RONNIE JAMES DIO's 'Childhood Home' For Sale On eBay - Aug. 9, 2012
A house in Cortland, New York that is purported to be the childhood home of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) is being auctioned on eBay, with the minimum starting bid (the seller's chosen starting price) of $90,000.

Writes the seller: "This is the house [Ronnie] grew up in, wrote songs in, had parties in, and played in!

"We bought the house from Ronnie about 3.5 years ago and have enjoyed living there but it is too small for our growing family. I am listing it on eBay in the hopes that a TRUE Dio fan can get this house and enjoy owning a piece or heavy metal history.

"The house has a detached garage (where Dio used to play with his friends and band mates). A fenced-in backyard great for BBQs and a garden behind the garage (where Ronnie told me himself he buried a trunk that we never got around to digging up). I have found an old mic of his and what looks like some spelling test that were pushed into a knot hole in the floor.

"I have heard many stories from people all over town about going over and listening to Ronnie playing in the garage or going over later in life and partying in the house. If these walls could talk!

"We have had people come visit the house getting their picture taken out front or by the street sign of Dio Way.

"The roof on the house and the garage need work. But we have replaced the heating system and the hot water heater last year. We also added 10 more inches of insulation in the attic."

The auction ends on August 31.

Ronnie James Dio, real name Ronald James Padavona, was born in New Hampshire on July 10, 1942.

He moved to Cortland, New York at a young age, where he began playing with local acts. A street in Cortland, Dio Way, was named after him in 1988.

It's just been sold. Ian Gillan just bought it.

Actually, it was Sharon who bought it. She just now re-listed the house on eBay for twice the amount she paid.

I found Sharon's listing. She removed Ronnie's name and now calls it "house formerly owned by Black Sabbath singer" and has the Ozzy logo on the auction.

Sharon would NEVER acknowledge Dio, even indirectly, as a Black Sabbath singer. Too harmful to the brand.

Kind of ironic now though, since Sharon was the one that recommended Ronnie to Tony Iommi.

I'm surprised Ronnie still owned that house. He lived in California. It must have been many years since he actually lived there and even more many years since he actually played any music there. Still cool though, I can imagine a Dio fan buying it.

For the better part of $100,000.00 they didn't put a single shot of the inside, & if I was gonna bid on it or if I was selling it, that's a pretty important thing to include in the listing.

That's stupid to install a hot water heater...

YOU DON'T NEED TO HEAT HOT WATER!

Now a water heater, on the other hand...

Dio lived in a mansion in LA for years - why would he still own an old house like that? I'm calling shenenigans.

It was his childhood home and perhaps he had fond memories in it. Not everyone cares about the big house on the hill and if I had enough cash, I would by my childhood home, use it for a week out of the year and let family thats still in the area use it the rest of the year.

Did that explain your question?

RIP RJD. I'm on the last night of a two week jaunt down the Pacific coast with my wife and kids. Stopped at Forest Lawn Cemetery in LA to pay my respects to RJD. The folks at Forest Lawn would not tell me where he was buried as that is their policy for any celebrity. Lucky I was able to Google it on my phone. Beautiful spot. He is resting not too far from Liberace.

I did talk to Ronnie on his birthday and he told me they put in the back of the garage where his folks had a garden. It is not a lie i promise. Every year after we are done with the garden we talked about looking for it but never got the time ( With 2 kids it is not always easy to find time). I am offering this house on EBay because i would love it if someone who Really loved Dio and his music could enjoy it. I am also give a % of the profit to Cancer research because From what i understand Ronnie was a very giving and helpful person and i believe he would want it that way. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
