EDDIE VEDDER Blasts MITT ROMNEY Over '47 Percent' Comments - Sep. 24, 2012
According to The Pulse Of Radio, PEARL JAM singer Eddie Vedder blasted Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney over the latter's "47 percent" comments during a fundraiser for incumbent President Barack Obama. Romney has drawn harsh criticism for comments he made at a May fundraiser, which were disclosed last week on a video, in which he characterized the approximate 47 percent of the U.S. population that doesn't pay federal income tax — while still paying a number of other taxes — as people who saw themselves as victims entitled to government handouts.

Speaking at the Obama fundraiser, during which he also played a short solo set, Vedder said, "It's very upsetting to hear a presidential candidate be so easily dismissive of such a ginormous amount of the population."

Vedder added that a government-sponsored training program for security guards helped him early in life, allowing him to make a living while also pursuing his dream of becoming musician.

He explained, "It was that job which allowed me to keep affording to guitars and microphones. For me, it all began with that ability to get the proper training for a decent job."

Vedder then introduced President Obama, who thanked the musician and said, "For you to share that story with us, Eddie, speaks volumes not only about you but about this country. That story captures better than anything what this campaign is about and what this country is about."

Vedder played his set on mandolin, performing "Rise", "Without You", a cover of James Taylor's "Millworker" and Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World".

The event, which took place at the home of Lisa DeBartolo, daughter of former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., raised $1.7 million from its 85 guests for the President's re-election.

Vedder, who's become very politically outspoken in the past decade, told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he was reluctant to voice his opinion earlier in his career. "I've always been wary, you know, speaking from some kind of a podium as a singer in a rock band," he said. "First of all, I think it's ridiculous that it should be left to the singers of rock bands to have to bring up these issues. But then again, the arts are always going to reflect society, and there could be a responsibility there."

Obama is every bit the pocket politician bush or anyone else has been or in Romney's case would be.

Wars, The NDAA, Sec. 1021, H.R. 347, sicking the DEA on Legal Dispensaries, the list goes On & On.

The only difference between the big O & Mittens is their line of Bullshit & how they deliver it.

If we want real change we have to get away from the two part system, it's failed!

Be Libertarian for one election,
Vote Gary Johnson 2012!

He will be on the Ballot in all 50 States!

Johnson sounds better than Obama and Romney, but I have yet to hear any real details on how he would accomplish anything he says. The biggest question, as a Libertarian, how would he get a Democratic/Republican controlled Congress to work with him?

47% of americans don't pay taxes because they don't have income. willard's income is mostly investment based, which is why he pays in the 15% tax bracket. i don't like romney at all; mainly because he's a bimi netanyahu bitch puppet who could very well get us into a war of choice with iran, a country that's done nothing wrong. but i equally don't like obama, and must say he and his supporters make a whole lot to do about nothing in regards to willard's income taxes paid, bain capital etc. i'm voting third party or writing in ron paul, unlike the 99% of the electorate who will vote for one of the two guys the media and special interests chose for you ...

Mitt Romney should get the word "Corrupted" tattooed on his forehead.

At least Obama fought like any other normal person has to get where he is today. So what if hes Islamic, that is why freedom of religion is still upon us today. Obama's bloodline traces back all the way to Africa, I am certain his family has struggled just as we all have.

Next time put the blame on the president who bombed our own buildings and sent airstrikes down on the pentagon! Bush is the reason our military spending went through the roof!

Two words - Navy Seals!

They got a tape of Romney strategizing with his people, saying the absolute truth about the welfare state, (which Obama is growing intentionally to grow his base of government dependency) and this is supposed ot be controvertial of course. Dummies like the liberal base and Vedder of course fall for it hook line and sinker, while all the TRUE vile and dispicable things said by the people on his side are ignored. I've never seen a more bizarre Alice-in-Wonderland reality that the oen we're living in today, it's truly upside-down. Hard to stay sane to be honest. I've actually been nervous for months thinkign about how nervous I'm going to be on election day. I'm going to have to get plasted and pass out, and find out what happened in the morning I think. If you think Romney is all for the working man, you are right, he would love to demish lablor laws and out is back in the mills 16 hours a day 7 days a week with no rights.

All of us arguing over politics and taking sides is part of the overall plan for all these goons. Every one of these politicians and the majority of any of these "rock stars" who get involved in this bullshit are all multi-millionares themselves. Think about it, do any of them really understand what you feel like filling your gas tank or shopping cart? Ego runs the show for them, they are for the most part clueless. Eddie's been rich for 20 years and wants to relate to us about his job when he was a teenager? Give it up dude, fuck off!

...about LIBERALS being intollerant of opposition all the time? Ah, yes, when a right nut speaks it's called freedom of speech but when the left speaks, why that is just communist propaganda! I see, not the least bit hypocritical.

Indeed, there's no difference between Obama and Romney. That's why KKKoch Bros are spending 400 mln to elect Romney and Karl Rove UnAmerican crossroads over 1billion. Also, that is why they pushed for and won the Citizen United aka let's have the government that represents multinational corporations WHOEVER they chose to defraud next. Why go thru all that effort and spend all that money, where the differences between B and R are negligible?

And, PLEASE, stop bringing up the most easily refuted "you didn't built that"! Why don't you listen to the whole speech? Every succesful effort, not just business, was built by a TEAM. There are no self-enterpreneurs. Disagree? Let's see: So you bought the building materials and built everything from top to bottom, answered every call by yourself and met with every single client by yourself, while simultaneously drafting all memos and keeping up with the mail and complaints. No one is a one-man show, to borrow from "Cars". So if you have a business, guess what? YOU did NOT built that. You AND your team did. That's what he was saying and it's something so obvious and sensible that every REASONABLE Republican would agree. United we stand, divided we fall.

But you don't care, do you? Like a lion stalking its prey you wait for your enemy to say ANYTHING that you can edit to air as outrageous communist propaganda, aren't you? Like Jon Steward said, "A party too patriotic for facts".

Four Americans killed including our US embassator in Libya is a "bumb in the road". That is a sickening statement from a terrible president. I could go on for days!! Also eddie from pearl jam makes terrible depressing music. Notice that i dont even take the time to start their names in capital letters.

Instead you want 4 years of Corporations being people, tax cuts for job creators (that worked so well for the GOP the last time!) and someone whose own party doesn't even love.

No..I want what i just stated above to be dealt with and fixed. For my sake and more importantly my kids sake. I don't know for sure if Romney is the answer but i do know that obama's not the answer. I vote for who i think will do a better job. As a republican i voted for Clinton and for the most part was satisfied with his 8 years. In 2007 i was kind of liking what obama was saying until obama said he wanted to "fundamently change America" 4 years ago, i knew right then and there obama wasn't getting my vote!!!

If you hate both candidates the lesser of two evils is the guy who has to worry about running for a second term... ;)

You are a bunch of retards. You don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. You don't have a clue about Obama or the Romney fucktard whose cock you endlessly drool upon. I don't like the guy in office, either. But jesus fuck, think before you spout your stupid fucking flapping heads. There is no socialism, no restrictions upon your mindless churches, or any other inane garbage you post. You're just being contrary bitches.

Sheesh...no need to blast his music for his political views. It amazes me how childish people here are sometimes.

Who gives a fuck what this has-been leftist thinks? Vedder is nothing but a socialist who makes out good on what he hates; capitalism.

Liberals and socialists are the worst hypocrites there are. That, and some of the biggest liars i have ever seen.

"ginormous amount of the population." What an eloquent speaker. Maybe he said something else completely. But he probably mumbles when he talks like he does when he sings.

If you want to be a true American, you vote for Romney. Otherwise, get the fuck out of the country.
