New QUEENSRŸCHE Material 'Rocks,' Says GEOFF TATE's Replacement - Aug. 7, 2012
The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup — featuring singer Todd La Torre as the replacement for Geoff Tate — is currently writing material for its new album, tentatively due sometime in 2013. La Torre writes on his Facebook page. "Listening to new QUEENSRŸCHE material with vocals I recorded today. Oh... my... Gawd. It ROCKS!"

QUEENSRŸCHE members Michael Wilton (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass), Scott Rockenfield (drums) and Parker Lundgren (guitar) announced on June 20 that they were parting ways with Geoff Tate and recruiting La Torre of CRIMSON GLORY as his replacement. The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup previously played two shows in their home city of Seattle under the name RISING WEST.

Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield defeated Tate's motion for a preliminary injunction on July 13 that would have kept them from touring and operating under the band name,

Tate and his wife, Susan, QUEENSRŸCHE's former manager, filed a lawsuit against Geoff's ex-bandmates on June 22 in King County Superior Court over whether he should be awarded the QUEENSRŸCHE name after being dismissed from the group in June. Their complaint states Rockenfield, Wilton and Jackson wrongfully fired the singer and are tarnishing the group's brand by attempting to move forward without him.

If the case goes to trial, the date is set for November 18, 2013.

In the meantime, Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield, along with Lundgren and La Torre have launched a new web site at QueensrycheOfficial.com.

The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup made its official live debut as the headliner of the last day of this year's Halfway Jam, which took place July 26-28 in Royalton, Minnesota.

Lundgren was briefly married to Geoff's stepdaughter Miranda; they have since divorced.

The only thing that surprises me is they kept Parker in the band after firing Geoff. The only reason he's in the band is because he was his daughters boyfriend and the Tate's hired him without even telling the band. He must be on good terms with the band I guess. If so, good for him!

I wondered why they kept him around too. Here is how I imagine that whole scenario going down:

[Wilton, Jackson, & Rockenfield call Parker into the Queensryche meeting room to fire him.]

Wilton: "Parker, we just fired Geoff, and since you were originally brought into the band by Geoff, we feel it's time to let you go too. Sorry Bro."

Parker: "Wow, that sucks, but I understand where you guys are coming from. Is there any way I could convince you guys to let me stay in the band?"

Rockenfield: "I don't think so, Parker. We're pretty set on this decision."

Parker: "I really feel like I have a lot to offer Queensryche in the future."

Jackson: "Ok, we'll hear you out. Tell us what you think you bring to the table in Queensryche."

Parker: "Well, I did have sex with Geoff Tate's daughter."

[There is silence for a moment. The three members of the band turn and look at each other for a moment. Each coming to the same conclusion, they turn back to Parker]

Wilton: "I like it!"

Rockenfield: "I'm cool with that!"

Jackson: "I think you're just the right man for the job!"

La Torre: "That is awesome!"

Wilton/Rockenfield/Jackson/Parker: "Shut the fuck up, Todd."

The new singer is talking himself up and hyping up the new music......never would have seen that coming!

Maybe when the album sells about 5,000 copies they'll realize the name is useless.

Well, it's not useless when the nostalgic soccer moms will show up at the shows to see Silent Lucidity based on the name Queensryche. Tons of people are oblivious to who is in a band at any given time. The name sells tickets.

This band has made complete and utter fools of themselves. Todd LaTorre wasn't even a singer until two years ago. You joined up with four guys who wanted to do something different...yet still use the same name. Some aren't even original members.

Just like Accept, Great White and LA Guns there will be no radio airplay, no big concert halls and no major record sales. You may be lucky enough to sell a few thousand albums, might play a few moderately sized night clubs - but the vast majority won't be paying any attention to this band anymore. It happened with the others and it will happen again.

Queensryche does not exist anymore. Put it to rest and go away.

You're an idiot. This band still has a following of people who, if given an album in the vein of Empire or Mindcrime would 1. buy the album, and 2. definitely pay for concert tickets. Tate's horrendous musical decisions and direction is what crippled this band for the last 17 years. Getting back to what they do best will definitely help them to see a surge in album sales and concert attendance.

I love it when an average douche thinks they're the arbiter of whether a band exists or not. I think it's up to the band to decide that IMO, and it's up to Queensryche to decide if they are Queensryche.

They'll be stuck playing festivals at 3:00 in the afternoon when its still light out . The only reason they got the headline gig at halfway jam is because nobody else wanted to play for the 100 people that showed up in the middle of nowhere . ( I'm from mpls. )

Once the casual fan comes to the club shows and see's that Tate with his charisma and stage presence isnt the singer and its some troll looking, copycat dude , they wont show up for the next tour.
Its the same thing that happened to Journey . Now they're stuck playing with Reo and Styx every tour.

Looking forward to seeing Tate in Sept. here.

For all you Tate lovers, here's a great story about your savior. I'm in central Ohio. On the Hear in the now Frontier tour, they played Polaris Amphitheater which holds about 10,000 fans. Tate loses his voice 2 songs into the show. He shakes his head and then walks off stage. The whole band eventually follows him off. After a few minutes, DeGarmo comes out and announces the show is over. Tate evidently lost his voice a few days before too. Tate comes back out and promises to come back and make it up to the fans. They come back 2 years later on the Q2k tour and DeGarmo has already left the band, and now they are playing a 2000 seat venue in the Ohio State campus area called the Newport. The only "old school" songs in the set list were Walk in Shadows and Revolution Calling. No Take Hold of the flame, nothing else off Mindcrime or Empire. This is why Tate had to go. Not because of those particular shows but because that was his mindset as a whole. The fans became fans because of killer songs, of which were rarely played live.

Regardless of who wins the name, I will support the remaining members regardless of what they end up calling themselves.

I'm shocked some sort of official statement hasn't come from the DeGarmo camp yet. Maybe with Tate gone, DeGarmo may consider re-joining the band.

Dude you need to stop talking crap. Tate mix's up and sings alot of old songs every tour . Even the cabaret show I saw in Wi they played alot of songs they hadent played in awhile . Always stuff off of empire, rage, warning , om1 and either qotr or lwb off of ep.
In 05/06 tour w/ Priest they were doing mostly Rage for Order and The Warning songs even doing Nightrider off the 1st ep .
I remember the " live Evolution " tour 10 years ago where they played blocks songs off of a number of different releases and Tate sounded great ! ( you can verify that w/ the live dvd)
Although they play stuff off of their most recent releases too , that you may not like , they always mixed it up every tour .

You can see the problem they are going to have by looking at last weeks " halfway jam " is , alot of concert goers want to hear mostly songs off of Empire .
It seems from the setlist last week that this material is "too mellow" for the remaining band members .

Instead of cashing in on the name, when key members are gone with a clone singer , start a new band.

I think the new line is doing just fine. Todd hits the notes. Taint dont even try to anymore. Todd's voice is a plus. He also adds the little things that made the song. Geoff is still a great singer but he douched bagged out and ruined the band and its name with the direction he was pushing for. Many times this court crap gets dropped. Look at Dream Theater MP dropped it. Now DT are back to making great music. I cant wait for the new CD from QR

Let's see how long the Taint money lasts. They gotta drag this out until November 2013 if what we were told is true, when the final trial for the rights to "Queensryche" will be held. That's a lot of time paying people to post negative comments on websites, Taints.

What good is Geoff forcing himself to sing older material when he says he hates heavy metal, its fans & let's his wife talk him into doing a cabaret, bottles wine & records crap like on DTC? Id rather have a new singer who's heart is in the right place, gets along with the other guys in QR & has enthusiasm for a return to form for the band.

Do you think Todd, Michael and Eddie will save the name? I'm not defending Tate, he's a douche, but Todd ain't that good either. The only money q will ever get from me again is with the original 5. Just odd anyone would actually support this at all.

they don't realize the brand name means EVERYTHING. Only the hardcore fans and BM frequenters know the current lineup of the group. And most festival goers scan the ads to see the full bill they decide to purchase. THIS is what draws attendance.
Killer new material has very little incitement. Who do you think had greater concert attendance? Heaven and Hell with killer new material to promote, or Black Sabbath who hasn't penned a new tune since 1998? Or who do you think has more concertgoers at shows? Journey (with a replacement singer) or Steve Perry with his backing band? Or how about Styx (with their replacement singer) or a solo Dennis De Young? BUT, who had more more concert ticket sales at venues? Velvet Revolver or "Guns n Roses"? The name means everything.

Also, acts like Kiss, Bon Jovi, Rush, Metallica, and AC/DC are some of the few remaining rock bands that still have huge revenue from tours, PRECISELY because of the Brand nostalgia.
I ask you: What gets more fan reaction-Rock and Roll Train, or Hell's Bells? New material for older and established bands is just and excuse to go and tour (then play the standards-which is what the paying public EXPECTS to hear.) Who wants to hear half the set of new material, regardless of how "Killer" it is vs. songs you already have a vested emotional interest in? I would venture to guess very few.

Picture this: if any of the above mentioned groups went out on tour under a different name and regardless of weather they played new or old material, what kind of numbers do you think they would draw?

Something to think about next time you muse that the guys should "just move on and let the music do the talkin'"

IMO I hope they use some of TLT's solo material on the new CD. It's not stellar, but it's better than anything off the last 3 QR discs. It will reach a much larger audience than under his own banner. Guaranteed.

I also hope they release both a studio and live album before Nov 2013 to capitalize on the fact they can use the name and sell more units.

Funny, because Chickenfoot's debut album went Gold and like you say only people who pay attention would even know who's in the band. Meanwhile, Journey's latest album was a total dud in comparison....weird since everybody's heard of Journey.

People who are really fans of a band (not just who like a few of their songs) know the lineup and it matters to them. If these guys went out as Rising West and put out an incredible album, they wouldn't need the name Queensryche. They could even put a sticker on the CD wrapper and on promo stuff that says "formerly Queensryche" if they needed the extra push.
