AS I LAY DYING Drummer Comments On RANDY BLYTHE Incarceration - Aug. 2, 2012
Drummer Jordan Mancino (pictured below) of San Diego metallers AS I LAY DYING is one of a number of musicians who have come out in support of LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, who is facing manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic.

Blythe, 41, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer allegedly either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel N. — a guitarist in a local metal band — and that person died almost a month later of bleeding in the brain.

Randy has been charged with causing "bodily harm of the fourth degree, resulting in the death of a fan" and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Speaking to Metal Insider, Mancino said, "Because I don't know all of the exact details on what happened or what went on, and what's really going on with the Czech and U.S. legal system trying to figure something out and get him out, it's one of those things where I don't really know how to comment on it. But what I do think is wrong and also needs to change is the focus. The focus should not be on him. I think the focus needs to be on security and venues because you have any sort of live show, especially metal which is a very intense style of music, you're going to have a band performing at its most intense level and you're going to have a crowd reacting in the most intense way. So you've got to figure out how those two can exist without harming each other, keeping everybody safe including security. I think the focus needs to be on venues, venues' security and how to allow this interaction to continue but figure out a way to keep everybody safe."

He added, "We've done a ton of shows where security has been perfect. They know what a circle pit is, they know what a wall of death is, or whatever else… So they're not like 'Oh, these kids, if someone's moshing I'm gonna choke them out and take them outside.' And we've experienced both. Security just didn't know, and they think it's just some violent act. And it's not, it's an expression. I think there needs to be a security and venue overhaul as far as crowd/band safety. That needs to be the focus, and I think it's wrong that Randy's the focus of that."

Asked about whether the incident has scared him from performing on stage, Jordan said, "No, I don't think it does. I guess I'm a little more conscious of it, but I'm not scared. I still go out there and try to bring it every night. It's just one of those things, like last night we played a venue [an off-date from Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem festival] and the back door was wide open with no security guard, and I'm just thinking, 'This is such a simple solution to what could be a huge problem.' Nothing happened, but you never know. You need to be safe. And it's little things like that where someone's like, 'Oh, I need to save a hundred bucks, get one less guy tonight.' Don't save the $100, just get it! Get the extra security guard, get the extra guy at the door, get the extra guy at the barricade, whatever it is. It's obviously not worth someone's life."

Best comment I have seen so far! The kid jumped the stage 3 times supposedly! He should have been kicked out of the show after time number 1. After the dime incident, no one who is not the band, affiliated with the band or invited onstage by the band should be allowed to be on the stage. Violators should immediately be removed from the venue. PERIOD!

Well I haven't log on this site in years but I've been watching this site since almost the beginning of it but anyways......I think the guys comment is awesome but my only question is......Is that "extra" guy going to be complete lughead ? I think security people need to take classes before they do any type of "security".

He's right. And probably one of the best responses to the situation.

I think Security guys however need a few lessons on how to deal with situations though. Half the time theyre running around with "tough guy" syndrome and just hurt people for no reason.

...of which AILD is one, I don't usually care for the bands' members personalities. AILD is different. 2 things are highly impressive in this comment: his reasonable, unbias, human, down to earth take on it and that he did not mention god even once because he knows there is time for that and this was not. Classy. If only all Xians were as cool and human as AILD!

When will a band come out and say anything other than 'I don't have the full facts, but I'm sure he's innocent.'?
