JUDAS PRIEST Frontman Weighs In On Chick-Fil-A Gay-Marriage Controversy - Aug. 6, 2012
JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford has weighed in on the Chick-fil-A controversy, insisting that both the supporters and the critics of the chicken eatery's chief executive and his views on gay marriage are perfectly within their rights to make their opinions known.

When asked about his thoughts on gay marriage in a radio interview in late July, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy stated: "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage' and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Speaking to AOL's Noisecreep, the openly gay Halford was asked about his thoughts on the Chick-fil-A scandal that is all over the media right now.

"Before I get into this, I just want to say that I love America. I love the American Constitution and the First Amendment," Halford said. "I'm actually watching a PBS documentary that I got on DVD about the life of John Adams. If you really get into the heart and soul of this great country, it's all about the constitution and the First Amendment and freedom of speech."

He continued, "Everybody in this country has the right to say what they think and feel and what best represents them. The people at Chick-fil-A have the absolute right to say and do what they want. It doesn't matter that all of these people disagree with their opinion. The question was how would the people that agree with what that man said do to support the company and how would the ones against his anti-gay remarks protest.

"The supporters have been showing up in droves, to spend money at the restaurants and peacefully assemble. But there has obviously been so many people who have gone out and boycotted the company. I think it's great. That's our right here. What you're seeing here are the elements of the American Constitution in all of their glory. It's a wonderful thing to see happening and talk about and the fact that everyone is discussing the gay-rights issue is great."

Halford concluded: "I don't think that man thought too much about the business consequences of what he said, but I think he was standing for what he believes in. I don't agree with him at all, but God bless the man. It's as simple as that."

up until this, I had no clue what a Chick-Fil-A was. Still have never seen one. But after this all, I am well aware of what it is, so in my opinion they did this to have free publicity, and make tons of money in the meantime.

KFC should just start putting pickles on their sandwiches, and maybe some variation on fries to make them unique, and add mayo and honey predominantly to the condiment bar. BAM! Chick fil a won't be the biggest game in town... simple as that, lol.

But first and foremost, Rob Halford is spot on and his response was very classy.

Here's my breakdown...not that it matters in the least. If you're gay and want to get married...by all means, get married. God Bless. If you're straight and want to get married, by all means, get married! God bless. If you want a chik-Fil-A sandwich and you're hungry, by all means, get a sandwich...God Bless. The point...there is no point. Time to move on folks. :)

sorry Rob whatever boycott that was out there failed miserably as the supporters of free speech and the owner spoke loud and clear with their wallets. record breaking profits says it all. the man has made no secret of his beliefs was asked a question and answered it. you do not have to agree with it but is his company and he has a right to say what he believes without you and others trying to force your views on him or those who support him and traditional values. you do not have to go to the resturant if you want but I have the right to go and not be harrased by those who do not support his view. I do not need to a sight that offends me while eating and 2 people of the same sex making out is a disgusting sight to me.

So your point is that Rob is wrong to promote tolerance of differing opinions? I'm pretty sure all he said was I don't with agree with him, but its his opinion and I respect his right to hold it.
Also of note is your homophobia. Chick-fil-a never said he disagrees with homosexuality, rather the act of marriage between a same sex couple. Your statement shows your intolerance of other communities by being "disgusted" by same sex partners.
If your point was to not "throw sex" in your face, then I feel the same with regards to any couple, whatever their sexual orientation.

Everyone needs to just get over it,grow some thicker skin and move on, not over this stupid Chick-fill thing, but in general.

deregulate marriage and do away with licensing requirements etc. as it is in 15 (i think) states. let people enter into domestic agreements as they see fit for themselves. if your a true conservative as those in favor of less regulation claim to be, this is the solution. a constitutional ammendment in regards to this issue is a total absurdity ...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought people took issue with the fact that Chick-fil-A donates money to certain groups that are pretty vehemently against gays. Not so much what the owner said?

Or at least that's the aspect of it I disagree with. I couldn't care less what the owner believes, that's his deal. Just some of the groups his company donates to... pretty shitty.

As for the business aspect of it, it's always just plain dumb for any owner or CEO to make hotbed comments when you have a broad consumer base. They might have made record profits on their support day, but I'm sure some stores are getting hurt by those same comments. Probably in more liberal-type areas or what have you. And seeing as they're franchise owned, it's hurting those who have invested in your business model.

Basically if you own a company that isn't a strong niche market, it's probably best to not comment publicly on any hot issues like sexuality, religion, politics, etc.

Wasn't expecting a reasonable viewpoint from Rob on this, so kudos to him. Still a basic misconception is in there, the guy didn't make anti-gay remarks. The media and the gay lobby created that myth. He only said he supports traditional marriage, and all hell broke loose, as you would expect from these people. The people turning out to support Chick Fil-A are more supporting them against the backlash and threats of government punishment for his opinion, more then showing support for his view on marriage. We have a duty to stand behind anyone being threatened with these kind of Orwellian Stallinist thug tactics. The fucking thought police are here.

have more in common than you think. Imagine if it was in the 1980's at the height of the PMRC idiocy. What if Dan Cathy was donating millions to organizations where parents could send kids to camps to make them "ex metal"? Were those kids self esteem and self worth were assaulted daily in the name of the supposed greater good? How is that any different than a group like Exodus International (who recently admitted there approach is a failure btw)that Cathy contributes millions to?

That when she would go to church some preachers and christians would say 'If a white person marries a black you will go to hell. It's a sin ect.'(Something along those lines).
Now replace that with gay marriage and you have a modern day issue with different group of people.
Did marrying a black person ruin the fabrics of society? I don't think so.
How about the future generations? I don't think so, I feel completely normal, friends seem normal, no one really cares now days what ethnic race people date.
I don't really care what sex anyone marries, as long they're happy with that person and in love by all means get married and enjoy the rest of your life with them. :)

Why would anyone want to get married anyway.

For the male/female marriage, it is a document that ensures you will be taken to the cleaners when you divorce.

How about we just do away with marriage all together and everyone have civil unions. Then the people can have any ceremony they want and their religious or personal views would not infringe on the others. Problem solved.

btw, well said Rob.
