out by any of the old Guns , on any of their solo albums or VR albums, I'M TALKING ANY PIECE OF MUSIC RECORDED SINCE 1994 (!!!) , .....was as cool, and epic, and as musically interesting as the fucking INTRO MUSIC Axl uses before opening with Chinese Democracy......

chew on that one for a while motherfuckers

PS: Love the Neil Young cover they've been doing, hope they release it at some point anlong with an entire album of all the classic rock cover songs they've been doing in concert the past few years

PS2: so how do the Chinese Democracy songs sound NOW ?, a few years after they've seeped into our minds ? To me, they sound epic as any classic rock I've ever heard, absolutely as great as any Guns n Roses song with the original lineup

PS3: Guns n Roses are the new Deep Purple/Steely Dan...get the fuck over it !

Axl's band is the greatest Rock&Roll band in the world and they are called Guns n Roses

It's pretty much the same setlist as always. Even when Motley Crue played they changed it up. Also didn't know "Live and Let Die" was an original of GN'R. Thought Paul McCartney played that one, like Neil Young plays "Don't Let It Bring You Down".

Give me a break Its a sad day when Axl continues to throw Slash his ex gf from like 20 years ago, and Duff under the bus, especially after Duff supported him and showed nothing but respect and integrity, on playing some shows w Axl and GN'R these past years. He also did not throw Axl under the bus or point fingers in his book. Sorry but everyone I talk to says, don't waste your money on the new GN'R concert (comes with very dated 80's video footage, and Axl bloated rocking his cheesy true religion jeans hesher style) For the record ALL 5 guys wrote the original songs people are showing up for! Thats it

Ya know, I would really be able to respect this band a lot more if it was called "Axl Rose" or something denoting it a solo act.

The original lineup of Guns made some iconic records that will go down as all-time greats in rock - Period. The new lineup - no matter who they are - just do not pass muster. If Axl would call this a solo act (which it IS), I could process it a lot better.

This reminds me of when Tony Iommi did "7th Star" as the only original member. You can't really say it was a great record, but it wasn't a great Black Sabbath record - and he tarnished Sabbath's legacy (if only it had stopped there!).

No one gives a shit about Chinese Democracy. Is it on the radio? All the glory Guns/Axl is getting to this day is because of what the original lineup did. End of story. I hope Axl is writing checks.
