MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE Threatened With Lawsuit Over Drum Roller Coaster - Aug. 16, 2012
According to TMZ.com, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has been threatened with legal action by a Los Angeles engineer who claims that Lee stole his idea for a drum kit roller coaster.

Scott King sent a letter to CRÜE's lawyers claiming that he approached the drummer in 1991 to pitch him the idea for roller coaster setup that Lee has been using during the band's shows.

CRÜE's attorneys have since responded to King, insisting that Lee never received a pitch and that the two ideas in question were completely different.

Regarding how the idea of the 360-degree drum roller coaster came about, Tommy stated last year, "[It] came about from when I was a kid going to concerts. Whenever the drummer started his drum solo, I wondered why people would leave to go get a beer, buy a t-shirt, restroom, whatever!! I wanted to show people what happens behind the drum set, so I decided to expose it all by flipping the drums vertical, upside-down making them disappear and fly over the audience's heads! MÖTLEY CRÜE brings you on a thrill ride, jump on the 360! Let's do this! By the way, it's really fucking difficult playing while on this ride!"

Saw Motley the other day in Irvine... Tommy's drum solo was the most boring ass part of the entire night!

I hope it was no worse than the solo in the video above. I honestly don't understand how people can be "cheering" this cheese dick on. What the fuck is with all the techno shit going on. I know the dickhead is into techno, but what does it have to do with motley crue? Fucking lame to say the least.

Tommy Lee hates being in Motley Crue, but likes the paycheck. He is the only guy at the show who wants to hear his lame electronic music/techno/DJ wanna be crap drum solo. That is they type of music he wants to make......

Yes, I'm sure it was totally Tommy's idea ... just like his upside down drum solo had nothing to do with this old band that Mick Mars was in

If you're protective of your ideas then you get Tommy to sign an NDA before making a business proposal. I don't know how this guy approached Tommy but if it was backstage after a show and he "pitched" the idea during a meet and greet then he gets NOTHING. Ideas aren't worth money, executing the idea is worth money!

I remember back in the day when the drum kit was on a riser on the drummers kicked ass. We actually listened instead of watched.

Two best drum solos I have ever seen were Trilock Gurtu with the John McLaughlin Trio back in 92' I think, and Inferno of Behemoth a couple of years ago. Saw Frost put on a clinic once that was quite awesome too and the ultimate drum clinic with Billy Cobham was literally mind blowing.

Tommy Lee? I went and got a beer.

Tommy should do the drum solo over Shamu's pool, That way. When Lee is in the air upside down. He will fall from drum seat and then be eaten alive by the whale..

One day, real rock bands like Motley will all be gone and the Rock Show as we know it will be dead forever. They are there to entertain us, this isn't; thrash, grunge, nu-metal or pop rock it's just a straight up Arena Rock Show and they do it as good if not better than anyone! Enjoy it now, because it's all soon to be extinct.

Just because he can hit a drum upsidedown doesn't mean he's good at it.Being a drummer myself tells me that he sucks and has to have something visual to cover-up the fact that he really sucks at being a percussionist.

If this guy was so hell bent on getting his drum coaster idea out there in 91, he would of propositioned other drummers after Tommy ignored him or whatever, NOT go back to his basement and cry for 20 some odd years cause Tommy wasn't interested (if the meeting even ever happened).

FFS. People would moan that it's boring if he just did a normal style drum solo using an acoustic kit. He tries something a bit different and new using synths and samplers yet people still moan. I'm not a huge fan of the guy (was a big Crue fan when I was younger but kinda grew out of them) but at least he's trying something different to entertain the crowd.

Because you're a mediocre drummer at best. That doesn't happen to Peart or Portnoy aan d they don't need gimmicks because they can actually play.

Wow Tommy you are not popular at all. It's too bad too, because at one time you were considered one of the best. It's called biting the hand that feeds, All the bullshit. All the extra curricular crap. What a shame.

If it was someone's idea they should have had Tommy sign something, Also it's not really a drum solo there is so much pre-recorded techno beats that it makes the solo unappealing to me, The concept is good and visually exciting but it would be much better with a true drum solo.

Tommy Lee has definitely been cutting edge with live drumset acrobatics. Nobody has ever done that shit before!

He has also steered a boat with his cock and blew his load all over Pamela Anderson. Not too many guys can say that.
