ILL NIÑO: New Album Title, Release Date Revealed - Aug. 25, 2012
New Jersey/New York's ILL NIÑO has set "Epidemia" as the title of its sixth full-length album, due on October 22 via Victory Records. The recording sessions for the CD took place in Hoboken, New Jersey; Austin, Texas; and Denver, Colorado.

ILL NIÑO drummer Dave Chavarri previously stated about the upcoming album: "This time around, we want to explore Latin and tribal rhythms we have never explored in the past five releases, giving us no musical boundaries at all."

ILL NIÑO's fifth LP, "Dead New World", sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 164 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous effort, "Enigma", opened with 5,000 units to land at No. 145 back in March 2008.

"Dead New World" was released on October 26, 2010 via Victory Records.

Just a few Latin dudes making metal music. Nothing wrong with that. In fact the first album they had was good stuff

Nothing wrong with them making music. The problem is that the music is crap.

Even if the music is crap to some ppls minds, it's still an attempt to make metal music and have a new culture of Latinos engage in metal. Support metal bro.

That's...stupid. Nobody should support bad bands. It's like saying support Creed because they're Rock.

I like it when a band comes around and mixes metal with more ethnic music.

Sepultura 'Roots' anyone?

As nice as it is to have Kinkade drumming in Soulfly, I always felt Chavarri would have been the perfect fit. Dudes an old school thrasher behind the kit (pre Ill Niño) and has pretty good knack for creating that Latin and south American tribal feel

Their debut was quite good for what it was, but it didn't get a strong enough push from Roadrunner at the time. 'Confessions' was more polished but the songs weren't as good imo. That was their biggest selling album. After that they just went downhill for a while. Their Victory Records debut wasn't bad, and they had moved away from nu-metal by that point, but it wasn't all that impressive really.

I always thought they were going to blow up though. They had the right songs, the right image, a marketable frontman, and a decent amount of record company support. I'd say the problem is that by the time they released an album that was more commercially palatable(i.e radio friendly production) in 2003 with 'Confessions', nu-metal was on the way out. It did well, and i believe was certified gold? But i'm sure they could have had a platinum record somewhere along the line if they had maybe broken into the market earlier.

How the hell do bands like this still earn a living when they sell 3000 records? That doesn't even cover the cost of making the damn thing. Do all the people who download their stuff for free (= steal their music) at least pay to see their concerts or what? I don't get it.

That's 3000 just in the first week...

I'm sure it topped out at at least 4800. ;)

These guys are still around? I remember I sorta liked them about 10 years. Their second album was pretty boring though and I stopped listening to them, and haven't really heard anything about them since about that time period...

I saw Ill Nino open for Soulfly a few years ago and their set was amazingly polished and very well performed. Then the big fight broke out a few gigs later between the bands over a comment made about Ill Nino using pre-recorded tracks live. Now I have to wonder if they did because they made poor Max look like a homeless hermit clearing his throat on-stage for 45 minutes. Either way, they are a pretty tight band and offer some hefty percussion that you get in many bands.

We're usually a fan of Chavarri's work so naturally we're excited to hear the latest 'Latin and tribal rhythms'.
