DEEP PURPLE: 14 Songs Ready For New Studio Album - Oct. 23, 2012
According to the DEEP PURPLE fan site The Highway Star, the band's bassist, Roger Glover, revealed in an interview with the Itar-Tass Russian news agency that DEEP PURPLE has completed work on 14 songs for a new studio album with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS), with 11 or 12 tracks set to appear on the final CD. A tentative February 2013 release for the as-yet-untitled effort is expected.

In other news, The Voice Of Russia reports that when DEEP PURPLE perform in Yekaterinburg, St.Petersburg, Moscow, and Krasnodar later this month, they will unveil compositions and songs that have never been performed before.

DEEP PURPLE's Russia tours have become a regular occurrence since the band’s first performance in the country in 1996.

DEEP PURPLE's 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", was released in November 2005. It was the fourth studio CD from DEEP PURPLE since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey.

"Rapture of the Deep" was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band's previous release, 2003's "Bananas".

Technically proficient but he's never done anything for me. Satriani's live shows were insanely good but even in Kansas I didn't think Morse worked. I'd love it if all this RRHoF stuff lead to Blackmore jumping on stage with the guys just once at some random show (out of some sort of anger at Wenner and the attention).

Won't happen but I can dream.

And no I was never into the Dregs either. T. Lavitz is a fine keyboardist though.

...give Purpendicular a listen.

Morse is not Blackmore (no one is), but he's an AMAZING guitarist.

I think the key is Ian Paice. If he is ambitous in terms of playing aggressively it will be good. If he is on cruise control and playing only for the song it will be predictable. I know the arguments about "for the benfit of the song" but this band (post Blackmore) needs him to be a leader like he was in the early 70's. There are hardly any fast- tempo songs from them in the last 20 years. Last time I saw them they were just going through them motions. Don Airey is a great Synthesizer player too, and I hope he becomes more aggressive as well.

I've never been a fan of Morse but it's a good thing they're releasing new music. Hope it's heavier than the last one.

Purpendicular - surprisingly a very good album.
A Band On - Very Heavy.....Jon Lord sounds awesome.
Bananas - Some decent songs & some weak shit.
Rapture of the Deep - soft rock, boring.

Next album ? Actually losing interest in this band at this point - I really want them to show they still got it !!

Hope they do...

Sadly, I agree. My lifelong second favourites, but aside from loving Purpendicular and live shows in 2001 and 2010, they did start to lose me a little from Abandon on. I do enjoy a few songs quite a bit from the last 3 albums, but overall, they had an almost tired vibe.

Morse is very hit and miss to me, and the guys are up there in age, so I don't expect too much. Still, when you have Coverdale and Aldridge, Box/Lanzon/Shaw, and Iommi/Dio ripping it up in near top form again in recent years, it does make you wish Gillan and Morse could stoke a fire once more, even if Ian isn't wailing like a banshee. At least he hasn't mellowed out as much as Plant I guess :P

Good news! I listened to Purpendicular the other day, and it's really one of their best. It's not very aggressive or heavy or anything, but the songs are just so good you can't help loving it.

I hope they've moved away from the style they had on Rapture, because that's the the most boring Purple album since the 60's. I just hope for good songs.

...people calling themselves DP fans would do well by giving a good listen to the following:

Purpendicular
Abandon
Bananas
Rapture of the Deep

Purpendicular especially, is one of the best things with their name on it. Incredible album. Morse is incredibly talented and a great addition to the band.

The others are excellent as well, well worth hearing.

RIP Jon Lord...:-(
