BLUE ÖYSTER CULT: 'The Columbia Albums Collection' Due In October - Aug. 13, 2012
Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Blue Öyster Cult" — unleashed in 1972, the eponymous debut album from America's heaviest psychedelic metal band presaged punk, thrash and hardcore — with the release of "Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection", a monumental career-spanning BLUE ÖYSTER CULT library comprised of 16 CDs (the full official canon plus two discs of rarities) and the mythic "Some Other Enchanted Evening" DVD (a blistering concert video from 1978). The highly-collectible boxed set will be available Tuesday, October 30.

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT (led by founding members Eric Bloom and Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser) will perform an historic New York City/Times Square show — featuring special guests and other surprises — at the Best Buy Theater (44th & Broadway, Manhattan) on Sunday, October 28 (doors at 7 p.m.). Tickets go on sale, Friday, August 17. Reserved seating is available for the show.

A limited number (100) of individual deluxe VIP packages for the Times Square Show will also be offered. Designed to provide the ultimate BLUE ÖYSTER CULT experience, each deluxe VIP package includes "Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection" (in advance of street date!) in addition to a guaranteed seat in the first five rows of the Best Buy Theater for the BLUE ÖYSTER CULT Times Square concert; a pre-show meet-and-greet with the band; an autographed limited edition BLUE ÖYSTER CULT event poster and an exclusive commemorative laminate.

"Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection" brings together the group's 14 official Columbia Records albums — including newly-mastered editions of "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees", "Fire Of Unknown Origin", "The Revolution By Night", "Mirrors", "Cultosaurus Erectus", "Extraterrestrial Live", "Club Ninja" and "Imaginos" — alongside two newly-curated bonus discs: "Rarities" and "Radios Appear: The Best Of The Broadcasts" (a special collection of classic live performances).

In addition, the "Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection" box set comes with a special download code good for four live concert broadcasts as well as as a forty-page booklet chock-full of photos and liner notes from celebrated music writer and guitarist Lenny Kaye.

"Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection" includes:

01. Blue Öyster Cult (1972 - studio - with 2001 CD bonus tracks)
02. Tyranny And Mutation (1973 - studio - with 2001 CD bonus tracks)

17. Radios Appear: The Best of the Broadcasts

Originally formed in Long Island as SOFT WHITE UNDERBELLY in 1967, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT combined adventurous lyrical themes with an aggressive instrumental sound. With passion and intelligence on display in equal measure, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT became the thinking fan's rock band and a sign of life in a sea of dull, anemic soft-pop. Anthems like "Godzilla", "Harvester Of Eyes" and "Don't Fear The Reaper" stretched the boundaries of rock topics while lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser became a hero to legions of budding axe-wielders. The band's mystique extended to their album artwork, resulting in some of the most distinctive and iconic LP covers of the rock era. "Blue Öyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection" gathers the essential pieces of the BLUE ÖYSTER CULT story into one mind-boggling totality.

Maybe if you would actually check out more than their radio rock singles, you would see this band has alot of good material.

...news of the year.

Can't wait.

Buck rules.

Maybe this will finally wake up the young guys who are still trying to work out why bands like Metallica respect them!

The most underrated band ever! I spent many hours listening to my brother's records - then went out and bought my own! My favorite: On Your Feet or On Your Knees! Live - I've probably blown through 7 or 8 of these. I'm buying the boxed set. Hope they do a vinyl version too!

Man, what a bunch of pricks. I have had two occasions of meeting them and they were the biggest bunch of prima donna assholes that you could ever imagine.

The "Some Other Enchanted Evening" DVD was never intended for release. It has a few bugs but has some real kick ass stuff too. Play loud.

Cool BOC fact:
Check out Fire of Unknown Origin, most of it follows along with the first Heavy Metal movie storyline, because it was going to be the soundtrack to the whole thing, but was scrapped in favor of the multiple artist approach.
Also check out the Stoned Age, about a couple of BOC fans running around scoping chicks, and remembering a BOC concert. Special surprise after the credits!

Not to mention the references in the Simpsons, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Steven King novels, the famous SNL cowbell skit, collaboration with Michael Moorcock and Eric Van Lustbader, the first band to use chains in a drum solo, pioneering massive lasers in the 70s and you have an intro to the impact of this great band.

Agents of Fortune and Fire of Unknown Origin are both in my Top 50. Saw them on the Black n Blue tour back in 81. Very underrated band. Long live BOC!

Some Enchanted Evening DVD was released with the cd back in 2007 and is available at Amazon.

I'd rather have them sold separately. I only need On Your Feet Or On Your Knees, Mirrors, Cultosaurus Erectus and Extraterrestrial Live and have been waiting for them to be remastered. It's like the Judas Priest box set. I only need Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings and I've already bought the cassette/album/cd and remastered cd and ain't paying for them all again.

If the 2012 remastered cds aren't released separately at some point, I'll be convinced that record studios are out of touch with the market place because they'll definitely be illegally downloaded.

I did have a 12' (is that 12 inch? feet?) single of Fire of Unkown Orgin with Dr. Music and Flaming Telepaths as the B-sides. And what about the Bad Channels soundtrack that they did - there were 2 non-lp cuts - and good ones at that! Incidentally those same 2 songs were on a 3 disc various artists box set called Rock Giants. Maybe it's an unofficial recording or not authorized or whatever.

scratched on the wall...

At least most of the comments for this story are something other than the usual whining, bitching and moaning I see on every other "story" Bmouth puts up, but not a single bit of props given for "Tyrany and Mutation" Some of BOC's greates stuff on that LP and unheard of by the masses.

I love these guys but please release a new album! And get the old band back together!

I am sad to say the last time I saw them, a few months ago, they looked like they were going to fall asleep on stage.

So $163 (£100) on Amazon.com, but only £55 on Amazon.co.uk. I know what the missus is buying (now : has bought) me for Christmas this year.

Thank God I live in the UK!!!!!
