MATT SORUM On GREEN DAY Frontman's Rant: It Was 'The Most Punk Rock Thing He Has Ever Done' - Sep. 26, 2012
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum says that GREEN DAY frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's profanity-filled tirade at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas last Friday (September 21) was "the most punk rock thing he has ever done." But Sorum added via Twitter, "Then [Billy] had to go and ruin it by apologizing. Corporate rock is alive and well. Never really bought that band anyway."

Armstrong exploded after his band's set was cut from 45 minutes to 25, and he was given a signal halfway through their seventh song that they had one minute left. After screaming for two minutes at promoters, he smashed his guitar and left the stage.

A statement was issued on Sunday (September 23), apologizing for the incident and stating that a number of other promotional appearances by the band would be canceled while Armstrong sought help.

Billie Joe delivered the induction speech for GUNS N' ROSES at this past April's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, saying, "The first time I saw GUNS N' ROSES on MTV, I thought, 'One of these guys could end up dead or in jail,'" He raved about "Appetite For Destruction", calling it "the best debut album in the history of rock and roll."

Nicely played Mr. Sorum, nicely played. . . . . :-)

Billie and his band are the biggest f'ing posers on the planet. They aren't punk, they're a f'ing pop band for crying out loud. The punk label was a marketing ploy that was used to sell their records, which a gazillion of you f'ing idiots fell for. I'm surprised this pussy didn't start crying during his sophomoric rant. Fuck Green Day and Billie "The Poser" Armstrong!!!!!!

Rehab is for quitters. . . .

The sad thing is he actually had an argument.

You think Usher just said I want 25 more minutes like a grown up? Doubt it.

I'd bet this happens all the time to bands being worked over by entitled fit throwing pop stars. It's just to bad he handled it like one of them and acted the same way that's ruined his music since 19-fucking-88.

And Matt Sorum needs to take it all in...look at that crowd. Nothing punk could ever happen there. They were playing a song from when they were still trying to be punk and not one bleach blonde retard ahd a clue what it was.

This band came out along with Alanis Morrisette, Bush, No Doubt, etc. Corporate rock at it's best.

Punk is a very overused term and Matt Sorum shouldn't talk about it at all.

Joey Ramone was drunk throughout the 80s but never acted like a bitch. That's why he referred to this shit as "Plastic Punk."

Green Day was never punk in the slightest. It's mildly angry pop music for kids. They were vaguely interesting in the early 90's as nothing like them were in the limelight at the time. Still, not really anything of merit.

why do rock stars get choked about their set getting cut short? i figure it's like getting off work early. he should be psyched. all he said was "what the fuck? 1 minute? fuck this. i've been around since '88. fuck this." he didn't say what was so ridiculous about getting their set cut but i wish he did.

i imagine he's just wacked out on drugs or alcohol. or a grandiose rocker dickhead. or both.

Matt Sorum has played for three big 'corporate rock' bands: GNR, Cult and VR, lol...

Any record sold in fucking Best Buy and Walmart is 'corporate rock' Matty boy.

Anyway who thinks Green Day are still claiming to be 'punk' need to get their head examined. Green Day hasn't claimed to be punk since 1992.

Billy Joe said he was sorry because he fucked up and it was the right thing to do.

Green Day are a killer band that makes great power pop rock songs, and absolutely killed it with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.

Killer live band too.

Lets not put GNR in the corporate rock section so fast. Sure, they sucked once Matt was in, but they got their fame from standing out and being unique.

I pointed out that Green Day was part of a massive corporate movement, but GNR was not like Poison, Def Leppard, George Michael and all the other shit that was hot from 87-89.

Ya know I can't deny when Green Day came out I dug them. They had some really good songs and F.O.D. was pretty bad ass. However it's like a lot of you already said, I never considered them a punk band. They emerged a little too late to be prancing around with that title. Bands like them, Rancid, and Blink 182 tried way way way too hard to be punk rock whereas bands like the Ramones, Black Flag and Dead Kennedys it just came naturally. Those bands had the attitude and the piece of mind. All the 90's "punk" bands lacked both of those things and just opted for the image. A little too watered down, whiney and too poppy. Their music sounded vaguely like punk, but had no balls, no attitude and no intelligence and when your music doesn't have either of those then where do you get off goin around labeling yourself as such?

I believe a little band from Detroit with attitude out the ass said it best, "Why Be Something That You're Not?"

Yep, he's been around since 1988 and hasn't matured a bit. He sucked back then, through the 90s and he sucks today. He wasn't even singing good, either. Of course, when you're 17, you hate the current trend of music and are stuck what you listened to when you were 12-13. His maturity should be carded.
