METALLICA: Official Footage From Third Mexico City Concert - Aug. 8, 2012
Official Metallica.com footage of METALLICA's pre-show tuning-room jam and "Cyanide" performance on August 1 at the third concert of the band's eight-date run at Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace) in Mexico City can be seen below.

METALLICA's setlist for August 1 concert:

01. Creeping Death
02. For Whom the Bell Tolls
03. Fuel
04. Ride The Lightning
05. One
06. Cyanide
07. The Memory Remains
08. Of Wolf & Man
09. Sad But True
10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
11. ...And Justice For All
12. Fade To Black
13. Master Of Puppets
14. Battery
15. Nothing Else Matters
16. Enter Sandman

Encore:

17. Last Caress
18. Seek & Destroy

Two members of METALLICA's road crew caught fire during each of the first three Mexico concerts, as the two stagehands were seen struggling with a malfunctioning pyro launcher during "Enter Sandman" when both were suddenly engulfed in flame. As frontman James Hetfield called for the band to stop playing, other crew members doused the men with fire extinguishers and took them off the stage in stretchers, with the band resuming its show a few minutes later.

A spokesperson for the promoter said the stunt was "all part of the show," and in fact METALLICA has staged this type of "accident" before during its 1997 tour, on which the show ended with the stage seemingly collapsing around the band as one crew member caught fire and another dangled upside down from the fallen lighting rig. The effect was caught on the band's "Cunning Stunts" DVD.

The show on July 28 marked the debut of a new 140-foot-by-50-foot stage that features "colossal components and striking visual elements spanning METALLICA's entire 30-year career," meaning that the "accident" stunt could be back for an encore.

At a press conference before the show, frontman James Hetfield said that the band was focused on "staying alive" while performing alongside the "dangerous elements" of the new production, with bassist Robert Trujillo adding, "Like James said, it's very dangerous — we've got stuff flying every which way."

A post in the "Tour Journal" section of METALLICA's official web site related that "shit really hit the fan (during 'Enter Sandman' with) loud bangs, random fireworks, falling towers, falling spot light guy, falling scaffolding, guy was caught on fire . . . then a complete blackout."

Following its Mexico City stand, METALLICA next plays the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco and then two shows in late August in Vancouver, which will be filmed for the band's upcoming 3D movie.

I get your point, but in recent years, they've beenn playing that quite a fair bit. I'm not complaining mind, it's one of my fav Metallica songs, from my favourite Metallica album, but a rarer song would be something like Frayed Ends or Eye of the Beholder...

And Justice for All is fine, Im just talking about the setlist in general and the order of the songs. They have been using this setlist for some time now is all.

They're doing that "in the round" stage set again. Completely sucks.

That stage set is quite innovative. It sucks to be stuck in the back of a venue only seeing things front. Of course only a band like Metallica can afford this but still, it's quite cool. Now if they could add a little taste and class to it. It looks awful!

Sure; quite innovative, state of the art, etc. But consider the fact that Metallica never needed all this high tech stage crap when they were truly great many, many years ago. They just banged their heads and rocked out hard and played their hearts out. Pure human energy. Now it's all about lasers, pryrotechnics and computer screens with James and Kirk wandering around the stage and Lars offering his usual "I don't give a shit" performance. Weak entertainment.

Metallica's setlists are starting to become stale.

They've been so adventurous these past few years...which they dug a little deeper and didn't ignore Load and Reload so much.

There truly are some great deep albums cuts on both.

besides the staple of Seek & Destroy, no other cuts from kill em all?!?!?!?!?

take your pick of replacing at least 1 of the three; wolf, nothing, or sad to any tracks from Kill em all.

Wishful thinking tho.

Yeah, and Seek & Destroy is boring now, imo. I'd take Phantom Lord, Metal Militia, Whiplash, etc !!!

Wolf can stay, but sad and sandman have been over played, especially sandman.

And Nothing Else Matters IS a good song, but I often forget how good it is because Metallica seem to HAVE to play it all the time... now it's boring.

I mean, I like most Metallica songs (bar Sandman and a few random crap songs from Reload), but this setlist is generic Metallica. Sure, 'Justice' being in the setlist is GREAT! But how about some rarer stuff, like 'Frayed Ends'... and when we have Black Album material, how about 'Struggle Within', 'My Friend of Misery'... Lars and co. claim that the first half of Black album is betterr hence when playing it in full, doing it in reverse, but I couldn't agree any less than I do. Aside from Unforgiven and Whether I May Roam, I think it's the latter half that is more interesting. I'd like to hear those songs.
I'd also love to see a setlist where Sandman has been dispatched. And I think Seek & Destroy has had its day. Close with Metal Militia or Whiplash. Don't start with Creeping Death either, the song is really epic, it suits being placed near the end, where they put rather, un-epic, boring Sandman.

Also, I just realised, Cyanide is the only DM song. It's my least favourite song from the album D: Would take literally anything else over that. They should throw in a BM song too.

I complain too much. I'm sure the show was great.

Suctallica Sux !
No more needs to be said. Losers go to there concerts to pretend there listening to music and fraternity tools who play Nothing Else Matter at their weddings ! Very poor in taste as I do say indeed if I can be quite frank in leveraging

Every band has about 4 or 5 staple songs that they must play.

Nothing Else Matters, Sad, But True and Seek and Destroy are not on that list.

At this point, Seek and Destroy is my cue to beat traffic.

They way I look at it, Metallica play what they want and they choose what they want, but I must admit for fans, real fans, the setlist is getting a bit tired. So how about his for a setlist :

No remorse
Four horsemen
Ride the lightning
For whom the bell tolls
Battery
Master of puppets
The shortest straw
One
Don't tread on me
The struggle within
Enter sandman
King nothing
Mama said
Fixxxer
Purify
Sweet amber
All nightmare long
My apocalypse

Encore :

Whiplash
Damage inc

Sure Lars would have a heart attack, but... still !!!

They can sound really good when they play the post-90s stuff. They should stick to it, the 80s stuff just doesn't suit them at all anymore, there's not enough aggro in the playing and singing.

You will hear it next summer when Metallica plays the entire ...And Justice for All album at Orion 2013. It's definitely a selling point for their next festival just as many of us went to this year's festival to hear ride the lightning in it's entirety.
