SEBASTIAN BACH Says That He Is 'Friends' With JON BON JOVI Again - Aug. 20, 2012
Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach says that he is "friends" with Jon Bon Jovi again after he didn't speak to the BON JOVI frontman for many years following a dispute over money.

Despite the fact that the 1989 debut album from the Bach-fronted SKID ROW went five times platinum and produced several hit singes — including "18 And Life", "I Remember You" and "Youth Gone Wild", there was a lot of bitterness surrounding its success, largely due to the fact that in return for the helping hands of Jon Bon Jovi, SKID ROW reportedly had to enter a publishing deal with Jon's newly established Underground Music Company in which they waived their rights to publishing royalties. All money was paid to Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. After a public dispute, Richie Sambora gave his share of the money back to SKID ROW.

Speaking to ArtScenics TV this past June at the Hellfest festival in Clisson, France, Bach stated about his relationship with Jon Bon Jovi (see video below), "Bon Jovi took us on our first tour and we signed some papers with him that he got a cut of, if we made it big, that he would get compensated for helping us out. Nobody expected us to get as big as we got. Nobody thought that we would become a big band. That happens all the time in the music industry. Jon was like, 'We'll take you on tour, but if you guys make it big,' then he gets a cut of it. So I was bitter about that for awhile, but then I realized that we probably wouldn't have made it as big, or maybe at all, if he didn't take us."

He continued, "I actually had dinner with Jon a couple of years ago. We were staying at the Mandarin Oriental in London — me and Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer] — and we were sitting there. And the waitress says, 'Hey, guess who's over in the corner.' And me and Axl go, 'Who?' She said, 'Jon Bon Jovi.' And I go, 'Get the fuck out of here.' He was in the corner. And I didn't know what to do. 'Cause we had had words… Most of them were mine. [laughs] So I go, 'You know what?! Fuck this. I'm gonna go over there and say 'Hi' to him.' 'Cause we used to be great, great friends; I had Christmas dinner at his house and stuff. So I stood up and walked over towards Jon, and Jon was looking at me, going, 'Are you gonna be a dick or are you gonna be nice?' He's looking at me, like, 'What are you gonna do? What are you gonna say?' And I was like, 'Hey, man, how is it going?' And he was, like, 'Hey, man?' And we stood up and we hugged and then he came over to me and Axl's table and we drank about 15 bottles of red wine, had a great time. He gave me his phone number and I've texted him a couple of times. He's a good guy. We're friends again."

Why have JBJ and Bruce Springsteen not collaborated? They are both from Jersey and that seems to be important to both of them.

MASTER OF CEREMONIES: Danny Devito

“The "Come Together: Jon Bon Jovi & Friends" benefit concert was organized by the Long Branch Police Department, “The Asbury Park Press”, and FPI Concerts, along with Jon Bon Jovi. The concert was to honor slain Long Branch police officer Sgt. Patrick King and raise money for the “Sgt. Patrick King Memorial Fund” to provide for his family. King, 45-year-old father of two young boys, was fatally shot on 20 Nov 1997 by a fugitive who had vowed to kill himself and a police officer rather than be captured and returned to jail.

Twenty musicians with ties to the Jersey shore music scene answered Jon Bon Jovi's call, including Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa and several members of the then-disbanded E Street Band (Clarence Clemons, Danni Frederici, Patti Scialfa, Little Steven, and Max Weinberg), Southside Johnny, Bobby Bandiera, and Richie Sambora among others.
Actor Danny DeVito was the event's MC.

This was a near-reunion of the fabled E Street Band and Bruce's first full-length electric gig following the acoustic “The Ghost Of Tom Joad” solo tour. Springsteen spent much of (or maybe all) the night onstage, singing or playing guitar only.”

He signs his rights to John and Ritchie knowingly, then it is their fault? Wow, what an idiot!
Surprised that Ritchie actually gave his cut of the royalties back, I wouldn't have.

How did Bon Jovi rip them off? They were massive back then, and they gave them an option to come out with them on the proviso that if they got big, they get a cut. That's smart business. They didn't HAVE to go out with them. There wasn't anything unclear about it. It's not like they went out and then demanded money for making them big out of nowhere.

That's why it's called the music "business." Don't willfully sign stuff and then complain about the stuff you willfully signed. The time to make those decisions is before you sign the papers.

That's a dick move by a bigger band. They take some up and coming new band, just happy to play for 50 people, then make them sign their life over by getting the priviledge of playing with the bigger band.

Everyone has laughed at JBJ & his band at one time or another...and, I'm willing to bet once Skid Row's debut started taking off, Baz & crew were like "Fuck them. We don't need them. We're gonna be bigger than them someday" Axl may have said the same-I don't know-someone would have to ask Baz.

You know what the moral of this whole story is? JBJ and his band are STILL playing arenas around the world, multiple nights in some cities. There's hardly the amount of drama surrounding them as is the case with other bands.

Am I a diehard Jovi fan? No. But have they played the system correctly and still do so in 2012? Hell yes. Props to them for that.

And, as a side note...the women at their shows are 10x better looking than at any Skid or GNR show.

You're right. Not a fan either but you can't deny that BJ as a band have done things perfectly: still famous (for playing, not for being drama queens), recording albums (like them or not), playing big places around the world, mostly known for their music, etc. One can say their become way softer when the did came out (which is the truth), but if that is what they wanted I don't see the problem, poppier than heavier? Fine by them and good for the ones that like that stuff. Don't like it? No one forces me to hear it but TBH I like a few songs from their earlier stuff and to me Sambora is an excellent guitar player.

Bach, based on recent live videos, cannot.

It does seem like a shitty thing, what Bon Jovi did to Skid Row - but it's business. Big business. Bon Jovi rolled the dice, and it paid off big time.

Skid Row handed them those dice when they signed.

Skid Row blew up, Bon Jovi made cash - considering how many bands never get out of their local bar everybody ought to be damn happy.

but i'm really looking forward to seeing springsteen in a couple of weeks at wrigley field. never seen him before & he's never played wrigley so that should be pretty cool.

he owes JBJ an apology. He signed a deal. didn't like it later, but give me a break. JBJ, while I can't stomach the music, is a great businessman.

I'm surprised JBJ even spoke to him. He's rubbing elbows with the big boys now, having parties at his place with McCartney, Roger Waters, that ilk.

I still wonder how Bon Jovi survived the death of hairmetal, when some better bands are lucky to play a state fair. Bon Jovi was the face of HairMetal. Bubblegum songs, goofiest image. I guess JBJ face still sells.

Didn't Axl once punch some guy for calling him Bon Jovi? (or had his body guard do it).

The problem with SR and many other bands, they don't seek advice before signing. The music industry is a business, you need to protect your rights, measure every offer and understand the long term impacts, etc...

What JBJ did was not uncommon, it was also common for headline band to get a percentage of the merc. sales for the bands they were taking out on tour. It is a roll of the dice for the bands. Look at who owns the rights to the songs once they are recorded/released (depending on contract).

Read, reread, read again, and think long and hard about signing anything.

Whoever said jbj can sing is DEAF. They are literally one of the most cringeworthy bands ever to get lucky in the music industry. Jbj is a complete arrogant dickhead who can't write, sing, and has the stage presence of a spastic monkey. The rest of bon jovi are generic as it gets, sambora never impressed me, his playing and tone SUCK, and he has NO STYLE WHATSOEVER, these guys are literally torture to my ears. Who gives a shit if a bunch of middle aged fat chicks with no taste in music still buy his tickets, show's you how deaf and stupid the public is, even worse than the annoying Springsteen. Bon Jovi was always a pop band with a slight hard rock edge. What is the pop music of today? Nothing bigger than "young country". Blaze of Glory was his first step in that direction. If you listen to most of that stuff now it sounds like Bon Jovi and Def Leppard with a fiddle part here and there. He was smart to market himself to that audience. I have a friend that worked for a band who opened on a couple Bon Jovi tours. It was all middle-aged women who loved him then, and who listen to young country now. That's his target audience, and they have the money to blow 100 on a ticket to the show and 40 on a shirt. JBJ and Richie don't even travel by bus. They literally fly in and out for every show. They go home in between every damn show. That's how loaded they are.
