KISS: 'Monster' Projected To Sell 60K-65K First Week - Oct. 10, 2012
"Monster", the 20th studio album from legendary rockers KISS, is likely to sell between 60,000 and 65,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on October 9 via Universal Music Enterprises.

KISS' previous CD, "Sonic Boom", opened with 108,000 units back in October 2009 to land at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart. This marked the band's highest-charting LP ever.

KISS has notched eight Top 10 albums, according to Billboard.com. Its previous highest-charting set was 1998's "Psycho Circus", which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 110,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's other high-charting sets include 1975's "Alive!" (No. 9), 1977's "Love Gun" (No. 4) and 1992's "Revenge" (No. 6).

Described in a press release as a "12-track, straight-ahead rock 'n' roll album," "Monster" features collaborations among all four members — including co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer — in an album that shows the band at the top of its game.

"Monster" track listing (iTunes version):

01. Hell Or Hallelujah
02. Wall Of Sound
03. Freak
04. Back To The Stone Age
05. Shout Mercy
06. Long Way Down
07. Eat Your Heart Out
08. The Devil Is Me
09. Outta This World
10. All For The Love Of Rock & Roll
11. Take Me Down Below
12. Last Chance
13. Right Here Right Now

A 30-second commercial for "Monster" can be seen below.

"Monster" was also produced by Paul Stanley with Greg Collins at Conway Studios in Hollywood, California, and The Nook in Studio City, California.

"Monster" represents KISS' nod to the music that first inspired them to pick up their guitars and flame-throwers and don makeup to entertain millions. The group goes back to their own beginnings with THE WHO-like "Freak", while Gene lives up to the title track's declaration on the raucous rock of "Back To The Stone Age" and the bludgeoning "The Devil is Me". Even guitarist Thayer takes a turn on his own with "Outta This World". a tribute to his KISS "spaceman" character, while drummer Singer provides the vocals (and the back story) for the arena anthem "All For The Love Of Rock & Roll".

"There are no symphony orchestras, boy choirs, keyboards, outside producers or songwriters on this album," promises Gene Simmons. "The best thing we did was to turn inwards to ourselves. Tommy and Eric have revitalized this band, with a work ethic and the talent to back it up. This is a real band effort. KISS has become a behemoth. We're going where no bands have gone before."

Listened to all the samples on iTunes this morning. Yawn. Sounds only slightly less boring than Sonic Boom. I'm going to pass on it (and I do have all the others).

Good point...
I reckon 45% of sales will be from iTunes downloads.
I'm glad kiss went that way this time, as people today prefer digital downloads.

It's already number 1 on American iTunes

that thrilled with Sonic Boom, but the samples I have heard from Monster sound much better than most songs on SB. I think Long Way Down is easily one of the better songs that KISS has produced in recent years. It was definitely a good choice for a single.

The album has been getting pretty good reviews on Amazon...

Hooray for bland, generic hard rock. But in all honesty, I haven't given fuck one about this band since Lick It Up. They were once a great hard rock band. One of the best, but they're doing nothing but milking it for the ca$h now. Sad.

They have been selling less of every subsequent release for over 25 years.
Of course they will figure out a way to say this goes "gold".
They have become so boring it's painful. Even when they are trying.
If they're still so big why did "the tour" only sell to about 75% capacity even with a band that has sold more records (just the last 30 years) than they have?

im just kidding (not really), on the other hand if the future of metal has anything to do with the word 'core' in the genre then i'll pass

Who's crying about downloading ???
You obviously Misread my post as I was talking about iTunes downloads !!

Once again the usual trolling post from yourself, and as usual I'm here to wip the floor with you..

Firstly kiss releases don't sell less every year, it depends on the record. You had asylum selling 4 million while elder sold less than 800k, so your theory is wrong again. I can use more examples if need be :)

Secondly in the last 30 years kiss catelog has out sold motleys by a large margin. Kiss have had more gold and platinum than the Crüe in that time frame, which leads to more sales. Duh !!!!!

As for the tour, you will find the shows were all packed so once again your pulling figures out of your ass...

Next time you troll please remember I'm here to pawn you !!

Bought it yesterday and think it a much more solid release than Sonic Boom, which I thought was good, but not great. Was hoping fir one more studio recird before they retire, but not sure if it will happen. Watched a little of them on Live on Letterman tonight and Paul's voice is sounding really rough....not sure he'll have another record in him after a long tour!

'Sonic Boom' did 110,000 or so in Week I, so why the hell is a far superior album doing worse? KISS has tenfold more Facebook fans now than in 2009 (7,000,000 VS 1,000,000 when SB came out) that are aware of the album, 'Monster' is pretty much garnering universal praise from fans and critics, and it's available in more venues than SB, yet it's going to do worse than SB?

What..in the hell?
O_o

I think HITS is lowballing it/off the mark big time...least I hope they will be..

From 108,000 down to maybe only 65,000. Thats brutal. Either way, the new album is fantastic. I like it better than Sonic Boom. Just seems stronger. I say 4.5/5. These songs would be real good live. Top 3: Hell or Hallelujah, Eat Your Heart Out and probably All For The Love of Rock & Roll.

To the last 3post

Remember this guys, sonic boom was only available in stores not online.
Kiss monster was available on iTunes before the stores and is the first kiss album sold on iTunes upon release.

It may sell 60,000 physical copies but you also add the iTunes sakes to that and the numbers are larger. It's #1 on iTunes ATM

Now if you go to hits daily website, all albums are doing less than 80k first week because of digital sales :)

"a tribute to his KISS "spaceman" character"

His Spaceman character???? Hey, fuck that. Legally. Kiss may own the character but ACE FUCKING FREHLEY will always be the true spaceman. Scab.

I'm digging the new KISS album. Great production. Very solid record. It fits in nicely along side most of the catalogue.

Didn't the last one, Sonic Boom, have inflated sale numbers because the additional disc (dvd) counted twice technically?

Nope. A set that has more than one disc has to be over 200 mins long for the sales to be inflated; KISS was short 3 mins so it counted as one unit sold = 1 disc.

The KISS Monster album grows every listening and the limited edition 3D cover is really neat, and lift the cover art. The iTunes bonus track Right here Right now is really good.

wow... very strange.
As I'm reading your "All hail Black Sabbath" post,
Iron Man comes on IheartRadio.

I'm a scab hater... but had to buy Monster. I don't buy any merch (unless super discounted).
Have to admit, a very solid album (after 5-6 listens). Sad thing, it doesn't take away from the fact that the scabs are in denial.
Either take the make-up off alltogether or give original characters to Singer and Thayer. Otherwise the wise, real, Kiss fans will never forgive.
