YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: New Album Release Date Announced - Oct. 17, 2012
Legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen will release his new album, "Spellbound", on December 5.

Acclaimed heavy metal singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH), who has been fronting Yngwie's band both live and in the studio since February 2008, was unable to join Malmsteen at the Getaway Rock in July due to scheduling conflicts with Tim's official Ronnie James Dio tribute band DIO DISCIPLES. Handling most of the lead vocals during Yngwie's set at the Getaway Rock Festival was bassist Ralph Ciavolino.

Released on November 22, 2010 via Malmsteen's own Rising Force Records, Yngwie's most recent album, "Relentless", features striking vocals from Owens, who first collaborated with Malmsteen on "Perpetual Flame" (Malmsteen's first album for the Rising Force Records label).

Of the latest CD, Malmsteen said, "The album title really says it all. The drive to surpass my own accomplishments can best be described with one word — relentless. After all these years of composing and playing music, I still am passionate about pushing myself to the limit — to the highest, most demanding level of playing possible."

Yngwie is working on his autobiography. Described as "the only real and true story written by Malmsteen himself," "Relentless", will be released in early 2013. Yngwie has also launched an instructional web site, RelentlessShred.com.

I wish he'd get another singer. I just don't like the way Ripper sounds with him. I'd have liked to hear an Yngwie album with Jorn singing, but that collaboration didn't last long (too many big egos?).

I certainly hope the production is better for this album. The guitar sound on Relentless was horrible.

Yngwie should bring back Jeff Scott Soto for this record.

Fuck the vocals - all Yngwie albums should be instrumentals.

Wake the fuck up. Yngwie - aka Sad Tub Of Goo - hasn't toured the world OR sold out venues in about a decade.

Idiot.

All you guys that critizise Yngwie, are you some sort of gods yourselves? (You probable work with concrete and live in a trailer park!) You may not like him as person or that he eats too much, or even his music. But its pathetic to ignore his talent. Read the inofficial biography and you will see how much he sacrified to become where he is today; family, friends and relationships. (and yes I am a fan AND Swede :) )

Looking forward to it. I agree, the production needs to be half decent. The last couple of albums sound like they have been recorded by children learning the trade.

im not a huge Yngvie fan but its great that guys like him are around, people with talent and are not afraid to use it instead of writing the same 3 chord pop/rock stuff over and over again for the masses. but of course people like him sell less albums then those people but so what??? sales arent anything.

Like others have said Yngwie needs a good Producer! but his Ego gets in the way, he thinks he can do everything when he can't, Yngwie is not a good producer.

Bullshit.

Yngwie's "talent" is no different than speed-typing. As far as actual musical expression? He has ZERO talent in that regard.

In conclusion - he sucks.

Gt used to it.

One of the best pure guitar players ever. The music is not always commerically accessible, but criticizing his guitar playing ability is just silly. And it’s not just pure speed – it’s the ability to take the most complicated classical forms and techniques and convert them into rock/metal template and then execute with extreme precision. I agree Soto would be the best match - I always thought the music they made together was the best in his catalogue.

I think Yngwie was consulted by KISS to do their Monster album cover.

LOL! ... yes! ... spellbound is one word! ... good catch ... not the norm for the usuals on here ... i also concur with your appreciation of ripper ... or lack thereof more like it ... jeff scott soto is the best vocalist yngwie ever had ... period ... i still dig yngwie ... i remember when i thought he was "god" ... ah the folly of youth ... love him or hate him, yngwie will not be ignored ... i love him ... rock on

Bullshit. Yngwie has monster technique - no doubt. But he says nothing with his playing, other than I play fast. It's meaningless wizardry and THAT is why he's not popular.
