TRIVIUM Frontman Performs Acoustic Cover Of OPETH's 'Harvest'; Video Available - Aug. 14, 2012
Guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM took part in a special one-night-only acoustic performance to benefit MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation. The event was held last night (Monday, August 13) between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at The MOSCOT Gallery & Music Space in New York City.

Fan-filmed video footage of Heafy's set — which included a rendition of the OPETH song "Harvest" — can be seen below.

MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation Inc.'s mission is to preserve sight and improve lives by providing free quality medical eyecare and eyewear to New York City's underserved populations.

In a recent interview with Sweden's Metalshrine, Heafy stated about TRIVIUM's plans for the next album, "We have nine songs pretty much completely recorded as pre-production, recorded on our bass player's laptop, and it actually sounds better than our first record. Paolo's [Gregoletto] really good at recording shit. It's all programmed drums, but programmed in a way that Paolo programmed the bass part, like the underlying drum tracks and Nick [Augusto, drums] would sit with him and rewrite them, but on the computer. We tracked guitars, we tracked bass and we're gonna track vocals soon, we tracked solos and I've got an album title, album arts, song names. We've got about 15 songs and everything's planned out. Video ideas, photo shoot ideas, everything. But we just can't reveal anything."

When asked about who will produce the next TRIVIUM CD, Heafy said, "We don't exactly know. We've got the plan, but we can't reveal. It's also kinda far to tell, but it will be different again. The new stuff sounds amazing and I know every bands says that, but yeah, it's really great. The fact that we're all working on it so much already, we know that it's something really special."

TRIVIUM, AS I LAY DYING, CALIBAN and UPON A BURNING BODY will join forces for a European tour this fall.

TRIVIUM's latest album, "In Waves", sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart — the highest U.S. chart entry of the band's career.

If you cover this song, you don't have to sing in Mikael's Swedish-English vocal phrases (iss me hoos de mahter).

Thusly, you are a douche.

P.S. Opeth used to rule (back then).

Wrong tuning - he's like a step or two lower. Song doesn't sound as good that way. Leave Opeth to Opeth!

I love Trivium's early stuff and always wondered if he was influenced by Opeth...you can definitely hear it in ember to inferno and a little in ascendancy. and yes Matt Heafy is kinda a douche, but he's written some pretty damn good metal tunes in his day.

Heafy is one the more down to earth guys in metal today. Hes matured a lot since the band got popular when he was 18.

An intimate performance in front of...a bunch of guys from what I can see. Seems about right.

wasn't a fan of his cover of Harvest (anyone who attempts to cover Opeth is just silly), but I really liked his rendition of Hurt, it sounded like a mix between the NIN and Johnny Cash versions. Overall I like Heafy I just feel like Trivium sometimes hold back (musically speaking) in favor of catchiness instead of just going all out like they did with the Shogun album. I'm sure the next album will have at least a handful of rocking tunes I just wish they'll put the Hot Topic-ness of some of the songs behind since they're not exactly teenagers anymore
