METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT: LED ZEPPELIN 'Was The Soundtrack To My Youth' - Oct. 10, 2012
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett was among the musicians who attended yesterday's (October 9) premiere of LED ZEPPELIN's press new concert movie, "Celebration Day", at the historic Ziegfeld Theater in New York's theater district.

Asked what LED ZEPPELIN means to him, Hammett told Artisan News (see video below), "It was the soundtrack to my youth. They were pretty much the first band I actually sat down with with a guitar and tried to learn the guitar solos and the songs."

He continued, "I cannot say enough about LED ZEPPELIN and the fucking impact that they've had on me and my musical career.

"Jimmy Page has been one of my heroes for year and years and years … He was the band. I mean, he was all-encompassing. He was a brilliant songwriter, he was a brilliant musician, he was a brilliant producer, he was a brilliant showman. I mean, he had it all — he had a great tone and a great attitude.

"I mean, what's not to like about LED ZEPPELIN? He was such a big influence on my life."

"Celebration Day" will have its U.K. premiere at London's legendary Hammersmith Apollo on October 12. Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant will also be attendance for this special event and a limited number of tickets will be made available to fans for £20.

Premieres for the film will follow in Berlin on October 15, where Jones is confirmed to attend, and Tokyo on October 16, which will have Page in attendance.

The film of "Celebration Day" will see a worldwide theatrical release by Omniverse Vision on 1,500 screens in over 40 territories on October 17. Tickets for the public screenings are available now via LedZeppelin.com.

"Celebration Day" will then be available in multiple video and audio formats on November 19 from Swan Song/Atlantic Records.

His mom's from the Pillipeens. Wonder if he's ever heard of Juan de la Cruz?

Judging by his solos, and guitar skill; I always believed the soundtrack to his youth was a kind of high frequency howl.

Led Zeppelin had integrity, strong moral principles, and they never sold out. Too bad that Kirk didn't learn anything from them.

No disrespect to Zep, but Kirk has been doing it for 30 years. Led Zep could only make it 10 years before they called it quits.... yes I said "called it quits". they could have easily replaced Bonham the way Lars and James replaced Cliff. Keep doing what you love..... unless you don't love it anymore?? From what I can see, Plant must have been pretty strung out on drugs or alcohol (or both) to look the way he does today. It takes stamina to do this for 30 years. Obviously Plant didn't have any.

Replacing Cliff was the worst thing Metallica ever did. If they called it quits when they lost Cliff then Metallica would have been remembered as the greatest metal band in history.

With all due respect, that's kinda sad and stupid to say: break up and quit after Cliff left.. Can't ya just pretend the band ended after 'Master' and Cliff's passing? True, opinions are opinions and fair enough, there. If Anything, Metallica probably would have lost their minds had they not dived back into being a band to help cope with Cliff's death.

No one has to like everything anyone does, but I do respect anyone who is willing to take chances, and Metallica does. Respect. Peace.

Looks best suited for the IMax. Best band in history.

People who will bother to post complaints about Led Zeppelin can stick them so far up their arse that it reaches their tongue. I am always amazed at how tasteless some of you are here.

The Crunge=Worst song ever written. Name one that's worse. And grindcore doesn't count because it isn't music.

Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors, Aerosmith, etc are hard for me to care about. Sure they've all got some good tunes & they deserve their respects I suppose, but when you're growing up & everyone over the age of 30 wants to tell you how great these bands were, and how music these days sucks, and so on, and like the guy above me said how radio just beats the shit into your head...

it finally just gets to the point where it's like, "You know what? Fuck you, this shit sucks." I love Physical Grafitti, but everything else I just find myself drowning out.

I suppose thats how a lot of kids feel about Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, etc these days? I don't know. whatever.

While I agree with you about their "strong moral principles," every person who was associated with Zeppelin has said that that book was absolute trash.

He's high or drunk or something, but I totally agree with what he says there. Page's riffs are always fun to play, his acoustic shit as well.

Respect.

They were the soundtrack to my youth because they were played 100 fucking times a day on local radio. The problem with that is I was so sick of the 1/2 of the songs they played it was hard to get through a whole album.

I think people that were born in the 80's got fucked over and never got to hear those records the way they were meant to be heard because half of their material was so overexposed while the other half was ignored.
