PAUL STANLEY On Musicians And Actors Talking About Politics: 'It's So Embarrassing' - Sep. 26, 2012
During a recent interview with AOL's Noisecreep, KISS frontman Paul Stanley made it clear that he didn't share his bandmate Gene Simmons' views on voicing their political opinions publicly.

"I don't know what's more embarrassing, these musicians and actors talking about politics in interviews or the media actually giving them credibility about it," Stanley said. "It's absurd that a celebrity could speak out on the economy or politics with no more justification than a hit album or a movie. Not to deride Gene, but I just think he's part of a symptom of absurdity where you'll see somebody on television whose only criteria for being there is success in a field far away from what they're being asked about. I really don't know who is more ridiculous, the celebrity answering these political questions or the person asking them."

He continued, "I'm usually not at a loss for words, but this whole celebrity political thing always gets me. It's so embarrassing to see people with absolutely no inside knowledge of anything they are talking about. I have friends who are intimately involved with world affairs and these are the people who won't give opinions like these celebrities do. For my friends, it's far more complex and sensitive than that, unlike these celebrities who read some newspaper story, or watch CNN, and then spout out some opinion on something they truly don't know anything about."

Earlier in the year, Simmons expressed regret over his endorsement of President Barack Obama in 2008, telling Fox News' "Fox and Friends", "Hindsight is 20/20. I have some real issues with the economy and how it's being done. America should be in business and it should be run by a businessman."

He continued, "America is a business. If you can't afford to do something, no matter how much bellyaching everybody does… I'm so sorry, if you can't afford it, you shouldn't do it. If you can afford to take care of two kids. Have two kids. Don't have ten kids. If you can't afford to have a $400,000 home, you can afford a $100,000 home, then do that."

Asked by host Gretchen Carlson who his pick for president was, Simmons responded, "Strictly speaking on the economy and in my humble opinion, Mitt Romney."

Why are they showing a picture of Giorgio Tsoukalos?

Having said that, I understand Paul's point. Seeing rock n' roll, drug addict, sex fiend, party animals talk about politics can be hard to take seriously. But 99.99% of the people who vote are not politicians, so does that make them unqualified to vote?

Your in a different business, so don't talk about fast food work when you're not in the same field and no just as much about the subject as the peons who pay for your merch.

Give me a fucking break, STANLEY.

You went on Fox News a couple of years ago and railed against raising taxes on the rich, and railed against "Obamacare"...so you have NO room to talk.

Funny how conservative pussies always whine about the nonexistent "liberal media" and "liberal Hollyood"...

...and yet, they literally WORSHIP and GROVEL at the feet of their senile and Sainted Ronald Reagan, a B movie actor.

I'm not even exaggerating...they WORSHIP him in a way that words fail me. "Creepy" doesn't even begin to accurately describe it.

Then of course they also venerate John Wayne, a prissy, pampered little racist who liked to butch up and pretend. He was macho by playing Cowboys and Indians. Right wingers love to live vicariously through Wayne's films and feel like they're true bad asses.

I know right wingers have a difficult time grasping reality, but this is ridiculous...they probably jerk off while holding a shotgun and watching The Searchers.

And of course the piece de resistance...Clint Eastwood at the RNC.

Another pampered millionaire who likes to pretend he's a badass, and right wingers get duped time and again....he even came out onstage to Ennio Morricone's score, and those stooges lapped it up.

Can you imagine the conservative outrage if the Democrats tried to pull a cheap publicity stunt like that with, say, Sean Penn or Alec Baldwin?

The right would have a collective mental breakdown....well, they already HAVE had a collective mental breakdown, but I digress.

So let's be clear: Stanley and other conservatives don't care if an entertainer runs his mouth as long as he's on THEIR side.

What Stanley and conservatives have a problem with is if a LIBERAL entertainer dares speak his/her mind...that's just not acceptable in the GOP's Idiot Amerika.

Ok, here's some research.

"Reagan, renowned by Republicans as a tax-cutter, also increased revenue about a dozen times when confronted with surging deficits."
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-22/democrats-recall-reagan-s-tax-increases.html

"Can you raise your hand if you feel so strongly about not raising taxes, you'd walk away on the 10 to one deal?
All the GOP candidates promptly raised their hands, which garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience."
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2012/07/taxes_heresies_of_the_obvious.html#ixzz27fxBESL3

“It would be fine with me if we eliminated all nuclear weapons,” said Reagan. “We can do that,” replied Gorbachev, “Let’s eliminate them. We can eliminate them.”
http://www.acus.org/new_atlanticist/fulfilling-reagan%E2%80%99s-dream-nuclear-disarmament

Mitt Romney's position on reduction of the US nuclear arsenal:
Review the implementation of the New START treaty and other decisions by the Obama Administration regarding America's nuclear posture and arms-control policies to determine whether they serve the best interests and national security of the United States.
http://www.mittromney.com/news/press/2012/07/fact-sheet-romney-plan-american-century

If Reagan ran for office today he'd be laughed off as a tax-hiking, limp-wristed ninny by his party. Fact.

I don't even know what MSLSD is. Unlike you, I can form an opinion without watching a movie or youtube video. As far as why he couldn't secure the nomination: he raised taxes 11 times in 8 years, he beleved in amnesty for illegal immigrants and was pro nuclear disarmament. There's more but you're not worth any more of my time.

Every person in America has some opinion on politics and/or the election. Put Alec Baldwin OR the guys that picks up your trash on a talk show and they'll both have opinions about who the next president is. So because someone is a celebrity does that automatically renders them unable to have an informed opinion?

That's not the point. Politics are a part of everybody's lives, whether they like it or not. And everybody has an opinion about something. But that doesn't mean that you should go public with it.

Musicians and actors having an opinion about politics, is basically the same thing as a politician having an opinion about music and movies. They have every right to form an opinion about it, but at the end of the day it's just unqualified and meaningless drivel.

The worst thing is that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of fans who don't agree with them.

These celebrities are now all having a cow because the guy they got behind turns out to be one of the most ineffective executives we've ever had.

At least Paul Stanley is willing to own up to the fact that he's learned from this mistake.

If the outcome of this disastrous 4 years of whitehouse incompetence has a silver lining, it is that it will cause some of the opinionated celebs to either shut up or at least become informed before they back someone.

has an opinion. We tend to look at people with a lot of money - thinking they know best. I guess they do know how to make money.
Some people don't care about politics. Just go thhrough the list above and find out who cares and who doesn't. It's crystal clear.

People are entitled to their opinion - freedom of speech. It is sad to judge that in the way Paul Stanley does. Don't forget he's being asked THIS PARTICULAR question because he is famous (too)

I get his point in principal. Famous people can abuse their positions, or mistake their fame for a soap box. You know what though, the opposite is true; being famous doesn't make you less entitled to have an opinion and voice it, and it doesn't make you more or less likely to be wrong. If the average person can spout bullshit unchecked, and politicians can make a career out of it, why do I care either way what a musician decides to exercise his/her free speech to put out there? It's not going to be any worse than what ACTUAL politicians say/do/think/distort. Ever.

So if you're going to take a hardline, be consistent. It's not that famous people shouldn't rant about politics, it's that stupid, uninformed people shouldn't, and you're no more or less likely to do that either way.

True, in a way. The difference though is that the average person will share his opinion at the water cooler or local bar and won't influence anyone, while the celebrity's opinions gets carried on TV, radio and in newspapers and might influence lots and lots of stupid people, just because they like that celebrity.

So, I guess the point is, have a opinion, but don't misuse your fame to try to influence other people with your opinions, which are not more valid than those of the average Joe's. If you get on TV, radio or newspapers be educated on what you're talking about.

People and OWS say that bailing out big banks and corporations was a mistake and individuals should have received the money.

82%-85% of Americans are fiscally irresponsible. People buy houses they can't afford, everyone has at least 2 credit cards, etc.

If you let the banks go under there is nowhere to put money. If those big corporations fail, hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs, pensions, etc.

In & Out is like Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde having lesbien sex in your mouth. It is absolutely the most delicious burger you can possibly imagine coming from a fast food establishment. All the ingredients are fresh (never frozen) and all the employees speak English (as opposed to every oher fast food place in Los Angeles, where they all speak Spanish) so they nevermess up your order. And don't feel too bad that you don't get it in Australia (my fiance' is from Queensland and abslutely loves In & Out). Most of America doesn't have it, either.

I think the main thing people get pissed off about celebrities or musicians talking about politics is because, usually when you are watching tv or a movie or listening to music, you are trying to escape the everyday political bullshit and arguing that we see on a day to day basis, regardless of whether you agree with the politics of whatever said person is saying.

So when you try to go for an escape and then have to listen to politics you're just not in the mood for it.
