SAMMY HAGAR: 'I Like Playing Music For Free' - Oct. 26, 2012
Legendary rocker Sammy Hagar (CHICKENFOOT, ex-VAN HALEN) recently spoke to CNBC about music, tequila, and his Beach Bar Rum. Check out the chat below.

Hagar is continuing to record and tour with CHICKENFOOT, which also features ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith.

That group has just reissued its gold-selling 2009 self-titled debut as a double-disc set. The new version features bonus live tracks recorded on the group's recent tour behind its sophomore studio effort, "III".

No, I seen him in '99 when he was doing his "An Evening With..." Tour. No tickets were available for purchase, the only way to get them was win them through a radio station (which was handing them out hand over fist).

And I gotta tell you, one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've been to over 300 concerts). It was in a theater, stage looked like a bar and had contest winners on it, Sammmy was handing out tequila shots to the audience, signing autographs during guitar solos, he played all his hits (Solo, Montrose, Van Halen) and the whole night the whole vibe was have fun, have a good time. It felt like Sammy was genuinely having the time of his life. And that feeling washed out over the audience.

As rock stars go, Sammy gets it. Play music, party, have fun. Its what every kid who aspires to be a rock star wants. Sammy's living it.

The difference between Sammy and most rockers of his status? He's not pissed away all his earnings over the years and he's not an egotistical asshole.

Sammy f'n rules! \m/

Im not a fan of his solo music or his VH music but I love his Montrose stuff and he's 1 of the very few singers from that era that still has his voice, he also seems like a real cool guy

... he's 65, has probably well over 100 mil in the bank between the Cabo deal and everything else, and could sit on the beach for the rest of his life if he wants. Instead, he keeps playing and looking for different things to do (Chickenfoot, the collaboration with Billy Duffy, etc.).

Hate all you want, but he is living the life every musician wishes they could have. Total freedom.

Saw him free at the Fair about 3 years ago. Great show!!! He gave 125% and would have played all night. Wish all bands enjoyed themselves that much on stage.
