GEORGE LYNCH Working On New Project With DOUG PINNICK, RAY LUZIER - Oct. 23, 2012
James Wood of GuitarWorld.com recently conducted an interview with legendary guitarist George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB, SOULS OF WE, T&N). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

GuitarWorld.com: What's the genesis of the T&N project?

George: Initially, Jeff [Pilson] and I were writing for what we thought would be the new LYNCH MOB record, but it turned out not to be a "LYNCH MOB" kind of album. Instead, we decided to turn lemons into lemonade and do our own record. One of things we wanted to do was make a concerted effort to make the connection between our DOKKEN legacy and our newer writing efforts by combining classic DOKKEN songs alongside our newer compositions.

GuitarWorld.com: What was it like revisiting the DOKKEN material again?

George: It was a little surreal recording those songs again with the same guys. It was also a lot of fun. We were so comfortable with the material, having all been playing it on and off for years. We felt that we could liven the music up and bring new life to it.
GuitarWorld.com: Are there plans to tour with T&N?

George: We're not going to tour together as a band most likely until next fall, upon the release of the second record. The next record is about half done. All of the DOKKEN material has been recorded. We just have to finish writing the new original material.

GuitarWorld.com: What DOKKEN songs can fans expect on the next album?

George: Songs like "When Heaven Comes Down", "Til The Livin' End" and "Just Got Lucky". "Just Got Lucky" actually ended up being insane. The latest plan is to have Sass Jordan, a wonderful Canadian female vocalist, singing it. She has a very soulful and gritty voice. It's just beautiful. A wonderful rendition of the song.

GuitarWorld.com: What other projects are you working on?

George: Right now, I'm working on a record with the drummer from KORN [Ray Luzier] and the singer from KING'S X [Doug Pinnick]. A still-unnamed project, but we've started writing and will be working on that through the middle of December. The other thing that consumes most of my time is my movie project (and band) called "Shadow Train". We're doing a lot of filming, playing and working on a soundtrack/record. The film deals with a lot of political and human nature issues and history. I'm working with a lot of really great people, including Mark McLaughlin (a producer from PBS and the Documentary channel) and Vincent Nicastro, who made another Native American themed documentary called "The Blue-Eyed Indian". There are a lot of guests on it: street poets, political thinkers and speakers. People from the native community including medicine men and shamans. It's a powerful, nerve-hitting film. We're all driven by passion.

Too many projects imo. How is he keeping his styles separate or is he just going with a one-size-fits-all sound? Thank God no new Souls Of We stuff forthcoming. I still think they should redo those songs with a better vocalist. Maybe even Don Dokken & his husky tone which would be better than that London guy.

Yeah, gotta say Lynch is on the south side of his playing days. Doug sounds old. and Ray, I wish you were still in Army of Anyone. That was a fantastic band.

Wow, not one, but two albums half full of shitty covers of your own songs. That's just fucking brilliant! Why in god's name did they not just make one original kick ass album and start a new band? They could have done something so cool and instead we get this watered down re-recorded guest singer bullshit. Fucking lame!

George Lynch conducts several interviews, telling everybody how great the Lynch Mob EP and T & N album are, and ends up touring behind neither. I've always been a big fan of George, but he leaves you disinterested, due to constant lineup changes and lack of focus on one project. I like Luzier and Pinninck. We'll see where this new trio stands in another month.

Hey, you gotta give GL some props for being perhaps the hardest working guitarist of his era. If you don't like Lynch music, don't comment here! The fact is L Mob smoke and mirrors, the new ep, the instrumental ep etc are all very good! No one is putting out as much quality material as George. Granted the late nineties and early zeroes were not so good but the Lynch/Pilson album is really good too, the classic rock covers record blah. Just wish the Logan, Crane, Coogan lineup could have survived. Glad I got to see them a bunch. The band with Luzier and Pinnick will rock also.

George is cool and all, and has enough dazzle and flash, but something about his tone just leaves me feeling empty somehow..

Doug Pinnick can sing and play the bass like nobody's business. There's so many way-cool King's X records in their catalog.

Maybe Doug's mojo will rub off on George so he can play with a bit more soul and less about sounding like you're trying to impress.. Just Play, man! Make us feel something. Frank Hannon of Tesla exemplified this well when he was the guest guitarist on 'That Metal Show'. George has done that a couple of times himself, but he needs more substance and grit to his playing..

Well, anyway, good luck with the new band :-) .

I'm really becoming annoyed with this guy lately. He can't commit to one project and as a fan I've really lost interest. Amazing player with unique sound but I sense he's got a lot of personal demons and might be a huge pain in the ass to work with.
