DOKKEN: 'Broken Bones' Album Details Revealed - Aug. 28, 2012
Frontiers Records has set a September 25 North American release date for "Broken Bones", the 11th studio album from melodic hard rockers DOKKEN. The effort will be released in two configurations: standard CD and limited-edition CD in digipak with a bonus DVD, which features a comprehensive "Making Of The Album" documentary.

"Broken Bones" was produced by DOKKEN frontman and namesake Don Dokken and was mixed by Bob St. John (EXTREME, DURAN DURAN, COLLECTIVE SOUL) and Wyn Davis (BLACK SABBATH, DIO, WHITESNAKE) and mastered by famed engineer Maor Appelbaum (HALFORD, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, SEPULTURA). The new set features a return to the band's signature sound of catchy melodies, hot riffs and monster production.

"Broken Bones" track listing:

01. Empire
02. Broken Bones
03. Best Of Me
04. Blind
05. Waterfall
06. Victim Of The Crime
07. Burning Tears
08. Today
09. For The Last Time
10. Fade Away
11. Tonight

The drums for the CD were laid down at MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's The Atrium studio in Calabasas, California.

Don Dokken stated in a recent interview about the "Broken Bones" album title, "[It] is a metaphor that we all have broken bones, be it from an accident, failed relationship, or a broken heart. Everybody gets wounded as we go through life, but, as they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

Dokken previously described the band's new material as "very uptempo and heavy." He added, "We know our fans like the classic DOKKEN sound, and this is where our new music is headed. It's been a band of brothers doing what we love: 'music.'"

Regarding the new songs' lyrical approach, Dokken said, "I write what comes from the heart, I don't believe in writing music trying to repeat what you've already done. I understand what the fans want but as an artist I see no point in painting the same picture over and over."

The first single from "Broken Bones" will be "Empire". An audio sample of the song is available for streaming using the player below.

"Empire" audio sample:

The cooperation between Frontiers and DOKKEN started with the European release of the group's "Lightning Strikes Again" CD in 2007. The album marked a return to DOKKEN's signature style with melodic hooklines and blazing guitar riffs that epitomized the band's sound on such records as "Tooth And Nail", "Under Lock And Key", "Back For The Attack" and "Dysfunctional".

DOKKEN's current lineup consists of Don Dokken on lead vocals, Jon Levin on guitar, Sean McNabb on bass and Mick Brown on drums.

Dokken have released tons of memorable stuff since the 80's...looking forward to the next one. And Wild Mick remains one of the best drummers out there.

His voice sounds in good shape on this song. I also think he sounds fine live. Sounds better than vince neil and coverdale now n days (i know thats setting the bar incredibly low...)

Back in the 80s it seemed like Dokken was the opener for every hard rock / metal show that came around. I saw them a bunch and thought they never pulled it off live. I could never figure out why as I always thought their albums were pretty good.

The music sounds good but yes, he's voice is long gone.

What a shame. I really liked his voice.

Not what I expected. This COULD be a decent release without Lynch. Of course, time will tell once the album is released.

Absolutely. Love the sarcasm. It looks like it was done by a five year old kid for Christ's sake.

Then again, they've always had horseshit record art so I guess we shouldn't be terribly surprised at this point.

Okay...I know you want to keep making money Don and company, but you might want to consider retiring soon. You are 59 Don!!

Dokken has been fairly decent the since Erase the Slate to present, but each album is about 50 percent good. There are always a few great songs, but not an album's worth. Levin is good, but not Lynch, and not much originality. He tries his damnest to sound like Lynch with the squeals and tones and scales he does. Maybe that is their "sound", but Lynch created that. Levin is a copycat. I preferred some of the Jon Norum stuff or Reb Beach albums better than the last couple.

But when is it time to retire? All these old bands need some kind of qualifier to move them into retirement. They see the Stones etc and say well we can do that. NO YOU CAN"T. Scorpions got the hint and are backing out finally with a good last record and tour. As long as Crue and the famous bands of the era keep going, the second tier of Dokken types will keep going. Time for the house of cards to fall. Open up space for cool new bands in their 20's , much like they were when they started.

If someone told Don in his 20's that he would be 59 playing clubs wearing a wig doing Dokken tunes in 2012, he would tell you to fuck off. He would say not on his life!

Why should bands spend a ton of jack on an album cover when the majority of people are going to download it illegally anyway?

So is Mick Brown in the band or what? In all Dokken stories he's listed as the drummer and then in the Nugent/T&N/DUI stories he's ex-Dokken. Not that I really care but WTF?

this should be titled "broken vocal chords" ... saw them live last summer and don was horrible ... it was painful to watch/listen ... always have liked dokken ... even without george ... just shows you how effective all the recording gear is with making a washed-up singer sound relevant again ...

Gonna buy it. Just won't waste my $ seeing them live. Again, something weird. First song is Empire & isn't the T&N release called Killing The Empire or something? And Lynch Mob have a song called Waterfall on their Syzygy ep. Just coincidence?

You haven't released an album worth a shit since Back For The Attack! Your voice is shot and your replacement band blows!
