SANCTUARY Performs New Song At U.K.'s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR Festival; Video Available - Aug. 13, 2012
Reunited '80s cult metal outfit SANCTUARY — which features in its ranks NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard — performed a brand new song called "I Am Low" on Saturday, August 11 at at this year's edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

In an interview with Rock My Monkey TV, Dane stated about SANCTUARY's future plans, "We're gonna do a new record. We've got a lot of new songs written and we're working on a deal with Century Media; it's kind of an imminent thing. I've been with that label since 1995, so I know the people that work there, I trust them, and I have a very good working relationship with them, so it makes the most sense for me right now. And for the rest of the guys, too. So we'll see. Nothing's ever written in stone, but it looks like that's what's gonna happen."

Regarding how SANCTUARY's reformation came about, Dane said, "[SANCTUARY guitarist Lenny Rutledge and I] always talked to each other, but never really been friends again. And when the whole thing came about, that we were actually friends again, that's when we started talking more about doing it. And it definitely wasn't because NEVERMORE was imploding... which it was, at that point . . . We all just started talking with each other again. That was kind of the groundwork for it. And then we started saying, 'Well, gosh, let's make music again.' And my god! Lenny is writing some stuff that is so friggin great! Obviously, he's been bottling this up for years, because he really hasn't been doing anything... Well, he's had bands here and there. But he's really writing some great stuff that's really inspiring me, and making me fall in love with music again, with the creative process... everything that revolves around that. Really inspiring me to write really evil lyrics."

Regarding the sound of SANCTUARY's upcoming studio album, tentatively titled "The Year The Sun Died", Dane said, "This record is not going to sound like the other two. It might sound very similar to the second one ('Into The Mirror Black'). It's definitely not going to sound like the first one, because we're all a little bit older and I can't come up with a c-clamp for a scrotum and a helium tank . . . It's not going to sound like the old ones... it's 2011. It's still gonna be that good, I think, and there's gonna be high-pitched screaming. I'm making sure of that. With NEVERMORE, high-pitched screaming was never really called for. You know, with SANCTUARY... of course it is."

SANCTUARY last year tapped Brad Hull (FORCED ENTRY) to play second guitar for the band.

Hull and Shannon Sharp, one of the moderators at Metalguitarist.org, were the top picks for the SANCTUARY second-guitarist position. Brad, having previously toured with SANCTUARY, was given the opportunity to play the dates in Atlanta (ProgPower USA XII festival) and Greece.

Hull has spent the last few years playing the role of "James Hetfield" in the METALLICA tribute band BLISTERED EARTH, which plays "classic songs ranging from 1983's 'Kill 'Em All' to 1991's self-titled 'Metallica'."

SANCTUARY's current touring lineup:

Warrel Dane - Vocals
Lenny Rutledge - Guitar
Brad Hull - Guitars
Jim Sheppard - Bass
Dave Budbill – Drums

new track sounds awful. unoriginal, boring, sounds like my grade 8 offerings. and the band is out of tune and off on their clean/distorted channel switching. totally unprofessional. work the bugs out in the jam space and bring only your A-game to the shows, fellas.

Bring out the new album already! I Hope there are better songs on the album than "I am Low" sounds like a Queensryche leftover song. bring out some "Future Tense" kind of songs.

Dipshit, but it's not FagRyche. It's fucking Sanctuary And it's fuicking awesome. Warrel's vocals sound great in the new song. Awesome breakdown/verse/chorus'. What, you want them to re-record Future Tense and change it around a tad?! It's 25 years later. Wait till you hear the album, you're gonna shit yourself.

Hey fan boy! The new song is boring like some Queensryche leftover. I want the style of the Sanctuary I love not some boring song that only fan boys can like. I?ve been looking forward to the new album but that song put me off.

the new song is better than I expected after reading all of the comments, but...
on the older songs Warrell is really struggling. He sounds like a shadow of his former self. I know he's not 25 anymore, but he's really struggling to sing these songs. Perhaps we should just be grateful that they're not tuning the songs lower than the originals.
I hope he can get his voice back.

......I have a feeling that the Sanctuary I saw at Bonnies Roxx in NJ is no more.

New Sanctuary is gong to sound like Nevermore with more power chords and less insane shred.

I want to hear a higher vocal Warrell, he can't do it anymore.

sniff sniff.

Very disappointed in the moronic, dipshit, rude comments on here. Maybe 1 or 2 actual fans. Because ya just can't be when you disrespect them like that. Warrel is godamn 51 years old, one of the most dedicated persons in Metal, and sounds absolutely great in the videos ( yes the unprofessional fan videos, not a produced mixed and mastered studio album). The new song is dark evil and fuckin' awesome. His voice is unforgettable as usual. Not 20 year old/Sanctuary Warrel obviously, but unforgettable anywhay. He hasn't used high notes in years. A few on Dead Heart, A handful for Dreaming (greatest godamn album ever). You people act like Warrel just all of a sudden lost his voice or something. Your out of yer hotdamn minds. Watch those videos again and realize how good they really are, and how good they really sound. Especially Battle Angels. Voice is fucking incredible. evil. Go Sanctuary for a job well done since you've reunited. I was living in AZ when Jim told me about the reunion. So pumped, can't wait for new album. On the road as I was moving back East i fucking missed the show in nyc. super bummed. See ya on the Barge

Dont use age as a scapegoat. As a singer I know you don't just "lose" your ability to do certain things.

If Warrell doesn't hit high notes on this album then it might possibly suck. That what Sancutary is. It's like if the almighty King Diamond did an album with no trademark high falsetto. It HAS to be done.

As a LONG time fan, I am looking forward to this cd.

Age is definately a factor. Yeah Sanctuary's trademark was the insanely high notes, and Warrel's dedicated to bringing them back for the new album, voice lessons taken the last couple years. King is my fucking hero, I long for the day I meet him. Nevermore, like King Diamond, haven't really "needed" the high vocals for years. Whatever fit the music is what they sang. King cut back after The Eye. But both bands put in the high notes/background octave screams when needed. Ah hell, you know whats up. There's some great footage of a recent show in Sweden and King sounds absolutely incredible, since the bastard quit smoking. Another album and tour I can't fa-riggin' wait for.

They also played another new song called "The World Is Wired", look for that on YT - it has some classic riffing and sounds pretty aggressive. They haven't played too many reunion shows and I'm sure they will tighten up as they gel together more. The studio recording should be phenomenal - I hope they start on it soon for an early 2013 release.
