SEPULTURA Guitarist Is Open To Covering JUSTIN BIEBER… For A Million Pounds - Aug. 11, 2012
Virtual Festivals conducted an interview with guitarist Andreas Kisser of Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA at this year's edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival, which is being held August 9-12 at Catton Park, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked if SEPULTURA would consider covering a Justin Bieber song if they were offered a million pounds, Andreas replied without hesitation, "Yes. [laughs] We're not scared. We're not scared of music — indepdently of the style or the quality. SEPULTURA did cover songs from, of course, the metal bands like [BLACK] SABBATH and everything else, and MOTÖRHEAD, and hardcore bands like DISCHARGE and DEAD KENNEDYS and stuff. We did Bob Marley, we did U2, we did JANE'S ADDICTION… We did so many different stuff that it would be a great challenge for us, actually."

He added, "I cannot really imagine [SEPULTURA doing a cover version of a song like Justin Bieber's 'Baby'] because I don't really know his music. [laughs] I would have to do [some] research and see where we can find something. But, yeah, I think that's the beauty of music itself. I think the best covers are the not, let's say, 'expectable' covers. I mean, SEPULTURA doing SABBATH is very expectable, but if you do something very different and you come up with something new, I think that's why a cover needs to be done."

SEPULTURA played its first show with new drummer Eloy Casagrande (GLÓRIA, ANDRÉ MATOS) on November 25, 2011 in Lichtenfels, Germany.

Casagrande joined SEPULTURA as the replacement for Jean Dolabella, who left the band because he could no longer handle being away from home for long periods of time.

Eloy is a 21-year-old drum prodigy from São Paulo, Brazil who won the Modern Drummer "Undiscovered Drummer" contest as a teenager in 2006.

Dolabella left SEPULTURA after a five-year run of relentless touring and two studio albums. He joined SEPULTURA in 2006 following the departure of the band's original drummer, Igor Cavalera.

SEPULTURA is touring in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, "Kairos", which hit stores in July 2011.

Thanks for prefixing "Sabbath" with "[Black]", I wouldn't have know who he was referring to otherwise.

That Jean Dollabella dude was one kick-ass drummer though. See that footage from Wacken in 2011. He rips.

They should do it and dedicate the song to Max. The butthurt reaction to it would be the most interesting thing to happen with Sepultura since Chaos A.D.

....are a perfect example of "idiotic extremism".
No, Sepultura don't sound "like gangsta rap" and no, their material hasn't been "way better" than Max's. Max is a better songwriter than Andreas. But Dante, A-Lex and Kairos are good albums, Eloy Casagrande is an amazing drummer, Derrick has been in the band longer than Max and live they absolutely deliver.
I still like them just as I like Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. I can't wait to hear Max's side-project involving Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan.
NAILBOMB are still untouched though.

Dolabella was great, but Casagrande kills him dead. He kills Igor dead too.

I have to agree Casagrande fucking owns. Period.

Any reference to Justin blow me has no place on BM. Lets NOT give him any more press than he already has.

Last Sepultura show I saw was no joke that shit kicked ass like nothing else.

Would you cover this dumb-ass kid's song?
"Oh yeah, we would do it. We're not scared of music. Independent of the style and quality. I cannot imagine cause I don't really know his music...."

Translation: No matter how scary it is to hear this annoying kid's shitty racket, we'll face any challenge.

Igor is a true innovator, nobody did the tribal thrash drumming before him. He he his own unique sound which is hard to pull off as a drummer. Casagrande may be technical but so are a million kids in their basements. I'll take Igor over Casagrande any day.

You can both take and have Igor any day be my, coz that fuckhead has quit music and is working as a retarded dj or something. You might even get some money out of the government for it, taking care of a mindless monkey.

I'm not saying he wasn't great back in the days, I'm just saying maybe it would be just as good leaving him to Ted Nugent these days.

Igor heard something called the Brazilian marching band.

Kinda tipped him off on how to sound.

Then again, white man don't know about that.

Its the same reason Dave Lombard (Cuban American) has such a unique sound.

...not dissing him at all, but Casagrande is absolutely impressive. He is not just technical, his energy is unbelievable even for his age. Go see him play, then we'll discuss about it.
