TOURNIQUET Explains New Album Cover - Aug. 18, 2012
Christian metallers TOURNIQUET will release thier new album, "Antiseptic Bloodbath", later this summer via Pathogenic Records. The CD will feature guest guitar solos by Marty Friedman (ex-MEGADETH), Karl Sanders (NILE), Pat Travers, Bruce Franklin (TROUBLE) and Santiago Dobles (AGHORA).

The "Antiseptic Bloodbath" cover artwork was created by Travis Smith of Seempieces, who has previously worked with OPETH, DEVIN TOWNSEND, NEVERMORE, ICED EARTH, DEATH and AMORPHIS, among many others.

Commented TOURNIQUET: "About the cover — the figure of Jesus: Flogging was part of the crucifixion process under Roman law. The whip used had multiple strands of leather with chunks of metal and bone embedded in each strand. As the prisoner was flogged, fist the skin would be battered, bruised and torn, and then the whip would start digging into the tissue below the skin until the flogging victim's skin was torn and hanging from their body in ribbons. The cover image is an artistic depiction, and as so a certain amount of license must be allowed for. While bones can be seen on the Christ figure on our cover, that shouldn't be misconstrued as being a rotting Christ. It's a depiction of the brutality endured by Jesus.

"Isaiah 52:14 - Just as there were many who were appalled at him, his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness.”

TOURNIQUET previously stated about the "Antiseptic Bloodbath" title track, "[It] speaks of the way our society prefers to sanitize brutality. We can have our tidy Christian faith, or continue with no faith at all, as long as we don't consider the painful bloody price that was paid for us.

"We use animals for our food, profit, and amusement, but would rather not know about the needless, often systematic suffering that is inflicted on them by a callous and greedy humanity. 'Don't upset my comfort zone — brutal truth, leave me alone.' The great news is that we have the ability to choose. This album encourages us to make good and humane choices in our daily lives that reflect these images."

TOURNIQUET's last studio release, 2003's "Where Moth and Rust Destroy" (Metal Blade), featured special guest appearances by guitarists Marty Friedman (ex-MEGADETH) and Bruce Franklin (TROUBLE).

this is absolute garbage. sounds like the guitar was plugged directly into a computer. vocals are super amateur. music is uninspired and unoriginal.

the cover artwork, however, is misleadingly rad.

This is like a bad home recording in a boombox. I hope we are only hearing a demo and not the real thing.

There's a nice guitar solo by Pat Travers at 4:24 on Antiseptic Bloodbath. Why he's involved with this I don't know yet....

After listening to this release and reading a handful of listener reviews, it seems allot of fans are on the fence with this album. Overall, I like the music, it does have some "old school" Tourniquet flavor. Unfortunately, I have to agree that the vocals are awefully annoying. IF Tourniquet release another album, it might really be beneficial for them to seek a new vocalist.

There will not be "another vocalist". Luke has been in the band 20 years. Why would there be another vocalist when this is probably their last album. By the way, this is a great album.

THE MUSIC IS COOL. I LIKE THE "HARDCORE" VOCAL STYLE BUT WHEN HE TRY'S TO GET ALL SPOOKY AND GOTHY THAT'S WHERE I TUNE OUT.

Must be a bunch of young metal heads on this thread. Tourniquet have been around 20+ years, a lot of that time distributed by or signed directly to Metal Blade. They've sold 100's of thousands of albums, had a video on heavy rotation on Headbanger's Ball ("Ark Of Suffering," one of Lars Ulrich's favorites back then), sold through the first pressing of their Metal Blade debut, Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm, and have stayed on independent labels the whole time. The new album was self-financed (through Kick Starter), so they didn't have a huge recording budget, but they did use Neil Kernon, and I think the sound they achieved sounds like classic thrash to me. These guys play music for all the right reasons...they love doing it. I'm surprised that the band recorded a new album to be truthful. Albums make no money, but the fans kept asking and put their money where their mouths were, and Tourniquet delivered. The vocalist has been in the band since the mid-90's. I don't care for his performance on this disc either...not sure what happened with Luke. He's always been the weakest link in the band, but he usually delivers a professional performance. This album is not his finest hour. I could see why people wouldn't like them, because they are Christians. I don't listen to Deicide, so I get that. I just don't get slagging off on their performances because of that. The music sounds great on this release. Awesome drumming from Ted, really nice guest soloists, and Aaron plays great rhythm guitar.

I have been a fan of the band since the beginning. And I contributed to the Kickstarter campaign to make this recording happen. Given that it was done on a shoestring budget I am extremely pleased. Yes Luke's vocals are the weakest link, yes it does sound like it was recorded on a shoestring budget, but the songs are great and I'm just happy that there is new Tourniquet material out.

As far as vocals though, the Lenaire/Ritter combination will never be beaten.

"plugging the guitar straight into a computer" is how albums are recorded now, since people insist on paying for music, instead of paying.

That said, METALLICA would be lucky to record an album that sounds this good.

The vocals are different but don't bother me (and I'm a singer so,I don't see the problem...) Certainly, the vocals here are better than those "witch screams" where it sounds like someone's on the toilet, trying to pass a pine-cone.

I'm an old fart that's been listening to these guys forever. Pleased with the album as a whole, and think " Fed by Ravens, Eaten by Vultures " is one of their best songs....ever.

Probably the next few years!! The people complaining about production are idiots!!!! Luke and Aaron trade off vocals, and sound great doing it. I'm not a 'Christian dude' who likes them for a particular reason. This band rules!! Super melodic, great harmoies, vocals that match, you can't beat it!!!!!! Production wise, are you kidding me??????????? It sounds incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!
