LED ZEPPELIN: O2 Concert DVD Release Announcement Coming Soon - Sep. 9, 2012
On Saturday (September 8), LED ZEPPELIN posted a cryptic graphic on its Facebook page that is believed to be releated to the imminent announcement of the DVD/CD release of the band's 2007 reunion for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert at London's O2 Arena.

An image with the number "Five" — in ZEPPELIN logo font — has sent the rumor mill into overdrive as fans speculate about its meaning.

One clue may have been offered by LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page's manager, Peter Mensch, who alluded to the upcoming release in a tweet on Saturday, writing, "it's almost here. I've seen it and heard it. almost 5 years to the day."

Mensch was more specific in a July 9 tweet when he wrote, "today, [producer/engineer Alan] Moulder continues with his stellar mixing of the O2 show. it's been 5 years coming and it's almost here."

The new LED ZEPPELIN set is rumored to consist of a double DVD accompanied by two CDs and is expected to be released in November.

An estimated nine million people applied for the 18,000 tickets to the O2 Arena show, which featured Jason Bonham taking his late father's place behind the drum kit.

In its review of the concert, NME.com wrote that LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant spoke little during the show, but when he did, it was mostly to pay tribute to Ertegun, who he said after first encore "Whole Lotta Love", "ran the best label in the world" in Atlantic Records.

Speaking to the Los Angeles radio station KLOS in December 2010, Jason stated about the prospect of the concert being released on DVD, "Nothing is official, as yet. I only know that because Robert had said that he'd watched it. I really do hope that it eventually will see the light of day. It's just nice to know that Robert had seen it, so I knew something, but it was nice that he rang up and said, 'Wow, it sounded great.' Fingers crossed, everybody… fingers crossed."

In an interview with U.K.'s Telegraph.co.uk, Plant was asked about ZEPPELIN's 2007 reunion concert. "I really had a wonderful time," said Plant. "It was the best LED ZEPPELIN gig since 1975."

When asked if he would do it again, Plant replied, "I don't think so. You've got to have a lot in common with the people you're working with at this time in your life. Everything has to move on and forward, in all relationships.

"I know that bands that haven't put out a record for 10 years are playing to 20,000 people a night. But that's not the achievement. The achievement is to knock yourself out. It's a very selfish thing. The tail must never wag the dog."

A few months back, radio personality and "That Metal Show" co-host Eddie Trunk tweeted, "Heard from a very reliable source backstage at AEROSMITH show that there will be some sort of LED ZEPPELIN activity around Christmas."

That's why they don't need to tour! The demand for Zeppelin is so great they will make millions on just this DVD. I can't wait! There isn't enough Zeppelin products out there!

Of millions of people being born too late, myself included. An aquantaince of mine went with his wife and son in 1980, but I didn't get to know him until he was 60 but I sometimes envy his son getting to see Led Zep at age 7.

I like my news official. With that said, I don't feel too surprised.

I like that XMas Day, "Holy shit, look what I got!!!" feeling. This is an, "Oh, OK, I guess I'm happy" moment.

Only thing I'm wondering is how they're going to fix the spectacular botch in Dazed and Confused, where Page goes back to the main riff early. Knowing how Page slices things together, I know he won't let that stay; just wondering if they recorded any rehearsals to fix it with. They're certain not bopping off to Shepperton Studios to film footage to match this time.

$$$ in sight, but I guess that's worth it.

Clever business strategy like Manik said... Capitalise on your legendary name, keep the mystique high (don't tweet, delete your official FB page, get BM to talk about you thrice a year at most) and do a gig every 10 years to keep the demand high too. The new way to go. Obscure black metal acts do that too, they release seemingly low-key vynil albums in limited numbers to keep a demand and mystique, and it works not to bad (of course on an altogether lower level than Zep but still)

Don't like these guys since they won't even give Sam Dunn the time of day. Whether they like it or not, they were/are a huge influence to quite a bit of metal bands. For Page and Plant to want to distance/ignore that fact smacks of being pompous and elitism. These guys spent a good part of their career ripping off Blues legends from the Mississippi delta all the way up to Chicago.

And Page's "chainsaw" solos are mediocre at best.

Since this was originally a charity event, it would be my hope that the profits from the sales of this (aside from the costs of production, etc.), would go to the charity it was originally intended for.

Aztec: I think you're right about Jimmy not wanting to release until things were perfect.

I wish it hadn't taken 5 years, but with Zep fans it could've taken 10 and it would still sell amazingly well.

I have no doubt it will be worth the wait.

I will buy it when it first comes out. From some of the youtube bootleg stuff you can tell Jimmy was de-tuned, as "Percy" can't hit the notes he once could. But it's STILL Led Zeppelin!!!

All the reports and reviews were that the concert was unfortunately pretty bad.
What did they expect? Lamb of God practices 5 times a week even when not on tour. They will always sound spot-on live. Led Zep had almost never actually played before with Jason on drums. And those Zep songs are monstrous and epic. Tough feat to pull off for them especially when Page was always more of a studio guitarist than live one, with those dynamically tough-to-recreate song structures.
Long live Zep the Kings of Rock but I am worried about this DVD. I hope it doesn't tarnish their legend.

Will be so great, and they can edit out the feedback through the whole show. Here's something that can hold you over until then. Whole show. Pretty amazing how far cell phone cameras have come in only 5 years.

Hate the de-tuned key of the songs from that show. 1/2 step de-tune? Fine. Whole step de-tune? Maybe. More than that? Just plain bad sounding.....It's sacrilege to shift legendary songs we've been hearing in the right key for many decades. Bad taste.

All you morons commenting on downtuning - they didn't do it to be "heavier" like some mallcore band. It's been quarter of a century since they played this stuff live - as the singer gets older, the voice gets lower. They did it to accomodate to Plant, thanks to which his vocals were pretty okay in the songs. I don't like downtuned sound either as it loses crisp, but it wasn't obnoxious in Zep's case and you wouldn't know what key is Starway if you hadn't checked with a reference. Longtime bands like Metallica or Van Halen, where you can hear the singer struggling each show, should follow Zep's example and downtune permanently.

No one on here thinks they tune down to be heavier. We're all aware of why they do it. But at this whole step or more lower key the vibe and clarity of these songs is lost on the listener.
