GODSMACK Frontman Training To Run A Marathon For Charity - Aug. 30, 2012
GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna has started training to run the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, which is scheduled to take place November 11 in San Antonio, Texas. He has taken to his official Facebook page to ask sponsors and fans alike to support his run to help him raise money for children's hospitals around the country through a charity called 4-LOVE-24.

The Rock 'N' Roll Marathon series is a collection of road running events owned and operated by Competitor Group, Inc. The series is known for lining race routes with live bands, cheerleaders and themed water stations.

Rock 'N' Roll Marathon started as a single race in 1998, and is now said to be the "world's largest running series," with a global tour schedule of 27 events in 2012.

Erna wrote on Facebook, "Started officially training 2 weeks ago for the 26.2 mile Rock N Roll Marathon in San Antonio, Nov. 11th 2012! Hoping to get sponsors and fans to help support me and raise money for children's hospitals around the country. Follow me on sullyerna.com, godsmack.com, twitter and facebook for updates on my training, cheer me on and wish me luck!!"

GODSMACK recently scrapped a number of dates on its European tour due to Erna's vocal problems. The singer told The Pulse Of Radio that he's fine now, and explained what happened. "It was actually a bit of an infection that I had in the back of my throat, and I was exhausted, I hadn't slept in three days when we got to Europe, and it was just a combination of being like really tired, singing exhausted and just pushed myself a little too hard," he said. "And I injured it enough that I had to kind of shut it down, but it wasn't like a permanent injury or something like that. It was the first and only time it's ever happened in my career, and I don't expect this to become a habit."

The European jaunt was GODSMACK's first in nine years, although they were only able to complete two of the fourteen shows, in London and Belgium.

Ran my first (and last) marathon last year. 3:55 at 9 minutes per mile. Pretty good for a 41 year old dirtbag. Represented my metal brethren by wearing my Maiden Killers t-shirt. Oh, and Godsmack sucks.

He should just keep running until he gets to the ocean, then he should swim and don't stop

Not understanding all the hate for this guy. Granted Godsmack isn't the 2nd coming of Led Zeppelin, but they've had some good moments, and it's good to see more "rock stars" doing these kinds of charity events.

He was wearing a knee brace while walking around the stage. This can't end well.
