MEGADETH Kicks Off 'Countdown To Extinction' 20th-Anniversary Tour In Colombia (Video) - Sep. 2, 2012
MEGADETH kicked off the "Countdown To Extinction" 20th-anniversary tour earlier tonight (Sunday, September 2) at Royal Center in Bogotá, Colombia.

Commented MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson: "Not that it's a competition or anything, BUT Bogota set the bar REALLY high for audience participation tonight!! The ENTIRE audience coordinated holding up custom Vic Rattlehead [MEGADETH's mascot] signs during the song 'Countdown To Extinction', custom dollar/peace signs during 'Peace Sells....' and killer Vic Rattlehead masks everywhere!!! One of the coolest things I've EVER seen at our shows....gave me goose bumps!!"

The setlist was as follows:

01. Trust
02. Hangar 18
03. She-Wolf
04. A Tout Le Monde
05. Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
06. Public Enemy No. 1
07. Skin o' My Teeth
08. Symphony of Destruction
09. Architecture of Aggression
10. Foreclosure of a Dream
11. Sweating Bullets
12. This Was My Life
13. Countdown to Extinction
14. High Speed Dirt
15. Psychotron
16. Captive Honour
17. Ashes in Your Mouth

Encore:

18. Peace Sells
19. Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

Video footage of the "Countdown To Extinction" (the song) performance from tonight's concert can be seen below.

MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine previously stated about the band's plans for the "Countdown To Extinction" anniversary celebration, "MEGADETH will be going down to South America, we're going celebrate 'Countdown To Extinction''s 20th anniversary and 'Peace Sells… But Who's Buying''s 25th anniversary, so depending on where we're at we might end up doing more than one show. We're definitely going to do 'Countdown To Extinction' in its entirety and if we get a second night, we'll probably play most of 'Peace Sells'. There's a couple of songs on there I don't really like playing anymore, but other than that, it's a fun record to play."

MEGADETH's fifth LP, "Countdown To Extinction" was released on July 14, 1992 through Capitol Records. The band's best-selling full-length CD to date, it was certified double-platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) for U.S. shipments in excess of two million copies. The album also produced the band's most successful hit singles, "Symphony Of Destruction", "Sweating Bullets", "Skin O' My Teeth" and "Foreclosure Of A Dream".

very cool. Not my favorite album of theirs (that would be Rust in Peace) but still a solid album to tour behind

That's what I figured, three of the songs never played before. Should be interesting when they decide to play the Peace Sells album, which songs he doesn't like to play anymore. I know The Conjuring is one, but will the other be Devil's Island or Bad Omen? Will be very cool to hear My Last Words and Black Friday again though.

Definitely Bad Omen. Devil's Island has nothing to do with the devil, it was written and based around the island from the movie Papillon.

To Dave saying something moronic leading to the bands extinction. In fact it's kind of hypocritical for him to play the songs off this album since they were written during the Bush administration. "Read my lips"

Bush promised no new taxes, but he was basically politically blackmailed into raising them by the democrat congress. Do some research. Then again, nevermind becasue I know facts don't matter to a lefty.

Not to mention, it's more than fitting to play them now, since they fit 10x better now than they did then. He was pretty high back then in his dem days, after all.

Facts don't seem to to mean much to ANY "wingers". Get it right. As soon as you start blaming the other side of the aisle for anything, using "right", "left", "conservative", "liberal" when poking fun or playing the blame game... common sense seems to be a lost cause with whoever is making the bullshit statements. We seem to have lost the ability to work together. We'd rather be divisive and insult those with different political beliefs than our own, and that is quite possibly the biggest thing ruining our country.

Awesome CD, though I would have to put it behind "Rust In Peace" and "Peace Sells....". Unfortunately the success Mustaine experienced with this album proved to be so addictive that 3 albums later we would find them releasing "Risk", which almost destroyed them - as Mustaine admitted himself that he handed over the reigns to A & R people in the hopes of getting more.

So yes indeed, as good as this album is, it would be the beginning of the oddessey of sellout albums that followed.

Thank heavens that's over.

I was there!...great show dudes, CTE is not my fav album but it was really cool, however not everything is as good as it seems, just one week before the show the concert was scheluded in a twice bigger place, in fact the concert was promoted and sold as a "festival" in a open air venue, beer zones etc etc...but those motherfucking promoters changed it at the las minute to a 3000 people capacity venue!...as usual they took the money of the fans!!...greetings

After this album came out Dave started wearing flannel vests to appeal to the grunge element. Needless to say it didn't work.

Impossible to pick a favorite Megadeth record - too many that are too good to chose from - but this is as good as any of them and I would love to hear it performed in its entirety.

So they've got a relatively new record out but they're touring behind a 20 year old record instead? For this and many, many other reasons this band is such a turnoff anymore.

To Dave Mustache-Ride:

Why don't you and Uncle Tedley go play a grab ass in the woods. We don't care if you are log cabin Republicans:)

How is it that after 9/11 all these "celebs" come out of the woodwork, jumping on the political bandwagon supporting the NeoCon war criminals, when its obvious these people never read a book in their lives?

I'll tell you why. Because you think it'll get you free publicity and safe cover to stand side by side with cowards like Cheney, Rumsefeld and the like who always want war to line their pockets as long as someone else does the suffering, no matter what innocent country they have to scapegoat.

Who next? Syria then Iran. But its ok as long as Romney and MegaDave have their mansions, they don't have to talk truth, and can whine about the "socialist Kenyan guy."

You're a big puss and a tool.
