GUNS N' ROSES Frontman Interviewed On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'; Video Available - Oct. 25, 2012
GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose took part in his first sit-down, live television broadcast interview in more than 20 years last night (Wednesday, October 24) on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". You can now watch his appearance in three parts below.

The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" interview was another in a series of firsts for the celebrated GUNS N' ROSES frontman, who will spend this fall at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for a 12-night run of shows. The historic "Appetite For Democracy" residency will run October 31 through November 24.

Rose's first broadcast interview in years aired on November 11, 2011 via VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show", which devoted its full hour to the interview and the preparations for it. The talk took place at 5:30 a.m. following GUNS' performance on October 29, 2011 in Miami.

Axl Rose skipped GUNS N' ROSES' induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April and declined to be inducted along with the rest of the group. The singer also reaffirmed that there is no chance of the original lineup reuniting, and seemed to speak directly to fans still hoping for a reunion when he added, "Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense."

In at least a partial nod to his former bandmates, however, Rose wrote, "For the record, I would not begrudge anyone from GUNS their accomplishments or recognition for such. Neither I or anyone in my camp has made any requests or demands of the Hall Of Fame. It's their show, not mine."

Original GN'R members Slash, Steven Adler and Duff McKagan, along with later members Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke, performed three songs at the induction ceremony in Cleveland. They were joined on vocals by Myles Kennedy, who sings in Slash's solo band.

In addition sole original member Axl Rose, the current lineup of GUNS N' ROSES includes guitarists Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Richard Fortus and DJ Ashba, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.

No one seems to care that he's the only member of Guns N Roses in Guns N Roses. What about Slash & the rest of the original band?
And why is he on this talk show?
I would think all the hype to the Vegas shows, with the Vegas drinks and the Vegas cheques are selling the tickets to the shows.
Guess not enough.

Perhaps you've been in a coma for the last 20 years - or are just really fucking stupid. Slash and the rest of the original members haven't been in GNR in decades. The people in the band now are the members of Guns & Roses today in 2012.

Seriously - wake up.

/\ you fucking wake up, nobody gives a shit about hired guns n roses, the classic lineup is the one that made THE GOOD MUSIC, so it's not weird to wonder how this more or less unrelated band is getting away with using the name.

I've said that all along. Not knocking Axl or GnR, but the average rock fan in 2012 don't know GnR is out on tour, don't know the members. Just the hard core fans, Blabbermouth types. Just ask around, ask a casual rock fan, they don't know or care. That comes with making one record in 20 years and doing very little promotion(not that he should if he doesn't want to).

as far as being a nice guy now, he used to be great in interviews, in most cases. He was personable when he wanted. He wasn't brooding. He had a reputation for being very generous with his fans at times. (from accounts). he also had the reputation for being the polar opposite. all the trappings of a manic depressive, or whatever his mental illness he had/has...I'm sure he's matured a lot now anyhow.

Get over it, the old lineup hasnt been there in over 15 years. Axl Rose has ALWAYS been the moniker for Guns N Roses, he is and always will be GNFNR. The constant lineup change is nothing new, they went through several players before Appetite even came out, and that classic lineup essentially only were together for recordings over 6 to 7 years. Considering they have been around for over 25 I think the old lineup argument is now longer valid. So get the fuck over it.

Is it me, or is it with major bands (kiss, metallica, slayer, iron maiden, gnr) that people just jump on the message board to start creating a fuzz? I am getting old, Blabbermouth is kindergarten...

How come criticizing Axl's bullshit makes you a "Slash fanboy"? There were 3 other members in the original band. Maybe I'm an Izzy fanboy? Or a Duff fanboy. Or maybe I like BANDS and not dillusional frontmen that act like Howard Hughes on crack.

I'm aware of the current scab line up but my point was I bet most of the audience didn't until he mentioned it. I think it's sad he's got to hype himself on talk shows to sell tickets in the US because his new music just isn't selling here. I would think a trolling spellchecking homebound woman such as yourself would have understood "better".

You fanboys keep telling people to "get over it", but its you lot that need to get over the fact that people only give a shit about the classic lineup, because that's when the band was GOOD. You can keep your brand loyalty

Wow a guy does his first mainstream interview since 1992 and people accuse him of trying to hype himself. I'm pretty sure 100% of other musical acts performing today do more than that.

And he looks pretty small to me, don't know what everyone else is watching. He is 50+ years old and has $200 million or something and doesn't have to work or leave the house if he doesn't want to. Most people would probably be a gigantic fat ass in that situation.

Entertaining clip. That's all it is supposed to be.

This guy needs to do his book, I bet the best stories are in his memory or the people around him can reconstruct the days of wild abandon. Interview revealed how genuine he is. Not many artists point to their influences, always like to hear what artists I enjoy listen to.

@BSlash24- You really need to stop with whatever agenda you have to represent yourself as "neutral" with SLASH in your screenname for what 4 years? Bizarre and WHY?

Most everyone that I know cares about this band and when they come to town in NYC people are aware and interested.
Axl Rose is known to be really attentive to fans and liked by everyone who meets him. Only in Blabberworld does he seems to be held up to impossible criticism yet his band is outstanding live, possibly the best rock band touring of late.

you're quite whiny. Read my post, I didn't put down your precious hero. I actually commend him for not whoring himself.

yeah, I'll keep changing my screen name for you? I'll do it when you do. How many years are you on that screenname? Who said "neutral". you did. not me. Do I have to pick a side on every different issue? Or be neutral? odd. Not everything's black and white.

that's great Axl has a solid hard core fan base. Not doubting that. But you have blinders on if you don't realize many go to the show because the name "GnR", not knowing or probably caring who's in the band. No? don't be foolish...the band plays the hits like the record. that's great. along with 3 keyboard solos, 3 guitar solos, etc? Its a tribute band. Best touring band out there, you really need to go see more bands. Lots of great music out there.

They had maybe two albums worth of good material. One album that was legendary and a double CD release with one album's worth of good material. They get way to much attention because they had some big radio and video hits, but as far as a tried and true band with consistent good releases; it's not them. Appetite for Destruction is one of the best rock albums ever, but GNR and Slash and the rest are completely irrelevant now. I do think it's cool that most artists tell the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to F off. Maybe they will get the hint. Rock and Roll is not about some stupid Hall of Fame. It's about the music.

Why Axl doesn't do more media. The few times in the last 15 years or so he has, he comes off great. He slaved over Chinesse Democracy and did zero to help sell it. So many media outlets would love to get a hold of Axl. If he would've put himself out there that album would've easily doubled its sales and the tour in North America would've done even better. On top of that he could defuse a lot of the hatered from fans towards him and orginal GNR. Everything in his professional life could be so much easier.

@BSlash- Overall you have good insights on most subjects but exceptionally harsh on Rose so its hard not to question why "Slash" is in your name for years? Any chance you'll explain? Someone accused you of having multiple screennames, living in Boston area. Well in NYC, everyone is abuzz by this band and people around the world who see them know who is in the band and who isn't.

Look at your "precious hero" Slash who signed a contract Piers Morgan interview under the condition they talk about Axl. Slash sold him out. Bad form to continue . That's WHORING 101. I would like to see Slash and Axl succeed but the shady practices speak for themselves.

You call Axl one of my "heros" like I should be insulted? Altho the age difference isn't profound enough for me to have seen him in the idol light like Mercury, Morrison, Hendrix, Lynott, he deserves being in their league for his intense stage presence. Also I will let his band decide when they wanna release new material. Hemingway wrote his best work late in life.

listen, as far as an agenda, you got guys write "Slash is a hack, Axl rules, DJ > Slash" every post. Not that I care, its silly crap, but I never do that...and this post here, I don't compare to Slash. I commented on the other posts. Plain & Simple.

And I have no problem calling Slash out. American Idol appearance. bogus. I don't like to see any geniune rock artist or band on American Idol, Its cheesy, and yes, its Whoring 101. And? I also think Slash's latest release is his weakest, and very "Nickelbackish" in many areas. What's the big deal in having an opinion. I used to love Aerosmith, their new music is complete fluff. Its ok to question your favorite bands.

Axl Rose is HIGHLY controversial. many of his actions are odd, to say the least. Especially in their heyday...he's also very captivating because that.

I apologize for the wise crack, but I also don't think my post was that offensive, or anti Axl. Nor just blabbing on "Slash >Axl" and all that nonsense.

Axl is a legend, with the guy you mentioned. For me, that status is 100% from his days with the classic lineup. He's a shell of himself now. To me its a solo act. Fine. Not a rip, but I dont' think he's got it anymore. Is that opinion that threatening? Cuz maybe I make too much sense?...

If Axl puts out a gem like say hemingway in his later years, I'll eat my words. I don't see that happening. Singing is actually physical. Most writers/artist are more creative at their peaks. There are exceptions..

re: the screen name, who cares? I have one screen name, don't give it that much thought to be honest, nor should you. Its just blabbermouth. Who are these people accusing me of multiple screen names, and shouldn't they be doing something more productive with their time? I don't have the time to post under multiple names...isn't it the whole point to have ONE name?.

I don't think there's a huge buzz for GnR anymore. ROck concerts in general actually, no?

Enjoy.... smiles NYCKER. Don't take this all too seriously.

I'm endlessly fascinated that RiotAct666 writes the same tripe and now replaces "Slash" now where he used to write "Axl".

Won't be long until the DSM-IV will have a special code for this disorder and it will have its onset with increased Blabbermouth visitation, energy drinks, Bugs Bunny vitamins, and self flagellation.

Axl gets a bad rap.

Slash has gone around for 15-20 years saying "Axl forced me and the other guys to sign away the rights to the band or he wouldn't go onstage."

A first WEEK law student can tell you that's duress, one of the most basic parts of contract law, and this wouldn't happen in a million years.

But, 90% who hear it believe it, so their impression of the guy is already solidly off-base.

Dude performs late at night, for three plus hours. He has 40% writing credit for Appetite for Destruction. He has the balls to occasionally have (truly horrid) off-nights rather than fake it like a good chunk of rock bands out there today. What's the problem?

see, this is the problem. MH, you go SO far in the other direction. Maybe Slash is taking it too far with the contract issue, and Axl was tired of being with a bunch of unreliable addicts(Axl's side). Valid. Fans of Slash I think would agree.

But you're painting the picture as if Axl is a total victim, and is as sweet as Davey Jones. He's cuddly and kissing baby's, patting puddles....By Axl's own admission years ago, he had notorious mood swings. Issues w/women. Most in contact with him said he was the nicest guy in the world ,or a monster. So let's be a little real. He built a lot of his image on being that unpredictable R&R diva...who has bad nights on stage, both vocally and personally, breaking down mentally for all the world to see. This is fact. No bad rap.

There's no bad rap. Forget Slash, there's countless others who'll give their account. Where's there's smoke there's fire...and yes, I'm talking more in the past....and yes, he's very personalable in this appearence.

Wow - charming, engaging, articulate, and happy. Says that he is "doing much better" about starting on time, which both acknowledges the previous failings and addresses them at the same time. Dude seems like he has turned a corner. Good for him.

He seemed so much more down to earth and funny than I thought possible. I hope he's happier now and can get to work on a new album soon.

How appropriate.

Fun to see Axl has a sense of humor though.

Was his jaw broken or something? His speech isn't like it used to be.

Bslash,

Ask don Henley who owns the eagles. Ask m shadows who owns avenged sevenfold. Ask Steven Tyler who owns Aerosmith.

I'm not in the wrong. I said he gets a bad rap. It's true.

and none of it was earned?...you may be right, some of it was/is a bad rap. Ive seen first hand, that some of it wasn't a bad rap, but a "rap" that was earned, very bad behavior. Many other fans have as well. that is also true.

Ask Joe Perry who "owns" Aerosmith as well, you'll get a different answer, seeing they were going to kick Tyler out. There are 2 sides to every story...and in many cases, the power hungry get what they ask for...I'm sure Axl is happy with what he is doing now, and with who he's doing it with, so for him, that's all that counts. As a fan, I'm not on board. (and you obviously are).

Let's review who actually knows him.

Duff, Izzy, Robin, Brain = all cool with him.

Look at how long most folks stay in his band. Do you really think Fortus would be there 10 years if he didn't want to be there? Look at his résumé.

Bad rap in the media. Truth.

again MH, half the story. and you know that. You aren't presenting the whole story.

Duff has finally come to a good place w/Axl after seeing each other in London, but Duff left the band ,and was NOT cool with Axl Rose. Took a long time. Same w/Izzy. correct?

look at how long people stay? that's one way to look at it...the other side, look at how many LEFT! on bad terms. Not just Slash. Correct MH. for every dizzy reed, there's a Buckethead...and you very well know, his current band are hired hands, and so there are NO power struggles of a normal band that comes up together, true? you think Dizzy Reed's going to bite the hand that feeds. We'll see how long Bumblefoot remains if they don't make new music.

On the other hand, I'm sure Axl does treat these new guys well, as hired guys. but they know their place.

I'm NOT saying Axl was at fault in all cases. But you are presenting half the story. that's all I'm saying. There's a laundry list of people who couldn't deal w/the guy in the day.

Bad Reputation in the media. and a bad reputation with many of his band members other than Slash, and his peers, years ago. Now, well he's sort of under the radar anyhow, but seems cool.

I don't need the media to tell me he was a major Ahole on stage on many occasions when he was at his worst. again, he's matured now, it seems. I think I'm being fair in cutting him slack and seeing his side too.

give an example Le Dieu? again, not saying Axl's all at fault. Axl would admit to more of his issues than what Marla Hooch has him down for. When Axl used to allow interviews, Rolling sTone, Spin, he came forward with a lot of his mental issues. No?...he HASN"T had a lot of issues with many people in the past? Come on Mr. Dieu. Let's just be real.

What about a thousand? Ahah.

Since i come on Bmouth, i just read one-sided comments from you about the Guns situation. Well, maybe you had some nuances here and there but 90% of time Axl=asshole bitch, Slash=victim, the white cute sheep with charming eyes.

you are reading someone else, never said Slash was the victim, and not even bringing up Slash at all. Take Slash OUT of the mix, look at the trouble Axl's been in.

I commented above that the average rock fan doesn't know who's in GNR now. Or know they are a touring band. That's not a dig on your hero. Its just a statement. Doesn't mean he sux, or is great. And Axl fans can't deal. has ZERO to do with Slash. I don't bring Slash up.

ok, no you're right, all the craziness, all the arrests, all the lawsuits against Axl, they were all made up, he's a total victim, and everyone's out to get him...and I did state that he seems pretty well adjusted in 2012. no?

and why do you take Axl's side, why are YOU one sided? Oh, that's different right? Its different because I don't agree with you, that's all. We've been down this road a million time, then you write "yes, I know, Axl's no angel, he's got issues(like beating women), but its about the music"...why do we have to do this over and over? Let's just cut to the chase this time. Stop with the Axl Paranoia. He's got that covered already.

@BSlash24--You got another thumbs up from me for your peace-loving comment, we are not at odds just our opinions. I have never believed that Axl forced them out. Fights happen but quitting is for quitters. Axl deserves credit for not letting the band tank via abandonment or mismanagement. Duff and Slash have consistently said thru the years they willingly left but this year new accounts surfaced probably to make them look good in the press with the controversy. They seemed to bank on (make that Slash) that Axl wouldn't defend himself to the press.

======

Steppin' Out Magazine '01: Do you miss Guns N' Roses?

Slash: No. We had a fucking great time. The Guns N' Roses days were a blast! But you can't recreate it after a certain point. The lineup in the band had depleted so much. I just realized I couldn't keep doing it anymore. So I just split while it was still cool. (Laughs) You know?

=======

Duff said,"What you’re saying is the public perception is that Axl went crazy, kicked everybody out of the band. Now our band is a partnership, and actually is still a partnership. So you can’t kick out your partners, to clear that up. Look man, it’s not so easy for me to say, “Yeah, we left and that’s it.” It’s not easy for me to talk about because it’s tricky, but we left."

http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/apr/10/duff-mckagan-looks-back-on-gnr/

=====

I can't find the Marc Canter interview, here's one person's synopsis:

Marc: Izzy is paranoid, unreliable, scared of cameras, the drug addict that got Slash, Duff, Steven hooked, goes into hiding (where's izzy?), after Izzy sobered up he hated being around Slash/Duff because of their drugs and booze problems, Izzy was afraid of going bankrupt and being liable for GnR's problems, he quit on Axl and Slash to join another band in the early days before GnR, etc

Marc: Slash is a liar, Slash lies to make himself look cool, Slash lies when he is boxed into a corner, Slash ruined the 1996 reunion sessions, Slash rejected Axl's 2001 olive branch to do 3 songs on Chinese Democracy, Marc is closer to Axl than Slash even though Slash was his childhood friend, etc

Marc: Axl views Duff as trustworthy (even though Duff erroneously still believes Axl victimized him out of the GnR name)

Marc: Axl did not victimize Slash and Duff in signing over their rights to the GnR name, Axl was only trying to protect himself in the case of their deaths due to drugs and booze

Marc: Axl is not controlling in the creative music process but he is a perfectionist

Marc: Axl supported my book when the other members did not care
