Homeless shelters. Soup kitchens. AA meetings. Clothing drives. Elderly care. Meals on Wheels. Free health care. Disaster relief. Just a few of the things provided by religious institutions. Yeah – I know there’s a down side as well. But don’t fail to acknowledge the many good things that are done in the name of religion just because there are also some bad ones.

I'm not religious, but I' don't consider myself an atheist, and I don;'t have to get on my high horse and pretend to be superior and denigrate those who do believe. I respect most religious people, except for followers on a certain prolific religion of course, but I have no respect for atheists who have to get in everyone's face and try to remove other people's beliefs from the public square.

Most people use their religion as an excuse to be a total douchebag. You manage to do it without religion. Congrats!

The fact that secular institutions also practice philanthropy does not diminish the philanthropy that is performed by religious institutions. The fact that wicked people commit evil acts under the guise of religion does not change the fact that good people perform benevolent acts under the name of religion. Very little in this world is either all good or all bad, and there is a good side to religion despite the fact that there is also a bad.
