GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist DJ ASHBA Says AXL ROSE Has 'Tons Of Stuff' Recorded For Next Album - Oct. 9, 2012
GUNS N' ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba tells RollingStone.com that the band is proceeding with the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2008's "Chinese Democracy" while preparing for an appearance at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, and the 12-date residency at the Hard Rock Hotel's Joint club in Las Vegas.

"[Axl Rose] has tons of stuff done [and] recorded that he's played for me and wants my input on," Ashba said. "Axl's put together such a talented group of musicians and there are so many songs that are already worked out. So we've got a good jump on it, for sure."

He added, "[The Vegas residency] is the first time we're all gonna be in the same place for a month solid and that will be, and already has been talked about, our main focus. So I think we're gonna get a lot of done. There's a lot of stuff recorded and I think it's just a matter of sitting down and working together as a band, putting together what we feel is gonna be the next best GUNS N' ROSES record. And I can't wait; I'm so excited to dive even deeper into that."

The Bridge School Benefit will see GUNS N' ROSES perform an entirely unplugged set. "A lot of the acoustic shows in the past, I would still play on the [electric] Les Paul — but for this, we're going all acoustic, no electric anything. That's how Neil kind of envisioned the whole thing, so we're gonna stay true to that, for sure," Ashba explained to RollingStone.com. "We're gonna add a couple [songs] that the band's never played... I know Axl is really excited to do it."

As the group's Vegas run, Ashba said, "We're playing three shows a week and our main goal is to make every show unique and really change it up because we do realize there are going to be a lot of people flying from all over the world to see maybe one, two, three shows. But there are the local people that we do take into consideration that may show up to every single show. That's kind of what's been cool about GUNS: it's so spontaneous live, we've never followed a set list."

You never followed a setlist? You've played virtually the same setlist for years. "Do you know where the f*** you are?" always precedes Welcome to the Jungle. The entire show is scripted.

Nah, it's not. Yes, they play the same songs and the first 3 songs and the last one is always the same, but other than that they make up the order of the songs as they go along.

You mean compared to the original "I just drank a quart of whiskey, crapped my pants and haven't showered in a few weeks" Slash?

I've no doubt that ol' Axl does have all sorts of stuff recorded. Does that mean The Axl Rose Band will have an album out any time soon? Most likely not. Axl has shown himself to be is a tinker-man and, to the point of not knowing when the potao is baked - so-to-speak.

The only reason why Chinese Democracy was released when it was had everything to do with financial pressure reaching a boiling point.

One or two 'new' songs may see the light of day in a live setting , but a full album? Ashba will be a former member before that happens.

Well, Axl should have a ton of stuff already recorded.

He only spent millions of dollars and 14 years working on songs with a revolving door of musicians and songwriters.

It's already been 4 years since Chinese Democracy came out and it wasn't promoted at all. So I guess we'll have to wait another 10 years before we hear any of these new songs they keep saying they're working on?

Uhm... no. I saw them 3 times this year and 2 of those 3 times they played to an audience of around 20.000 people. And the smaller one had a crowd of 7.000 people. So all things considered, they are doing well.

DJ ASHTRAY couldn't tune Slash's guitar if he tried. And all you punks who say this wannabe gay clone is better than Slash are straight up ignorant. Find one guitar solo from DJ ASSWIPE that beats the last 5 mins of this solo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pv5EacPgfko

there's really nothing worse than hearing a formerly amazing band's current members blowing smoke up the assholes of the original band members, as though that's some prerequisite to maintaining your job in the band. Have a little pride.

1st day buyer here , I bought the ChiDem CD the day it came out and found a used (but never played) copy on THICK vinyl that I play all the time.

Chinese Democracy has revealed itself to be a GREAT hard rock album as time has gone by.

Axl Rose is a genius and there's nothing the internet trolls can do about it....

AXL is the last real rock star and you motherfuckers don't even get it....

The new Guns are one of the only "supergroups" in the history of rock & roll that DON'T SUCK , they are up there with Cream, Traffic, Blind Faith, Deep Purple

DON'T YOU MOTHERFUCKERS EVER GET BORED TALKING SHIT ABOUT AXL ROSE AND GUNS N ROSES ?

Axl's throat = beyond trashed. A whole nother album of digitally enhanced pitch adjusted vocals coming your way, followed by a tour of sad attempts to replicate the vox live. The guy can write a song, I'll give him that - but dude, he sounds SO BAD live, and has for years. I'll wait for the album to hit the dollar store shelves (like I did for Chinese Democracy)

I saw GNR last year in Greenville, SC and I was suprised at how great his voice sounded. He looked ridiculous, but he sounded amazing. Plus they played almost 3 hours to a less than half full arena. They gave it their all, and I was really impressed with everyone.

I also like Chinese Democracy. Easily one of the most underrated rock albums ever on the one hand. On the other, it should have been a bit shorter and more consistent.

I think the album's greatness gets somewhat diminished by the fact that Axl could have been more straightforward and release it as his first solo album. While UYI 1 & 2 were a significant departure from AOD stylistically which was pretty hard to swallow at that point already, Chinese Democracy has nothing in common with the music of the previous albums. I think the fact really explains some of this odd animosity towards the album.

No set up or promotion, no interviews explaining the music and songs, not even from a single coherent band, put together over a period of about 10 years with a faceless cast of thousands......

I understand the animosity , I just don't agree with it
