"Stone Letter", the new single from
TOMAHAWK, the alt-rock super group featuring
Duane Denison (
THE JESUS LIZARD,
UNSEMBLE),
Mike Patton (
FAITH NO MORE,
FANTÔMAS),
John Stanier (
BATTLES,
HELMET) and
Trevor Dunn (
MELVINS LITE,
MR. BUNGLE), is available for streaming at
Spin.com. The track comes off the band's new album,
"Oddfellows", which is scheduled for release on January 29, 2013 via
Ipecac.
"Stone Letter" will be released as a limited-edition seven-inch single on Record Store Day's Black Friday event on November 23. The track will also be made available digitally on December 4. The B-side will be an original etching by famed cartoonist and comics scholar
Ivan Brunetti.
"Oddfellows" "is a full-on rock album,"
Dennison recently told
Rolling Stone. "There's no quirky weirdness — it's very straightforward for us. There's almost like this weird, upbeat sound, what I call 'heavy pop,' and
Patton totally got the vibe right away... really heavy
BEACH BOYS."
The band's first live dates in nearly a decade kick off later this month with a half dozen performances including stops at the
Voodoo Music Experience and
Fun Fun Fun Fest.
TOMAHAWK has been dormant for the past five years after releasing a trio of albums:
"Tomahawk" in 2001,
"Mit Gas" in 2003 and
"Anonymous" in 2007. The band last performed live in 2003.
